Wrongfully Convicted Black Man Freed After 17 Years In Jail

We’re reporting on some good news today. A Louisana man was recently released from prison Thursday, June 27th after serving more than 17 years in jail for a crime he did not commit. Royal Clark Jr.’s road to exoneration commenced after a New Orleans Innocence Project took his case and convinced the Jefferson Parish district attorney’s fice to re-examine the incriminating fingerprint evidence in his case. According to reports from NOLA.com, the IPNO filed a motion to have Clark’s conviction thrown out after he was proven innocent. A Judicial District Court Judge by the name Donald Rowan vacated the conviction after a short hearing on Thursday.

Clark walked out Lousiana’s Angola prison exactly a day after his 42nd birthday and was greeted by his mother, father, sister, and his son. Clark was wrongfully convicted back in 2001 after eyewitness falsely identified him as the suspect in a Burger King robbery. The guilty verdict was handed down when Clark turned 25. Although Clark maintained his innocence throughout the trial and during his time in jail, it was only through the Innocence Project that he was able to acquire the justice he deserved. The organization asked the D.A. to take another look at the fingerprint found on a cup used by the suspect prior to the robbery and it led back to the DNA Jessie Perry, a 54-year-old man serving a 30-year sentence in prison.

This situation has been linked to a similar occurrence with a ride at the Ohio State Fair which fell apart in July 2017 while it was in motion. The malfunction resulted in seven people getting injured and a 17-year-old teen by the name Tyler Jarrell dying. Investigators at the time found out that the amusement park ride’s malfunction was mostly due to corrosion. The victim was, however, identified as a teenage girl with the initials MH.

120-Pound Hot Dog Aiming For Guinness World Record

New York City’s widely known for its street foods. Hot dogs are a staple in the city’s cuisine with hot dog stands posted up at essentially every corner. Feltman’s Coney Island is an eatery that’s widely credited for introducing hot dogs to Coney Island in 1867. It’s been 152 years since Charles Feltman introduced the hot dog to the Brooklyn neighborhood and to celebrate, Feltman’s is seeking to make it in the Guinness World Records with the largest hot dog ever.

A regular pair tongs won’t be enough to flip this 120-pound hot dog from Feltman’s Coney Island. The eatery is aiming to break the world record with the largest ever. The hot dog is measured at 5 feet long and 2 inches wide. It’ll be served in a five-foot bun from Michael’s Restaurant Brooklyn. The hot dog will be on display at Ulysses’ Restaurant on a six-foot-long grill.

The weigh-in happened on Wednesday at 3 p.m. The hot dog was later cut into small portions and sold for $10 a pop with the proceeds going towards a greater cause. Feltman pledged to donate all the money from the giant hot dog to the Headstrong Project, a non-prit organization meant to help veterans with mental health issues.

“This is all for the veterans. Today is the day the hot dog was invented here in New York and debuted at Coney Island on June 26th, 1867,” Michael Felton explained. “We’re a veteran-owned brand. We’re donating the proceeds — every slice this hot dog this afternoon will go to the Headstrong Project.”

PSY Faces South Korean Police Interrogation as K-Pop Drug Scandal Grows

PSY has endured a nine-hour police interrogation in connection with alleged K-pop crimes.

K-pop legend PSY was recently interrogated by South Korean police in connection with a comprehensive investigation of possible tax evasion, drug trafficking, prostitution solicitation, and various other crimes.

The line of questioning spanned two days and lasted more than nine hours.

However, it is important to note that the talent behind “Gangnam Style” hasn’t been charged with a crime. Rather, police believe that he might know something about a rather in-depth investigation that they’ve been conducting, and he was brought in to provide potentially useful facts.

The mentioned investigation concerns alleged crimes committed by members of South Korea’s thriving K-pop industry.

Yang Hyun-suk, a K-pop record-label owner and industry mainstay, is accused of trying to cover up charges of drug use levied against his clients. Additionally, police have accused Hyun-suk of hiring prostitutes for his associates at a business dinner in 2014.

PSY attended the dinner in-question and, upon speaking with police, denied that anything illegal — including the solicitation of prostitutes — had taken place.

Yang Hyun-suk has resigned from his role at YG Entertainment, the record label he co-founded nearly a quarter century ago.  In summary, Yang stated that he’d like the investigation to continue—and clear his name—without dragging YG Entertainment down in the process.

PSY is one of the most popular musical artists in South Korean history. The 41-year-old has released eight studio albums and holds several world records, including that for “Most Viewed Video,” which was issued by Guinness World Records. Additionally, PSY’s “Gangnam Style” is the first YouTube video to receive more than 1 billion views — though many others have since crossed the threshold.

