Lil Wayne May Be Blessing Lil Nas X’s "Old Town Road"

Much like an actual dusty trail, “Old Town Road” is seemingly neverending. With new records broken every passing week, Lil Nas X’s crossover hit has shown no signs slowing down. Before long, it may very well stand among the world’s most popular songs all time. Even when the Billy Ray Cyrus variant does eventually show signs tiring, Lil Nas X seems ready and willing to trot out a remix or ten. Most recently, he brought a variant with both that lovable yodeler Young Thug, and course, WalMart’s very own Mason Ramsey. Now, it would appear he’s got one with Lil Wayne chilling in the cut.

XXL shared a snippet Weezy’s verse, which once again finds our protagonist dabbling the cowboy motif, like a young actor excited to partake in his first western. Though a far cry from his lyrical dominance once seen on tracks like “Dedicate” and “Big Bad Wolf,” Wayne can basically churn out fire in his sleep at this point; even when he’s phoning it in, he’s still relatively competent. That is, course, should you still feel invested in taking a drip down “Old Town Road.”

Though, in a shockingly appropriate use the idiom, it feels like we’re beating a dead horse at this point. How many “Old Town Roads” are there going to be? We’ve already got Mariah Carey looking to hitch her wagon to the train, and Nas X is even looking to secure Dolly Parton and Megan Thee Stallion for another one. Are you still down with this one?

Air Jordan 4 "Cool Grey" Drops Early On SNKRS, Fans Take Harsh Ls

One the most anticipated sneakers the year is the Air Jordan 4 “Cool Grey” which has been teased over the last few months with some photos here and there. Yesterday, we reported that the shoe would be released on August 3rd for $190 USD. While the ficial release is still in the cards, Nike blessed sneakerheads with a surprise drop through the infamous SNKRS app which has been known to hand out a ton Ls over the past few years.

As you would expect, this recent release was no different as sneakerheads completely missed out on their chance to cop these kicks early. Many people took to Twitter to voice their frustrations and curse out the app which has been a source disappointment and despair for so many years. There were still quite a few people who were able to cop though so it’s not like everyone missed out, although it still sucks to see all the Ls on the timeline.

Let us know in the comments if you were able to cop the “Cool Grey” 4’s and if not, are you planning to try again in a few weeks?

Raptors’ Pascal Siakam Breaks Silence On Kawhi Leonard Signing: Watch

In just one year with the Toronto Raptors, Kawhi Leonard was able to bring the city its first-ever NBA championship. Not many people were able to foresee their rise to the top although with Kawhi going to the Los Angeles Clippers, they probably won’t see that success for very long. Leonard seemingly loved Toronto but it simply wasn’t enough to keep him from going back home to his first love Los Angeles. With Leonard f the team, the Raptors have to figure out how they can field another championship team which will be no short task.

TMZ recently caught up with Raptors star and the NBA’s most improved player, Pascal Siakam, who talked about Leonard’s departure. As he states in the video, he’s not too worried about it all and he’s confident the Raptors will continue to be a top team in the Eastern Conference.

“We’re still the champs right now, so I’m still enjoying that,” Siakam said. “Imma figure out next season, next season. It’s the NBA … sh*t happens. It’s the NBA. It’s a business.”

Siakam will now have to step up and become a leader on the Raptors as him and Kyle Lowry will be at the forefront the fense. The Raptors will surely be an interesting team to follow next season as the Eastern Conference is now wide open.

Meek Mill Shares Parole Restrictions & Not Being Able To Pick Up Son From School

Prison and criminal justice reform advocate Meek Mill isn’t just a thumb-thugging social justice warrior for social media. His journey began back in 2008 when Meek was arrested on gun and drug charges. He was placed on probation for five years (which has continuously been extended) and he kept himself out trouble for nine years, that is until he was thrown back in jail for a minor parole violation. A judge sentenced him to two to four years in prison, but thankfully he was eligible for release after spending six months behind bars.

