J. Prince Issues Stern Warning To People Stamping "Rap-A-Lot Records" On Pills

Houston, TX – J. Prince has issued another call-to-action in an effort to figure out who is stamping Rap-A-Lot Records on narcotic prescription pills being circulated around Houston, Texas.

In an Instagram post shared on Wednesday (July 31), the Rap-A-Lot founder promised whoever was behind the crime will have dire consequences.

“All of my adulthood life I had to avoid being set up by law enforcement and the streets,” he wrote in the caption. “I vowed with an oath to God in my early 20’s to never contribute to this aspect of the game anymore in my lifetime. So, you can only imagine how I’m feeling about this violation that’s taking place in the streets of Houston with my brand @rapalotrecords on narcotic pills.

“I need to know if the police or the streets are behind this, because it’s a violation. If you are caught making, selling or using narcotics with my branding illegally imprinted on them, you’re in violation and will have bigger problems than just the police. Let the search begin Mob Ties family and friends, get at me with information.”

Prince has used Instagram as a vehicle to gather information before. In March, he called on Cardi B, Fat Joe and other Bronx-bred industry figures to help track down YBN Almighty Jay’s Rap-A-Lot chain that was stolen during a street fight.

Mysonne wasn’t pleased with Prince’s approach and said it only made things worse. Prince later claimed he didn’t need anyone’s help.

“Let me make myself clear,” he said. “I was never asking any of y’all for help in any capacity. I don’t need you, I don’t know you, or trust any of y’all to do anything concerning the streets for me.

“With that being said I witnessed a clown campaigning, bragging, and snitching on himself on a public video about robbing industry people in your backyard so I took it upon myself to alert the ones I have respect for. It is clear to me that went over some of y’all heads.”

Almighty Jay’s chain was ultimately returned.

I want to take this time to clarify my message to the people I tagged on my previous post. @funkflex @mysonnenygeneral @fredthegodsonmusic @ounp1523 @artisthbtl @iamcardib @hocus45th @corygunz174 @fatjoe @therealswizzz @remyma Let me make myself clear. I was never asking any of y’all for help in any capacity. I don’t need you, I don’t know you, or trust any of y’all to do anything concerning the streets for me. With that being said I witnessed a clown campaigning, bragging, and snitching on himself on a public video about robbing industry people in your backyard so I took it upon myself to alert the ones I have respect for. It is clear to me that went over some of y’all heads. Just for more clarity Ive been having ties in the Bronx and throughout New York for a long time and now it’s gotten even stronger with my youngstas. So don’t give any of the people I tagged credit for what others earn because they all strangers to me other than music. To all of you so called gangster clowns there’s a time and a place for everything and I’m going to give you what you ask for. To all of you that’s trying to narrow down my message to me wanting a chain lacks the depth of understanding that real street niggas have. That’s why you are all squares. There’s a movement taking place by the timid and the weak that wants to change the meaning of strong to weak and the meaning of weak to strong. My track record speaks for itself so I won’t lip wrestle with punks. I notice a lot of young men on the east coast that like to invite men to suck on their private parts then call themselves gangsters but real men don’t invite other men to suck their dicks unless they’re gay. I guess if the man you’re asking to suck on you say “ok” you’re gonna get naked? Now that you know better hopefully you punk ass niggas will do better. Or maybe it feels good being a punk ass nigga?

Out nowhere, Big Sean went from rocking a subdued fro to embracing a vintage era with his hair. Sean posted a shirtless photo himself with a big smile on his face and arguably the greatest afro on the planet. He additionally posted a behind-the-scenes shot his stylist working on the look, ensuring that he looks as glorious as can be. He says that he took the pictures a few months ago so there’s a chance his hair is even longer now. That, or he went back to his regular look without telling anyone.

Are you feeling Big Sean’s new look or should he revert back to his shorter fro?

A$AP Rocky’s Trial, Day 2: Rocky Gives His Side Of The Story

Today marks the second day A$AP Rocky’s assault trial, which follows yesterday’s courtroom events – you can catch up on what transpired on Day 1 right here. This time, both Rocky and his accuser Mustafa Jafari, 19, spent time taking the stand. The latter found himself on the receiving end cross-examination from Rocky’s lawyer Slobodan Jovicic, recounts which were documented and shared by BBC News correspondents Larissa Kennelly and Maddy Savage. To start, Jafari maintained that he was “looking for a friend,” when he stumbled upon Rocky’s entourage outside a restaurant; as he tells it, he had no idea that Rocky was a well-known personality, as he failed to see any swarming fans in the vicinity.

