Jay Z turns 50 on December 4th and when that time comes, a book will be released that will detail his credible moves as a rapper, poet, businessman (not a business, man) with a forward from none other than Pharrell. Jay Z became a billionaire this year, was the first rapper to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame and has contributed renowned pieces music in his 30 years being a recording artist.

New York Times best-selling author Michael Eric Dyson will be penning the book that will examine Jay as a cultural icon and dig deeper into his lyrics from his chart-topping projects over the years. “This book is the fruit a decade teaching about one the greatest poets this nation has produced,” Michael told Entertainment Weekly.
“Jay-Z is not only a remarkable recording artist and ingenious businessman, but he is one our most gifted wordsmiths whose language drips with all the poetic tricks and skills you’ll find in Walt Whitman, Robert Frost, and Rita Dove. But as a rapper, he’s sometimes not given the credit he deserves for just how great an artist he’s been for so long.”
He added: “This book wrestles with the biggest theme his career, hustling, and what it looks like when it shows up illegally in the underground and how it looks when it’s part legitimate society.”
The book will be published on November 26th. Who’s looking forward to this?
Just last week, Yeezy Mafia revealed two new colorways the Adidas Yeezy Boost 350 V2 called “Citrin” and “Cloud White.” The “Citrin” model got some fancy new photos courtesy @hanzuying and now, the Instagram sneaker insider is back with a detailed look at the “Cloud White” version. Over the past few months, Kanye has been taking a lot flack for copying colorways and releasing shoes that look way too similar to one another. Regardless, the shoes have been selling out and based on the images below, fans might be pleasantly surprised by this colorway.
The shoes have a static pattern with the translucent swoosh which has become a staple the 350 V2. From there, the midsole, cuff, and laces are white while the upper appears to feature a heavy dose blue. At first glance, the Primeknit could be confused as completely white, although there is definitely a light blue tint in there. This certainly helps differentiate the shoe from other Yeezy models that have released over the last couple months.
If you’re looking to cop these, they will be released sometime in September so stay tuned for all the latest details.
Cardi B‘s legal hurdles with blogger Latasha K has recently taken a turn, and the rapper is calling foul. The “Press” artist is already dealing with a courtroom battle as she stands accused orchestrating a strip club beat down, but now Tasha is hitting Cardi with a new slew accusations. Earlier this year, TMZ reported that Cardi sued Tasha for stating that the rapper was a drug user and prostitute with an STD. Tasha clapped back with a lawsuit her own, accusing Cardi slander.
However, Tasha has upped those allegations, now saying that Cardi harmed her unborn child by causing her stress after threatening her with violence. Tasha also states that she had to find a new place to live because she was so afraid and that her doctor recommended she be on bed rest throughout her pregnancy for the health her baby. The blogger reportedly claims that she even contacted the FBI but was just told to move to another location if she was feeling unsafe and believed that Cardi’s alleged gang member affiliates were going to come after her.
Cardi responded to these new claims by releasing the following statement to TMZ her rep:
“Tasha K’s counterclaims are completely frivolous and have no merit. Tasha K clearly seems to think that this lawsuit and the courts are her social media channel where she thinks that she can say anything she wants, without regard for the truth, harassing Cardi and her friends to try to gain reader to her blog at the expense Cardi.
This is failing — Tasha’s own words in interviews and documents show that her claims are completely false. Cardi fully expects that Tasha K’s claims will be dismissed, and that at the end this case, Cardi will be victorious and Tasha K will be held accountable for the blatantly false things she has said, written and posted about Cardi, that Tasha K knew were false.”
Instagram – Erykah Badu has had several high profile relationships throughout her 48 years on this planet, including one with comedian/talk show host Rickey Smiley.
On Tuesday (July 9), Ms. Badu hopped on Instagram and revealed just how much disdain she has for Smiley’s mother, Carolita Smiley Lester.
In the caption, Badu claims Lester has gotten physical with her on three (make that four) separate occasions. She says Lester showed up at a recent Dallas show and was waiting for her backstage. Badu says she’s normally able to fight her off but this time, Lester socked her in the jaw.