Today, Meek will stand in yet another courtroom as he makes the argument that his 2008 should be tossed out. His battle with the judge in that case has been well-documented, as he’s accused her having a bias against him. On Tuesday morning, Meek’s full interview with Gayle King for CBS This Morning will air, and the rapper will talk about the injustice he and millions others face at the hands the system.

In this clip, Meek shared that he has to get permission to go anywhere outside his local area. “Even if it’s to the next county over. If it’s out the city, if you don’t ask for permission, you could get the rest your probation time given to you as jail time legally.” He said picking up his son from school was an impossible feat. “My son lived in New Jersey, but I lived in Philadelphia, and the bridge is a 15-minute ride. It’s just a bridge. I couldn’t go get my son from school when I wanted to, ’cause you know, some days I would get f work early. I would just have a free day, and I would just want to pop up at my son’s school and get him from school. I’d been out town for two weeks in a row workin’. Can’t really do it.”

Missy Elliott Talks Her Legacy & Says "Everything I’ve Spoke, I’ve Done"

Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott has been ahead her time since she burst onto the scene with her strange, futuristic music video for her single, “The Rain.” Her debut album, Supa Dupa Fly, not only showcased her skills as an artist but solidified the magnetic, money-making, innovative partnership between her and mega-producer Timbaland. The 48-year-old is currently grinding in the studio, working on her highly-anticipated seventh studio album, and Elliot sat down with Marie Claire to reflect on her legacy and how she’s managed to continue creating hits for over two decades.

Recently, Elliott was bestowed an honorary doctorate by Berklee College Music. It’s yet another honor to add to her list accolades that includes five Grammys, six BET Awards, two American Music Awards, four ASCAP Pop Music Awards, seven MTV Video Music Awards, 15 ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Awards, and three Soul Train Awards…and that’s not nearly the complete list. “I was just going, going, going,” she told Marie Claire about working on one thing after another. “It wasn’t resonating what was happening. After I did the Super Bowl in 2015], my friends called me and they are like, ‘So, what you about to do?’ I’m here mopping my floor, and I got to wash the dogs. And they are like, ‘What? You just finished doing the Super Bowl.’”

“And the same thing happened…I was in the car with Michelle Obama for ‘Carpool Karaoke’ in 2016], and they called me like, ‘Girl, we got to celebrate; that’s huge!’” Elliot said. “And I’m like, ‘I’m watching a movie on Netflix.’ Now that I’ve had a chance to slow down, I look back at stuff, and I look back at my ‘She’s a B*tch’ video 1999], and at the time I didn’t even think about it. But I look at it now and I’m like, ‘This is still so many years ahead.’”

So what’s her secret? Like many other successful artists, Elliott said she always knew what she wanted to do for a living, ever since she was a little girl. She said that she spoke her reality into existence and worked hard until her dreams came true. “It’s funny because I was just telling somebody that everything I spoke, I’ve done,” she said. “And that’s how powerful the tongue is.…I used to sit in the house and act like I was having conversations with Janet and Michael and Madonna and whoever. I then would go and say my thank yous for award shows that I hadn’t made it to yet. I had speeches, and I would be in the mirror thanking my mama.”

She continued, “When I got my first check, I didn’t even buy myself a house first. I bought my mother a house. Put a Bible in the soil and built it from the ground up.” Check out our examination into Missy Elliott’s impact on both music and culture throughout her career here

Bhad Bhabie Trashes Jermaine Dupri After Female Rap Comments: "Suck My D*ck"

There are a few women that are well-suited to speak on the perception female rappers today. The first people that come to mind are Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, and others. Bhad Bhabie doesn’t exactly stand near the top the conversation but she is still voicing her opinion on Jermaine Dupri‘s controversial comments from last week. JD went on the record, criticizing the state female rap right now by saying that he believes most women in the genre just spit about the same things. “I feel like they all are rapping about the same thing, and I don’t think they’re showing us who’s the best rapper. For me, it’s like strippers rapping. As far as rap goes, I’m not getting who is the best rapper,” said Dupri. Bhad Bhabie, the teen girl who shook the world with her “cash me ousside” phrase, has now ficially issued her response and she’s not happy.