Though Jafari alleges to have been beaten with a bottle, a frame-by-frame analysis all available video footage, complete with strategically drawn red circles, seem to indicate a lack makeshift weaponry. Moreover, Rocky’s lawyer questioned whether approaching a group strange men while “looking for a friend” did not exactly feel like “sober behavior.” In other words, the man was drunk and/or stoned, and seemingly looking for trouble.

On Rocky’s turn to speak, he explained that he and his team intended on touring Sweden electric scooters, a journey that brought them outside Max’s Restaurant. It was there he crossed paths with Jafari, and the rest has come to be revealed through an unfolding video narrative. As Rocky explains, his bodyguard ultimately moved to forcibly distance Jafari, who retaliated with the headphone strike.

Feeling threatened by Jafari’s subsequent pursuit, Rocky did pick up a bottle in self-defense. As he tells it, however, he soon realized it was a mistake and discarded it. Yet by this point, the situation was already on the verge escalation, and as we know, a violent fight did indeed break out.

Despite his bodyguard’s best efforts, Jafari was persistent and continued to follow the men down an alleyway. At this point, prosecutors appear to focus on Rocky’s bottle, sharing footage him hiding the weapon in his sleeve. He maintains that he hid the bottle as a safeguard, but kept it hidden as to avoid provoking the already agitated accuser. Eventually, Rocky attempts to contextualize his behavior, explaining that his celebrity status has brought him close to a rogue’s gallery weirdos. As such, it’s difficult for him for his to remain calm in situations this nature. Following Rocky’s words, the court called a break.

Back on. The procedures opened up with Rocky being questioned about his “edited” Instagram footage. Rocky assures that the edits were made for a specific reason. “Us melanin Americans tend to use the n word excessively,” he explains. He also distinguishes that while a bottle was picked up, one was never used during the fight itself. As now, the updates are ongoing, so we’ll be sure to keep you posted with further developments.

Carmelo Anthony Shows Off Vintage Scoring Ability At The Gym: Watch

Carmelo Anthony was one the most prolific scorers in the NBA during his prime but over the years, he has suffered a serious decline and now, teams don’t want to take a chance on him. It appears as though Melo’s time in the NBA has come to an end even though many players around the league think he should at least get a farewell tour. Unfortunately, most teams have already filled out their rosters and there simply isn’t enough money to go around right now.

Despite all this, Melo is working hard in the gym so that he can prove all the haters wrong and show the world why he still belongs in the NBA. During a recent trip to Black Ops Basketball, Melo put on a clinic on the court and dominated the players he was up against. As you would imagine, these aren’t the best competitors in the world but he still did his thing.

The video was posted by Melo’s trainer Chris Brickley who recently went on the Breakfast Club to praise Melo. He even said that Anthony was better than 60 to 70 percent the league, which is certainly some big words encouragement.

While Melo’s future continues to remain uncertain, there is no denying that he wants to be back in the NBA badly and will stop at nothing to get there.

Draymond Green Admits He "Sucked" When He First Joined The Warriors

During the early 2010s, the Golden State Warriors started acquiring pieces in order to build a championship contender for years to come. In 2015, that work finally paid f as they won the NBA championship. The team would go on to play in five straight NBA Finals and have won three championships. One the most important players in that run was none other than Draymond Green who has been seen as a defensive specialist over the years. In a recent interview with ESPN, Assistant GM Kirk Lacob spoke about Green and how the player once admitted that he sucked when he first came to the team as a rookie.

“I had a conversation with Draymond about this right after our season. He said, ‘I would not be the player I was today if I had come onto this Warriors team three years ago,’” Lacob said. “He’s like ‘When I got here, we were a completely different team. I was given a chance, and I failed a lot.’ And he’s like, ‘I sucked my first year. My second year I was OK. My third year I got an opportunity. That’s hard for young guys who aren’t being given that opportunity because we got guys who have been here a long time and have established roles. There’s just no opportunity for growth.’”

Green will be up for a contract extension at the end next season so it will be interesting to see what the Warriors do with him and whether or not he’ll still be wearing the blue and gold in 2020-2021.

Cam Newton Goes Shopping Shirtless At Walmart And Confuses The Internet

Cam Newton is one those athletes who is known for having a pretty eclectic fashion sense. Some people love his outfits while others simply think that they leave a lot to be desired. Despite his polarizing fashion sense, it’s clear that he doesn’t really care what any us think and that moving forward, he’s going to continue to do exactly what he’s doing. Newton’s fashionable expression was on full display during his recent trip to Walmart where a few shoppers actually snapped some pictures the Carolina Panthers star. Funny enough, Newton was actually shirtless and had nothing but overalls and a scarf . He was also sporting an interesting hat that even Joe Budden would be proud .