“This guy . I love . Period,” she begins. “But his mama won’t get out our business. She was at my show in Dallas waiting back stage to fight me again. And I’m tired of it. SIS RELAX. We had 3 fights and I keep laying that ass down. But this time that bitch got me… in the Jaw. I didn’t recognize her cause she was blending in with mary j blige dancers.”
Yesterday marked Jaden Smith‘s 21st birthday and it was seemingly spent with all his closest friends and family members by his side. Of course, Jaden’s father Will Smith was in attendance and a video shared to Jordyn Woods’ Instagram story shows the funny speech Will had for his son before he took his first ever shot alcohol – or at least that’s what they called it.
“Here’s to being f my insurance, here’s to paying your own bills, I am gonna have the accountants transfer all your stuff first thing tomorrow morning,” Will joked, adding “But keep doing you, man. We love you and we’re very proud you.”
Jordyn, who’s known Jaden and his family since birth, penned a sweet note about her friend on Instagram in light his born day.
“Honestly @c.syresmith is probably one the realest people in life,” she wrote. “We must’ve traveled in a past life to get here today but from 0 to 21 years old were still here. HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the most loving and caring boy I know. I love you bestfriend!! Here’s to the tequila shots we’ll be taking later.”

Gracing the stage Jimmy Kimmel Live! just a few hours ago was Texas rapper Megan Thee Stallion. It’s been a whirlwind a year for the leader the Hot Girl movement, and she embraced the fiery red stage with open arms. Covered in glitter and wearing chaps with booty shorts, Megan opened her performance with “Realer” f her latest record Fever, before moving on to her breakout hit “Big Ole Freak.”
Speaking singing, Megan also revealed that she’s not only a rapper, but may have some impressive vocals that fans have yet to hear. Queens, NY – Madlib performed at MoMa PS1 in Queens alongside his Bandana collaborator Freddie Gibbs, Pardison Fontaine and others over the weekend. As part of his set, the veteran producer unveiled an unreleased collaboration with the late Mac Miller much to the delight of his audience.
“I’m doing EP’s in one day/Sober right now but I’ll be back by Sunday,” Miller spits at the top of the first verse.
Although it’s unclear where exactly the song originates, it’s possible it comes from Maclib, Miller’s nearly mythical joint EP with Madlib.
In February, Thelonious Martin appeared to let the cat out of the bag during an interview with DJ Booth.
“So I’m trying to focus and DJ, and Madlib gets on and 15 minutes into his set he just randomly plays a Mac Miller joint,” Martin said. “And I turn to him, I’m like, ‘There’s more of these, right?’ He’s said, ‘Oh, yeah, there’s a whole album. Maclib.’
“What! What! He just kept moving on with his DJ set. If Madlib decides to bless the world with that project, he should.”
This is the second Miller collaboration Madlib has teased this year. In March, he played a snippet of a track featuring the Pittsburgh-bred artist and his good friend Thundercat during a set at Music Box in San Diego.
Miller died on September 7, 2018 from a drug overdose, sending shockwaves through the Hip Hop community. He was 26.
Everything was nice and fun with her 27-year-old ex-felon boyfriend but Wendy Williams decided to move on to somebody that can provide for her in every way she needs. When she was just trying to mess around, she opted for a younger gentleman but now that she’s ready to build a meaningful connection with a man again, she found somebody closer to her age to grow with, which she revealed during her comeback talk show episode today.
As reported by Page Six, the former radio personality is dating a doctor in his fifties, and she’s head-over-heels for him right now. “I’m not on the market anymore. I’m not in love. I don’t know how I’m doing. I’m not in love but there’s somebody that I’m crazy about,” said Wendy. “It’s not who you think. OK? Mother doesn’t deal with children, but it just so happens that I guess with my charm and wit, I attract people all ages. 27-year-old boys, quite frankly, find me attractive. I get it, but when it comes time for the comfort a man, I need someone in his 50s, too, and he’s gotta work. It helps that he’s a doctor. He’s been married. His kids are in their 20s, and yes, he’s black. He’s brown-black.”
Williams shared further details about her new man, saying that he’s from Los Angeles and only visited New York for the first time recently to see her. Good for Wendy. Hopefully, she’s able to make it work for the long haul with her new partner.