The 16-year-old Floridian rapper took to her Instagram story to speak her mind on the whole issue surrounding female rappers all sounding the same, wanting all the smoke with JD. “Jermaine dupri can suck my dick,” wrote the socialite. “Been like 10 yrs since bow wow. Sit down grandpa.”

Dupri’s role in the game has been understated in recent years but that doesn’t mean he didn’t have a large role in the way the industry ran a few years ago. He is definitely qualified to speak on rap and, as expected, some people aren’t too happy with what he had to say. Are you on JD’s side or does Bhad Bhabie has a point?

A$AP Rocky’s Manager’s Hotel Room Raided by Swedish Police

A$AP Rocky’s Sweden assault case continues to unfold.

On Friday morning (July 12), the rapper’s longtime manager, John Ehmann, had his hotel room raided after he was served a search warrant in Stockholm, according to Fox News.

Just before 8 a.m. local time, Ehmann was awakened by four Swedish police officers who claimed they had a search warrant. During the raid, the officers allegedly seized the manager’s cellphone and asked for his passcode so they could examine the contents.

Ehmann “was completely taken aback” by the raid and “had no idea what this was about,” according to a source. Some in Rocky’s camp believe that it could be retaliation for the #JusticeForRocky online petition, which has garnered over 575,000 signatures.

Ehmann has been in Sweden since before Rocky was detained following the street brawl, but was nowhere near the location where the incident took place.

On Friday, the Swedish Prosecution Authority launched a preliminary investigation into the Swedish men who harassed and attacked Rocky during the street brawl in Stockholm. They are suspected of molestation and assault.

The Harlem rapper is scheduled to be detained until July 19 at the latest. At that point, the prosecution must decide whether to drop the case or request a longer detention period in order to finalize an investigation.

Scarlett Johansson Shades "Political Correctness" In Acting

With the recent uproar which surrounded the casting Halle Bailey as the new Ariel in Disney’s Little Mermaid, it is fair to say that casting choice when it comes to specific roles remains a sensitive topic in Hollywood. For many, the announcement a Black Ariel was met with joy and excitement, with hundreds social media users praising the diversity. However, some users expressed their strong disapproval over the fact that Ariel’s appearance will change in the live-action remake the movie, slamming Disney for its decision to stray from the original portrayal, which sees Ariel as pale-skinned and blue-eyed, with her iconic fiery red hair. In response to that, many called out the numerous instances in which White actors portrayed the roles individuals who were far from White originally. And now Scarlett Johansson has something to say with regards to diversity in casting with regards to unique roles.

The actress was previously called out for landing roles which folks thought were not hers to pray. For instance, Johansson was set to play a trans woman but quickly pulled out after many criticized her for it and supported that the role should go to an actual trans person. In a recent interview, the Avengers actress said her piece: “You know, as an actor I should be allowed to play any person, or any tree, or any animal because that is my job and the requirements my job. I feel like it’s a trend in my business and it needs to happen for various social reasons, yet there are times it does get uncomfortable when it affects the art because I feel art should be free restrictions.” Moreover, Johansson urges that she thinks “society would be more connected if we just allowed others to have their own feelings and not expect everyone to feel the way we do.” Do you agree? Should certain roles be f limits?

Dapper Dan Says Gucci Snub Is First Boycott By Black People That Has "Zero Results"

A couple years ago, fashion brand Gucci came under fire for ripping f the styles famed Harlem fashion designer Dapper Dan. They later came forward and claimed that they were inspired by his looks, but still many called foul on the clothing company. So, in turn, Gucci partnered with Dapper Dan and last year he debuted a collection with the luxury brand.