LeBron James Shouts Out Michael Thomas On His Historic Contract

Michael Thomas and the New Orleans Saints made NFL history on Wednesday, as they came to terms on a five-year, $100 million contract extension, making Thomas the highest-paid wide receiver all-time. Not to mention, the 26-year old All Pro becomes the first non-QB fensive player to sign a deal worth $100M.

The historic deal includes $61M in guarantees, a far cry from the $1.148M he was scheduled to make this season in the final year his rookie contract. Immediately after news the deal broke, LeBron James took to social media to show some love to the former Ohio State product.

Thomas played in three seasons with the Buckeyes before being selected 47th overall by the Saints in the 2016 NFL Draft. He has eclipsed 90 receptions and 1,100 receiving yards in each his first three seasons, which includes two Pro Bowl selections and First Team All-Pro honors in 2018.

Last season, Thomas caught 125 passes for 1,405 yards and nine touchdowns, while boasting an 85% catch rate (125 catches on 147 targets) which ranked first in the league, according to NFL.com.

Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello Can’t Keep Their Hands Off Each Other During Pool PDA

Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello can’t deny their romance anymore. Ever since the duo dropped f their collaborative track and music video “Senorita” fans were sure they were a new couple but Shawn denied the rumours throwing everyone f their radar. It didn’t last long since Camila and Shawn were spotted once again kissing and holding hands in public.

If for some reason the latter wasn’t enough to prove that they’re for sure a couple, more photos have surfaced that sees the duo at a beach and pool in Miami sharing endless kisses. It’s clear Camila and Shawn are a couple and are enjoying the honeymoon phase their relationship.

“I’ve never had a lot friends. I’ve always just had a few people in my life that I trust. I feel like it’s so rare to meet someone in this industry and find a person that quality, and I feel like Shawn is that person for me,” Camila recently told Clash.

“I just trust him, and no matter the level intensity that he has around his career or I have, he is just normal, and that is so rare and precious to find in this industry,” she added. “To be able to hang out with someone and you don’t really care that they’re Shawn Mendes, you know what I mean? You’re just people, and that is definitely something that is rare.”

Irving Azoff, Dave Matthews Start an Artist Lobbying Group to Fight Big Tech

The Music Artists Coalition is a new lobbying group formed on behalf of some of the biggest stars in music.

Dave Matthews, Anderson .Paak and Maren Morris are all on board, along with manager Irving Azoff.

The Music Artists Coalition will advocate on artists’ behalf in music-related disputes in Washington.  The work will encompass a range of issues, many of which are only spottily represented on Capitol Hill despite billions of lobbying power by tech giants like Google

At present, musicians depend on federal courts and Congress to determine their royalty fees.  Bars, radio stations, and restaurants are all governed by federal consent decrees.  Copyright judges determine how much streaming services must pay to songwriters.

The music industry is no stranger to lobbying groups, but not many of them represent artists directly.  The RIAA was established to represent major record labels while the National Music Publishers’ Association (NMPA) is for major and larger indie publishers.

Manager Irving Azoff says artists really don’t have a seat at the lobbying table.  He aims to change that with the Music Artists Coalition.

“Just the fact that we have a powerful group of people will scare everyone else to the table.”

Azoff has been one of the most in the industry. He manages the Eagles, Gwen Stefani, and Travis Scott among others. Azoff previously formed the Recording Artists Coalition after changes in how bankruptcy laws work. Now he’s looking to take on tech titans.

Azoff recruited managers like and other publicists and executives who work directly with artists. Azoff says he and his fellow board members will self-fund the organization. Right now the group is in the process of hiring a lobbyist to represent them. The new coalition has already set its sights on a few issues to target.

Chief among those is the recent appeal of a ruling that boosted songwriter royalties. Dave Matthews joined the group to address being sold on retailers like Amazon.

Part of the Music Modernization Act called for tech companies to create a copyright database and collect royalties. But that has been held up in debates by how much the organization will need to be funded. The MAC hopes to give artists a seat at the table of these debates.

Mariah Carey Humbly Passes Lil Nas X The Billboard Torch

Mariah Carey has congratulated Lil Nas X for beating her record for the longest-running No. 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100.

Carey shared a photoshopped image of herself passing the torch to the “Old Town Road” creator Instagram. The hit single recently surpassed the 16-week mark set by her and Boyz II Men’s 1995 track “One Sweet Day.”