As was said, PSY isn’t currently facing charges, but police indicated in a statement that charges could be filed at some point in the future.

Cardi B Confronts Reporter After Being Ambushed for Interview

Cardi don’t need more press.

Cardi B shut down a reporter who tried to approach her for an impromptu interview. According to Remezcla, Gelena Solano, who works for Univision’s entertainment news show “El Gordo Y La Flaca,” ambushed the Grammy-winning rapper and her father on the streets of New York.

Cardi was caught off guard when the female reporter tried to persuade her to do the interview, telling her that she was also Dominican. But Cardi wasn’t having it. “Yeah, but do you see how I look?” she asked before revealing that she was with her family.

“I have my daughter, I have my dad. I just don’t look decent. Come on, you’re a woman and you look good with makeup. I don’t look good, my hair’s fu**ed up. Don’t do that to me.”

She then walked inside the store while the determined reporter tried to speak to her father. That’s when Cardi came back outside to confront her for trying to put her dad on camera. “Don’t put my father on TV!” she said. “Because my dad don’t walk around with security.”

Cardi clearly wasn’t here for the surprise ambush. “Don’t come to me with cameras without me knowing. That’s disrespectful. I’m with my child,” she said as her father tried to calm her down.

Ex Guns N' Roses Drummer Hospitalized After Stabbing Himself

Guns N’ Roses ex-drummer Steven Adler was hospitalized late Thursday evening, June 27th, with self-inflicted stab wounds.

Initial reports suggested the drummer may have attempted suicide, describing the injury as “self-inflicted stomach wounds.” A rep for Adler later reached out to TMZ to say that the wound was a very minor, superficial wound.

Apparently, Adler ‘accidentally’ stabbed himself. But the details of the accident have not been revealed.

The LAPD has since confirmed that officers responded to Adler’s home after a 911 call. He was transported to a local hospital for what the police report details as “non-life-threatening injuries.”

Adler’s struggle with drugs and addiction has been publicly chronicled.  He joined the band in 1985 and is a credited songwriter on the band’s debut album, Appetite for Destruction.  But he suffered a broken hand and missed several tour dates in 1987, eventually slipping into heavy addiction.

In 1989, after missing an appearance at the American Music Awards, Adler revealed that he was in rehab at the time.

Steven Adler’s continuing struggle with addiction ultimately led to his firing from Guns N’ Roses in 1990. He was later arrested for possession of heroin in 1995.  Adler’s difficulties to overcome addiction led him to try again for treatment at a rehab facility in 2008.

Reps for the ex-drummer have confirmed that he remains committed to his sobriety, reportedly achieved that year.

Adler stated in an interview with CNN in 2012 that sobriety is something he “works at every day.”

Guns N’ Roses is currently prepping to start another leg of their ‘Not In This Lifetime’ tour this September. Tour dates will stretch across the United States and Mexico.  Despite leaving the band in 1990, Adler has made several guest appearances on previous legs.  Reps have confirmed that Adler will still appear at a July 12th show in Las Vegas as planned.

BMG Files Lawsuit Against Hilton Hotels After Hotel Chain Refuses to Take Down Infringing Works

BMG has filed a lawsuit against Hilton Hotels in the United States.

Filed at the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, the company’s Production Music division accuses Hilton Worldwide Holdings of direct, contributory, and vicarious copyright infringement.

According to BMG, the hotel company has willfully “exploited” four of its copyrighted sound recordings and compositions in “infringing” YouTube and Facebook promotional videos.

The self-described “production music house” writes,

The Defendants benefited from the unauthorized use of those copyrighted works in connection with the promotion and advertisement of their products and services.  [They also] benefited from the unlicensed use of BMG’s unregistered songs in connection with the promotion and advertisement of their products and services.

In addition, through its agent and copyright administrator TuneSat, the production music company notified Hilton Hotels about the infringement and unlicensed users.  Yet, the hotel chain has allegedly “refused to remedy their wrongdoing.”

Despite months of exchanges through correspondences, Hilton Hotels “willfully and intentionally [ignored] TuneSat’s correspondence.”

Highlighting the actual infringement, BMG says the hotel chain exploited ‘Start Moving’ in nine YouTube videos and six uploaded on Facebook.  ‘Collar Popper Holiday Mix’ also showed up in seven YouTube videos.  Hilton Hotels uploaded ‘Cookie Duster’ on YouTube.  ‘I’m On It (Instrumental)’ appeared in at least one infringing video.

BMG has listed seven causes of action: direct copyright infringement against Hilton Worldwide Holdings, direct copyright infringement against Hilton Domestic Operating Company, direct copyright infringement against ABC Corporation, vicarious copyright infringement against Hilton Worldwide Holdings, vicarious copyright infringement against Hilton Domestic Operating Company, contributory copyright infringement against all defendants, and unjust enrichment against all defendants.