Recently, Gucci has been the target racist allegations after there were claims made that their clothing items were created to mock black stereotypes, specifically blackface. Celebrities stepped forward and called for a boycott, most notably rapper T.I. who used his platform to raise awareness about the influence black culture in fashion and entertainment, globally. However, not everyone wanted to join the cause, and there were plenty black famous figures who thought boycotting the brand was pointless and opposers were over-reacting.

Dapper Dan recently sat down with The Breakfast Club and talked about the Gucci boycott, a cause that he couldn’t get behind. “Gucci comes and they say everybody’s paying homage to Dapper Dan but nobody’s paying him,” he said. “We gon’ change that. We gon’ allow you to do what you’ve always done in Harlem and we’re going to do a partnership and you get a percentage that globally. I could never get that. That’s my foothold.”

He also shared that this isn’t a boycott worth championing because the outcome won’t produce change. “Don’t tell me there’s any organization in the world that don’t have a number people who are racist because we don’t hear them say it, that don’t mean it ain’t happening,” he continued. “Forget that part, let’s look at what can we get out this? This will be the first boycott black people have ever had in America that we get zero results. That is too damn stupid. You walk away because you’re insulted and you end up with zero? You can’t be no hero like that.”

The Los Angeles installation Atlanta’s Trap Museum is upon us. During the BET Experience a few weeks ago to celebrate the BET Awards, T.I.’s Lil Trap House pop-up made its way to downtown Los Angeles for the Kicksperience event.  “From BET talent to ficially working for Grand Hustle Records as General Manager Trap Music Museum, BET afforded me the opportunity to bring it full circle and curate a partnership where we can highlight the museum at the BET Experience 2019,” the museum’s general manager, Krystal Garner, stated. “It is an honor and the team, and I are grateful and excited.”

It seems that the Atlanta-based Trap Museum wasn’t finished with its work in the City Angels because it’s returned this weekend with another pop-up. According to TMZ, the temporary Trap music museum has been constructed in the parking lot Delicious Pizza in Hollywood and will be open for business for the next three weekends.

UK Watchdog Expresses Serious Concerns Over Live Nation's MCD Acquisition

Live Nation recently received approval from Irish regulators to purchase MCD Productions, a Dublin-based concert-promotion company.

Accordingly, the deal seemed set to go off without a hitch—until recently, that is, when U.K. watchdogs indicated that the acquisition might fail to receive government approval.

Stated in short, the acquisition was to derive from funds raised by Live Nation and MCD’s two owners, Denis Desmond and Caroline Downey, who own Gaiety Investments (LN’s partner in the acquisition); the former individual has served as Live Nation’s U.K. and Ireland chairman since 2015.

The acquisition, which was publicly announced in 2018, encountered a snag when the aforementioned watchdog, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), took issue with the deal’s potential impact on ticket sales. Specifically, CMA officials indicated that an acquisition/merger between Live Nation and MCD could limit music-promotion competition in Northern Ireland.  Now, Live Nation and MCD officials will need to convince the CMA that this isn’t the case.

Hovering in the background is a damaging leak demonstrating that Live Nation division Ticketmaster is actively feeding scalpers — then double-dipping on the profits.  All of which has been denied, of course.

Denis Desmond released a statement that indicated, in more words, his desire to cooperate with the review and allete the concerns of regulators.

The CMA also investigated Live Nation over its 2017 acquisition of the Isle of Wight Festival.  That deal was eventually approved.

Live Nation, which earned more than $10 billion last year, has a long—and internationally focused—history of acquisitions and strategizing. In 2015, Live Nation opened a branch in Germany, and in 2016, Live Nation bought Big Concerts International, which was, at the time, South Africa’s largest concert promoter. In 2017, LN bought Blue Stone Entertainment, a prominent Israeli concert-promotion company, in addition to acquiring numerous music festivals and other organizations.

This could be quite the kibosh if regulators refused to play ball.  That stated, if any company has the resources and experience to quell the concerns of U.K. regulators, it’s Live Nation.