Houston, TX – Individuals doing weird things with food on social media will forever remain a thing.
There isn’t a better example than the current trend of grown adults deepthroating cucumbers for the gram. Before this new obsession became headline fodder enough for Amber Rose to add her two cents, the practice had become a regular thing at Beatking’s live performances for over a year-and-a-half.
One can’t witness a Beatking set without him shoving a cucumber or eggplant down a woman’s throat as he performs fan favorites including “Scream” and “BDA.” Besides his NSFW shenanigans, the Houston rapper/producer has been consistently releasing music for nearly a decade through his Club God and Gangsta Stripper Music series alongside collaborative Underground Cassette Tape Music projects with Gangsta Boo. Around that time, he created “freestyles” based on meme-able topics similar to another Holiday season favorite.
Speaking with HipHopDX, Beatking explains how a disappointing tour led him to get creative with vegetables, issues with Travis Scott over Astroworld, the ultimate goal of working with Juicy J and more.
HipHopDX: As social media gave thoughts about the #CucumberChallenge, many of your fans were vocal about you setting the trend. Can you recall the moment you decided to actually make that a thing?
Beatking: It’s a long story so I’m going to make it short as possible. I went on this tour in 2017 and it was the worst time ever for me. The guy I went on tour with — who was supposed to be promoting it — didn’t promote the shows right. He was sabotaging my brand. A lot of shows he ended up canceling. He had to give the fans their money back due to ticket issues. It was all a big mess. It had me really down, messed up and discouraged. I kept asking myself how do I get out of this feeling? I was like alright, I gotta get a song to bounce back. I had dropped a new song called “Scream” and everybody liked it. Then I was like I gotta shoot a video for it. What can I do to get everybody watching it? I thought I could top “Tip Drill” by having chicks sucking on cucumbers and eggplants. I’ma put Uno cards on they tities. I was just living my life. At the end of the night, I had 60,000 views from the behind-the-scenes of the video on my Snapchat. I guess it even made Pornhub too. It’s crazy. It went viral up to the Midwest, Gulf-Coast. How could I bring the video to my fans? Then I was like I got it, I’ll get the vegetables from the video to the fans. The first night I did it, it went viral. 50 Cent posted it I believe, DJ Akademiks posted it I believe, Baller Alert posted it. The first two times were crazy. I caught a new wave and dyed my hair green. I started calling myself Disgusting Justin. My music was already crazy but it gave my brand new life. Females do whatever I say now.
HipHopDX: How much have you spent collectively on vegetables for shows?
Beatking: All together for about a year now? Probably around $50. Like they only like thirty or so cents. For like two dollars I get thousands of dollars.
HipHopDX: Do you think all of this is leading more people to your music?
Beatking: That exposed a lot of people to my brand. My fanbase knows this. I’m still climbing as an artist as well. I’m trying to get more exposure for my brand and my music. This has helped a lot. A lot of people who don’t know me are like “Who the fuck is this nigga? I don’t know who he is. I obviously must be late cause these females who are willing to do anything. Who is this nigga?” People are doing their research and making sure my shows are packed out. It’s all about the music and experience. I’m not paying these people. I’m not Chris Brown sexy. I’m just a ratchet ass nigga that’s jamming. It’s all coming back to my brand. People are doing it all over the world. I ain’t tripping off of people who copy me cause I’m just cool with people being inspired by me. What I don’t like is when people promote their club or event using my footage. Matter of fact, it’s one dude in Atlanta right now promoting his #cucumberchallenge night using my footage. Other than that, I’m no hater.
Gangsta Boo always jokes about me being a real “Known Unknown.” I was talking about my manager about that today. If you’re blessed to be around long enough, you will inspire somebody and next year will be ten years of me being in the game. Suede The Remix God tells me all the time when nobody knew me, I use to be on WorldStar watching all of your songs. He got the whole template from me. He’s said it on social media a lot though.
HipHopDX: Earlier this year, you released Club God 6 which featured one of my favorite tracks this year “Broke” featuring Fabo of D4L.
