New Music: French Montana feat. City Girls ‘Wiggle It’

French Montana makes his play for song of the summer with his new single “Wiggle It” featuring City Girls.

The booty-popping banger, produced by Ben Billions and French, samples Nightcrawlers’ ’90s hit “Push the Feeling On.” The Coke Boy brings the bounce, while Yung Miami acts up on her twerk-ready verse.

“I feel like ‘Wiggle It’ is like ‘Pop That’ on steroids,” French told Zane Lowe on Beats 1. “I have a lot of respect for City Girls too. Free JT and definitely Yung Miami. Her just being pregnant and doing a video for me, I feel like that’s love, you know?”

A video for “Wiggle It” has been shot. French’s new album, the follow-up to 2017’s Jungle Rules, is finished and due in August.

Earlier this week, he dropped his Coke Wave 4 mixtape with Max B and kicked off “The Decent Exposure Tour” with Wiz Khalifa, which runs through August.

YNW Melly & Kanye West’s "Mixed Personalities" Goes Platinum

YNW Melly is currently incarcerated for his alleged involvement in a double murder, which ultimately served to put his rising career on hold. Yet Melly managed to earn himself a loyal following during his short tenure in the game, largely f the strength his debut album We All Shine.

Though he primarily handled the album himself, lead single “Mixed Personalities” found him sharing the spotlight with the legendary Kanye West. Off the bat, the single helped catapult Melly onto many-a-radar, establishing his position as one the most intriguing young songwriters the year. To this day, “Mixed Personalities” is sitting at 76 million YouTube views, a number that will likely continue to rise.

Now, it has been revealed that Melly has earned himself a platinum plaque for his efforts. As July 9th, the RIAA has certified “Mixed Personalities,” making it Melly’s second track to land the honor – the first was “Murder On My Mind,” which skyrocketed to notoriety upon his involvement in the aforementioned case. Clearly, Melly’s fame is only getting bigger, proving that not even a jail cell can stop his rise.

Have you been bumping “Murder On My Mind?” If so, do you think Melly’s We All Shine is a contender on any album the year lists?

David Ortiz Undergoes Third Surgery After Gunshot Complications: Report

Back in June, David Ortiz was shot during an assassination attempt gone wrong in the Dominican Republic. According to those allegedly involved in the shooting, Ortiz was not the target and that he was mistaken for the man sitting across from him. Ortiz was able to receive medical attention on the scene and was brought to the hospital for surgery. From there, the Boston Red Sox legend was flown out to Massachusettes where he received a second surgery as a precaution. Over the last few weeks, updates were released which suggested that Big Papi was well on his way to a full recovery. Things took a turn earlier this week though as Ortiz’s wife Tiffany released a statement saying he had to go through a third surgery.

The third surgery had to be performed due to complications resulting from the gunshot wound. Ortiz’s wife didn’t give specific details in regards to the complications although she did note that he is “recovering well and in good spirits.”

Ortiz’s family also made sure to thank everyone for their well wishes as well as the work the medical staff who have been taking care the former ball player.

“We continue to be incredibly appreciative the kindness and compassion shown to David and to our entire family during this difficult time,” Ortiz’s wife said.

DeMarcus Cousins Updates Lakers Fans On His Quad Injury

Just a few years ago, DeMarcus Cousins was one those players that every team would want on their squad. Unfortunately, injuries caught up to Cousins and he was forced to sign a short term deal with the Golden State Warriors last season. A quad injury in the playfs left Boogie with even more questions surrounding him and when free agency first started, he was struggling to find a team to sign to. The Los Angeles Lakers eventually inked a 1-year, $3.5 million deal with Cousins which is a low risk, high reward proposition.

Despite being able to play in the NBA Finals, there are still quite a few questions as to whether or not he can remain healthy for next season. In a recent interview with Matthew Moreno  Lakers Nation, Cousins explained that he’s feeling fine and that he’s not interested in any load management.

“My quad is 100% healed,” Cousins said. “My goal is to play 82 games this season.”