In addition to seeking an injunction against the infringing content, BMG has sought compensation in actual damages as well as $150,000 for each infringing work.  The music production company has also requested a jury by trial.

Ranch Flavored Pop-Tarts Leave The Internet Divided

Chances are, you’ve had at least one Pop-Tart in your life; the sweet and crispy toaster pastry has been a household staple for decades, appealing to both young children as a midday snack, and stoners with late-night munchies, alike. The legendary desert snack was launched back in 1967, hitting shelves with only 4 flavor availabilities. Today though, Pop-Tarts boasts over 30 flavors (not counting all the limited addition options they came out with), from classics like Frosted Strawberry, and Frosted Brown Sugar Cinnamon, to more unexpected flavors such as Blue Raspberry and PB&J Strawberry. Perhaps there’s nothing Pop-Tarts can’t do, the exact sentiment one Twitter use had in mind when he tweeted the company his … interesting flavor suggestion.

The proposed new flavor could be good or bad … depending on what you’re into. Twitter user @kherf81 posted a picture, showing a box ranch flavored Tarts. “People say you can put ranch on anything….” he captioned the tweet, tagging both Pop-Tarts and Hidden Valley Ranch, the condiment company his choice.

Hidden Valley took no time to respond, also tagging Pop-Tarts and telling them to “give the people what they want,” to which, an unimpressed Pop-Tarts tweeted back simply: “lol no.”

The comment section had people divided, with some claiming they “WANT THE RANCH TARTS” and others declaring the idea “DISGUSTANG.” Pop-Tarts would Pop-Up once more every now and then on the discussion, to bluntly let everyone know it would not be happening, even jokingly telling one user to delete his account after he suggested they “make it happen.”

The whole, hilarious ordeal did succeed one thing though (other than giving us all a good chuckle), as the wild flavor suggestion inspired others to get creative in their own flavor proposals to Pop-Tarts, check out some the most insane ones below!

David Ortiz Shooting Mastermind Allegedly Wanted His Own Cousin Killed

The entire baseball world was in a state shock a couple weeks ago when it was reported that David Ortiz had been shot while in the Dominican Republic. Ortiz was enjoying a night out at a club when all a sudden a bike pulled up and someone shot him from the back. Ortiz had to undergo two separate surgeries which ended up being a success. Big Papi is now back in Boston where he has been recovering in the hospital. The baseball legend has since been taken out the ICU and is expected to make a full recovery.

Since then, authorities in the Dominican Republic have been arresting those in connection with the shooting and now, it appears as though they’ve arrested the final piece to the puzzle. Víctor Hugo Gómez Vázquez is believed to be the mastermind behind the whole thing and it was revealed that his target was actually his own cousin.

Sixto David Fernández was the intended target and the shooter confused Ortiz for him as they were wearing similar clothes. Gómez is believed to be a member Mexico’s Gulf Cartel which leads authorities to think the hit was drug-related.

Stay tuned for updates regarding this case as we will be sure to bring them to you.

New Music: Kygo & Whitney Houston ‘Higher Love’

Nearly a decade since her last album, Whitney Houston teams up with Kygo on “Higher Love.”

The late legend’s uplifting cover of Steve Winwood’s 1986 hit was originally recorded for her third album I’m Your Baby Tonight in 1990 and was only released as a bonus track in Japan. The single marks the first new Houston music since her 2009 album I Look to You.

Instead of remastering the original track, the Houston estate and RCA Records called on super-producer Kygo for a dance-floor ready collaboration.

“The Estate of Whitney E. Houston and our new partner Primary Wave are delighted with the collaboration between Kygo and Whitney,” said Pat Houston, Whitney’s sister-in-law and former manager, who doubles as the sole executor of her estate. “We knew Kygo would be the right producer to enhance Whitney’s powerful vocal performance on ‘Higher Love,’ to the standards and expectations that Whitney’s fans have recognized for over three decades.

“The resurgence of this precious archival performance will carry Whitney’s musical legacy on to a younger generation for years to come. Everyone should be ready to dance to this uplifting and inspiring record—a testament to Kygo’s incredible talent, and a reminder of why we fell in love with Whitney from the very beginning!!!”

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Kygo opened up about “Higher Love.” “I was trying to make it sound like something that she would’ve done, but also something that’s my style,” he said.

The Houston estate has even more plans for the future, including a hologram tour, a potential Broadway musical, and an album of unreleased material. “We want to remind people why they fell in love with Whitney in the first place,” said Pat.