“Sending love & congrats to @lilnasx on breaking one of the longest running records in music history!” she wrote. “We’ve been blessed to hold this record with a song that means a great deal to @BoyzIIMen and myself and has touched so many. Keep living your best life! One Sweet Day will always hold a special place in my heart and I want to thank anyone who’s ever told me how this song has affected them and their loved ones.”

Carey’s 16-week record was previously tied by Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber’s 2017 single “Despacito.” As of July 2019, Lil Nas X’s breakthrough song has set the new high-mark at 17 weeks.

The longest-running No. 1 song isn’t the only record Lil Nas X has broken this year. “Old Town Road” also racked up 143 million U.S. streams in a single week, crushing the previous gold standard of 116.2 million streams set by Drake’s “In My Feelings.”

Does the Music Business Have a Copyright Trolling Problem?

The could mean millions in damages.  The music business may be looking at billions more.

What exactly constitutes copyright infringement of a musical work these days? You’ll have to ask a jury.

In other words: nobody can safely answer the question of what constitutes musical copyright infringement unless the infringement is absolutely clear-cut and blatant.  Otherwise, it’s fair game, with anything even remotely resembling something else vulnerable to litigatory attack.

Like Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse,” which — apparently — rips off a little-known song by Christian rapper Flame.  Flame and his crew argued that Perry, Dr. Luke, Juicy J, and others involved in “Dark Horse” must have known about their song, titled “Joyful Noise,” because it was nominated for a Grammy back in 2008.

It also has millions of plays on Spotify, YouTube and MySpace — yes, MySpace — which was enough for U.S. District Judge Christina Snyder to give the case the go-ahead.

“Dark Horse,” by comparison, has billions of streams, and is performed by one of the most recognizable pop stars in the world.  It was also created by two of the most famous producers in music, Dr. Luke and Max Martin, who helped to craft the winning song.

Did Perry, Dr. Luke, Max Martin, guest rapper Juicy J, et. al., know about “Joyful Noise”?  Maybe yes, maybe no, though the melodic loop is uncannily similar.  But even if they did know about the song, which they’ve denied, this might simply be a coincidence.

It boiled down to the skill of the arguing attorneys, the testimonies of the creators, and the highly-arbitrary ruling of a painfully uneducated jury.  That jury was almost certainly unaware that the internet is flooded with millions of artists and tens of millions of songs per year.  It’s also unlikely that this jury understands that relatively simple melodies can occur independently of one another.  It’s not always copying, especially when simple rhythms and melodic progressions are involved.

It’s hard to say this was clearly an infringement, simply because there’s a reasonable chance it wasn’t intentional.

Perhaps Katy Perry, the multi-millionaire performer who enjoys outsized celebrity attention, and her celebrity producers and major label allies, were too big a Goliath in the eyes of the emotionally-driven jury.

The result was that the presence of a very similar melodic hook, coincidental or otherwise, was judged as infringement (you can check out both tracks , and judge for yourself).

“This is an interesting decision, which shows just how low the bar can be for copyright infringement,” Nick McDonald, a copyright specialist at intellectual property law firm Potter Clarkson relayed to DMN.

“The segment of music in question is extremely simple and short, has a markedly different production and tempo and there are clear differences between the two songs as regards the notes actually used.”

According to McDonald, it isn’t that there’s zero similarity.  It’s just questionable whether enough similarity really exists to judge this copyright infringement with millions of damages attached (or, possibly tens of millions when all is said and done).

“Certainly, there is a degree of similarity, particularly in the three-note descending melody played over the beat line, but there will be some sympathy for Perry’s lawyers, who argued that the claimants are essentially trying to assert a monopoly over the ‘basic building blocks of music’.”

And there’s the big, billion-dollar problem.  Because as long as ‘basic building blocks’ of music can be judged a ‘basic infringing blocks of music,’ the music industry is staring at a potentially serious copyright trolling problem ahead.  Because any song that sounds similar to another song is now subject to legal scrutiny, with targets like “Dark Horse” minting millions for the successful litigant — even if it’s bullshit.

Of course, copyright trolling isn’t copyright trolling if a real infringement exists.

And some rip-offs are just obvious.  The use of a sample without a clearance in a rap song, for example, is clearly copyright infringement.  So is the extensive and obvious lifting of a complex melody or lyrical refrain.

Two cases that quickly come to mind: a , for blatantly ripping off a melody from a 1993 Robyn S. track, “Back It Up,” and an infringement case against Drake and YG for lifting a large lyrical refrain — without permission — from 90s rapper Rappin’ 4Tay (which resulted in a $100,000 out-of-court settlement).