If Cousins can stay healthy and get back to his form from just a few seasons ago, there is a good chance the Lakers can be one the strongest fensive teams we have seen in a while. In the clip below, Cousins appears to have lost some weight, which could do wonders for his conditioning. With Cousins going back to his old number, perhaps we’ll see him become the sought after player he used to be.

Kevin Gates Under Investigation For C-Murder Prison Visit: Report

Ever since his release from prison last year, Kevin Gates has maintained a pretty low persona in the public. Even with social media, he isn’t as active as he once was before he was sentenced. Yesterday, the rapper shared photos himself visiting his uncle Lee Lucas and incarcerated rapper and Master P‘s brother, C-Murder, at Elayn Hunt Correctional Center in Louisiana. The pictures were relatively innocuous as the rapper posed for photos with the incarcerated at a table and on a picnic bench. However, the Louisiana Department Corrections has an issue with one aspect the photos: the cash.

Kevin Gates is now under investigation for flashing a handful hundred dollar bills in a photo with Lee Lucas and C-Murder. Ken Pastorick, spokesperson for the Louisiana Department Corrections, told The Advocate that visitors are prohibited from bringing in any amount cash exceeding $300 into the prison. “As indicated in the photograph, it appears Mr. Gates had a large sum cash, which is unacceptable, and a violation,” Ken Pastorick said. “It is against Elayn Hunt Correctional Center policy to bring case exceeding $300 into the prison, and any amount above that is considered contraband.”

Gates is on a visitation list for Lee Lucas who’s been behind bars for two decades. Pastorick said that because the rapper signed f on the documentation, he acknowledged that he understood the rules for visitors. Although Gates is under investigation for the photos, the repercussions he faces if he’s found in the wrong isn’t clear.

Kawhi Leonard Signs 3-Year Max Contract With Player Option: Report

Kawhi Leonard won’t be signing a four-year, $142 million max contract with the Los Angeles Clippers as originally reported

The Board Man will still be playing for the Clippers and he’ll still be getting paid, but multiple reports revealed today that Leonard’s deal is actually for three years, $103 million with a player option in the third year. The deal will give Leonard, 27, the opportunity to test free agency in the Summer 2021, which lines up with Paul George’s current contract.

Rumors suggested that Leonard was on the cusp signing with the Los Angeles Lakers, but The Undefeated’s Marc J. Spears recently revealed there was “no way” Kawhi wanted to team up with LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

Spears writes, “A source told The Undefeated early last week that there was ‘no way’ Leonard was going to sign as a free agent with LeBron] James, Anthony] Davis and the Lakers despite speculation they were the front-runners.”

Since reaching a deal with the Clippers, reports have surfaced that Kawhi reached out to fellow two-time Finals MVP Kevin Durant, as well as Kyrie Irving, in an effort to convince another superstar to join him on the Clippers. In the end, Leonard persuaded Paul George to request a trade out OKC, and the duo will now have two years, at least, to see what they can do as teammates in L.A.

T.I. Reflects On Triumphant "Trap Muzik" Run: "That of Legends:"

At this stage in the game, T.I has earned the right to be called a legend. There are many who still hold the King in high regard, with some even making a case for the GOAT position. After all, the man has done it all, from sales to accolades. He’s seen no shortage hardships and triumph in equal measure, and currently sits at the helm an Atlanta-based empire. Even his music, which most recently came to light on last year’s The Dime Trap, hasn’t lost a step. Suffice it to say, Tip is one hip-hop’s enduring figures, and can proudly look back on a long and storied career.

Today, the Troubleman was clearly feeling nostalgic. In honor his iconic run, Tip took to Instagram to share a throwback picture from the Trap Muzik days, a snapshot his raucous live show. “Aaaaaah the Memories,” he writes, alongside an image himself in action. “Performing Trap Muzik in Death Traps…That Legends.”