Those are just some recent examples of blatant infringement.  One recent case that isn’t blatant infringement, I’d argue, is the Marvin Gaye Estate’s recent case against Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke.  The duo’s ‘Blurred Lines’ was judged a rip-off of Gaye’s “Got to Give It Up” by — you guessed it — a jury.

That ‘infringement’ was largely based on similarities of musical elements, including instrumentation and phrasing, not direct line-for-line copying (and if you’re interested in learning more about this controversial case, here’s our , Richard Busch).

But what’s the difference between ‘blatantly infringing’ and ‘possibly infringing’?

Unfortunately, neither the music industry, U.S. Copyright Law, nor the court systems have an answer to that question.  Which means anything is fair game for infringement, with everything incentivizing trolls to pursue multi-million dollar lawsuits.

After all, if Flame had lost to Katy Perry, the downside would be minimal.  It’s on to the next infringement case.  But if there’s a win — which is exactly what happened this week — there are potentially tens of millions of dollars to be claimed.

And in the absence of a clear-cut standard of exactly what constitutes infringement of a musical work, cases like “Dark Horse” won’t be the exception in the coming years.

They’ll be the rule.

WWE Updates Seth Rollins’ Status Following Brutal Brock Lesnar Attack

The Paul Heyman era WWE Monday Night Raw is ficially underway, and wrestling fans noticed a seismic shift in the product on the July 29 edition  the company’s flagship program.

Among the highlights last night’s episode  Monday Night Raw, Seth Rollins’ one-way ticket to Suplex City, courtesy WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar. The Beast Incarnate interrupted Rollins’ match against Dolph Ziggler and proceeded to pummel “The Beast Slayer” throughout the arena.

As seen in the footage embedded below, Lesnar hit Rollins with several German Suplexes before dishing out a series painful F5s, including one into the ring post and another onto a chair that was set up in the ring. The assault continued in the parking lot in vintage WWE fashion, as Lesnar pulled Rollins out the back an ambulance to deliver a final F5 onto a stretcher while the former champ coughed up blood.

Nicki Minaj Spotted Getting Marriage License At Beverly Hills Courthouse: Report

There may be a wedding in the works for Nicki Minaj sooner than later as it’s being reported that the rapper was spotted getting her marriage license earlier today. Just last month Nicki stated on Queen Radio that she and her boyfriend Kenneth Petty had already obtained their marriage license. However, according to TMZ, witnesses saw the rapper and Petty at the Beverly Hills Courthouse standing in line to receive their ficial marriage paperwork.

The pair reportedly did their best to keep from being recognized, but Nicki’s nearly-knee-length, bright red hair was difficult to miss. She wore a baseball cap to hide her face she as Petty made their way to the marriage license window. It looks as if the couple will tie the knot before the year’s end as the license is only valid for 90 days.

The Queen rapper has openly stated that wedding bells were near, but her “Zanies and Fools” collaboration with Chance The Rapper, a single from his recently released The Big Day debut, made people think she was also pregnant. “Bout to walk down the aisle and be a mommy,” she rapped. Also, just days ago Nicki went after fans and foes who have been speaking negatively about her relationship. “When a person is with a n*gga that loved them before they had a dime in their pocket? How do you not understand that?,” she asked on Queen Radio. “How do you not understand happiness versus clout? How f*cking dare you talk about lowering standards.”

Lil Nas X Reflects On His Come Up In Light Of Making Billboard History

Lil Nas X is a history-making man. At just 20-years-old he’s become the only cat to have the longest-running song on the Billboard Hot 100 with his beloved “Old Town Road” tune. Last week Lil Nas admitted to forcing customers at Red Lobster to stream his song for the coveted spot which proves he really did put in work to make his dream come true.

In light the amazing news, the “Panini” rapper has now come through to tell a little tale about his rise to fame and how it all started with a simple connection with the beat and lyrics that detailed his situation. “Last year in October, as a struggling artist starting to lose faith in what I could be, I went looking for beats on youtube. I remember clicking on so many generic sounding beats trying to find the right one for me. when suddenly I came across a country-trap sounding masterpiece. I immediately knew I would make something special out it,” he wrote.

The rest the post detailed how he had just days left staying at his sister’s place after being there and promoting his music for months. “I jokingly/seriously saw myself as a loner cowboy needing to run away from it all! I went out on my sister’s back porch and listened to the beat OVER & OVER & OVER!! then it came to me!!”

That’s when the catchy hook was born that has kept people hitting rewind on the song, leading to Lil Nas’ success. Read the post in full below and peep some reactions from fans on Twitter.