Interestingly enough, we most recently heard T.I. on the J.I.D. assisted “Ladies, Ladies, Ladies,” which found both parties reflecting on their various experiences with the opposite sex. Given the fervor with which these women are seizing his clothing, it’s no wonder Tip had ample material to draw from. It might have been something to behold, seeing a rising artist at a smaller venue, with stadiums yet to become the norm. Respect to Tip for sharing this one, and be sure to pay homage accordingly. Is T.I. deserving a place in the GOAT conversation?

Beyoncé Announces New Album ‘The Lion King: The Gift’

Beyoncé is ready to roar.

The global superstar is bringing together some of her favorite artists for The Lion King: The Gift, a musical ode to Disney’s live-action film. In addition to serving as the album’s executive producer and curator, she contributed new recordings.

Some of today’s most talented and important African artists pay tribute to the iconic film while bringing the authentic sounds of African music to the world.

According to a press release, The Lion King: The Gift is a “love letter to Africa” and “features a beautiful, multi-genre symphony, steeped in African influences from various corners of the Continent, with unexpected collaborations, pulsating rhythms and crisp production that celebrate the African diaspora.”

The first single, “Spirit,” will be available globally later tonight. The powerful track, performed by Beyoncé, was written by IIya Salmanzadeh, Timothy McKenzie, and Beyoncé, and produced by Beyoncé, IIya, and Labrinth. It appears in the film during a pivotal scene with Beyoncé’s character, Nala.

“This is sonic cinema,” said Beyoncé. “This is a new experience of storytelling. I wanted to do more than find a collection of songs that were inspired by the film. It is a mixture of genres and collaboration that isn’t one sound. It is influenced by everything from R&B, pop, hip-hop and Afro Beat.”

“I wanted to put everyone on their own journey to link the storyline,” she continued. “Each song was written to reflect the film’s storytelling that gives the listener a chance to imagine their own imagery, while listening to a new contemporary interpretation. It was important that the music was not only performed by the most interesting and talented artists but also produced by the best African producers. Authenticity and heart were important to me.”

The Lion King: The Gift is set for release on July 19, the same day the film hits theaters. A tracklisting and featured artists are forthcoming.

Beyoncé voices Nala in the live-action adaptation of Disney’s 1994 animated classic. Directed by Jon Favreau, the film also stars Donald Glover (Simba), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Scar), Billy Eichner (Timon), Seth Rogen (Pumbaa), and Alfre Woodard (Sarabi).

Additionally, Beyoncé duets with Glover on “Can You Feel the Love Tonight,” their remake of Elton John’s classic ballad, off the original motion picture soundtrack for The Lion King, which will be released digitally on July 11 at 8 a.m. PST.

Tekashi 6ix9ine Federal Case: Defendant’s Lawyer Says Client "Is Going To Trial"

There’s been many twists and turns in the Tekashi 6ix9ine case but the latest developments in the case so far seemed to have played in the rainbow-haired rapper’s favor. However, the latest update might end up being a setback in the rapper’s plans to get sentenced with time served. One the remaining defendants on the case isn’t going down without a fight which means that the trial will be moving forward.

Anthony “Harv” Ellison is accused kidnapping and robbing 6ix9ine but his lawyer made it clear in court that he won’t be copping a plea deal, Complex reports. Ellison’s lawyer, Deveraux Cannick, told the judge it was a “safe bet” that his client wants to take the case to trial. That being said, 6ix9ine’s lawyers are probably going into panic mode since they were hoping the defendants would all cop a plea deal.

“Anthony Ellison is going to trial,” Cannick said following the hearing. “The only motive he has for going to trial]: if Tekashi’s the one making the accusation, he wants to say, prove it,” Cannick continued to explain about his client’s decision before bringing up 6ix9ine’s trollery. “Tekashi has mastered the art marketing, trolling, and, for lack a better word, fabricating,” he added.

Cannick continued to explain that 6ix9ine never named Ellison when he initially spoke out following the kidnapping. “Did he say Ellison was involved] when he first came to the world? No, he didn’t,” Cannick continued. “The only thing that they’re going after Ellison on is the so-called robbery and kidnapping Tekashi.”

So overall, this seems like this could screw up any plans 6ix9ine had to get out with time served.