Beatking: I always wanted to work with him. Me and Fabo been following each other for years. My first show in Atlanta was in 2014 and were in the same club. I saw him and walked over to him just to tell him that I was a real fan for years. From there, we exchanged each other’s information and been cool ever since. When the cucumber videos started going viral Fabo hit me up like, ‘You crazy as fuck!’ I’m like. ‘Nigga coming from you?’ I told him about the ‘Broke’ joint and he was kind enough to lend me a verse and hook. Fabo cool people.
HipHopDX: The project also features “He’ll Shoot” with Project Pat. You’ve made no secret of your admiration of Three 6 Mafia and Hypnotize Minds. Was that through your work relationship with Gangsta Boo?
Beatking: I met Project Pat from when I used to post videos of me making beats and would ask fans to tag their favorite artist. One beat I made, folks started tagging Project Pat and he actually responded. I was doing that a lot last year. He DM’ed me asking me for the beat and I said it’s yours. I was so honored for him to even DM me. From there, Pat is cool as hell. We locked in now. I’m climbing up the Mafia ladder. All I gotta do now is get a verse from Juicy J and I would have worked with. DJ Paul, Gangsta Boo obviously, Project Pat, Skinny Pimp. I ain’t not hater. I just gotta climb a little bit more and become more official.
HipHopDX: Should we expect a sequel to last year’s Underground Cassette Tape Classic Vol. 2 despite the fact that it sort-of-flew under the radar?
Beatking: Honestly, me and Gangsta Boo talk about this all the time. Underground Cassette Tape Classic 2 wasn’t as successful as the first one because of lack of promotion. The first one was a surprise. The sequel, everyone was waiting for it but it just wasn’t promoted right. We were trying to find a publicist and that’s the hardest thing for an independent artist is finding a publicist that respects you. A lot of these publicists want to take your money and do nothing. We’re most definitely going to do a Vol. 3 when the time’s right. Gangsta Boo working on her new album right now. I believe it’s going to be called the BooPrint.
All these female rappers out right now rapping like her.
Beatking: This my thing, Astroworld was a theme park in Houston, TX. It meant a lot to everyone here. Astroworld does not belong to Beatking but it belongs to Houston. I was the first person to put it in album form. I was the first person to do that and he knows that. My thing is that it wasn’t a situation where I was asking for permission or something. If you knew that, the conversation could have been had since you’ve been following me on Twitter and sending me DMs.
Even when it dropped, I wasn’t salty about it because I had already dropped two Astroworld albums by then. I addressed it and kept it real. Then Sauce Walka broke down to me what they had talked about. When Sauce Walka told me with Travis Scott said, I just thought that was real fake. Like you one of them niggas. That’s why I made “Beatking Gotta Leave Houston” on Club God 6. He told Sauce Walka that the reason he took Astroworld from Beatking and not shout him out was because he tried to tweet that me back in the day before I blew up and I ignored him.
Nigga what? You could have said that in the DM when we were doing music. You could have been said that because I ain’t-a hoe ass nigga. I probably didn’t even see it but damn. If you feeling like that, you not the type of nigga I want to be around anyway.
HipHopDX: Should we expect new music soon?
Beatking: Right now I’m just dropping singles on singles. I already dropped Club God 6 so I don’t think I’m going to drop another album this year. I’m just making sure my presence is strong in the club. I have songs with newer artist so I’m just dropping them right now. Working with folks who say they’re inspired by me. I also signed artist including Big Jade from Beaumont, TX and her new single “Period Pooh.”
Whatever La La Anthony did before getting to the casino, she may want to repeat that exact same routine the next time because she got very very very lucky in Nola. She posted videos herself winning a new fortune last night and her Power co-star Curtis Jackson commented on her win. “@Lala well got damn, Good morning I thought I was having a good morning,” wrote Fif in his own post. “Any you motherfucker owe me money, it’s Monday.”
Considering 50 Cent woke up thinking about money, there’s a good chance we’ll see a new target get named today. Check out his latest post below.
Snoop Dogg could barely keep a straight face as he G’ed up on the recent #BottleCapChallenge craze.
In an Instagram video posted on Sunday (July 7), the D-O-Double-G blasted those participating in the latest viral social media challenge — but he did offer an alternative.
“I’m sick of this fuckin’ bottle shit,” he says in the clip. “Quit kicking tops off of bottles you goofy muthafuckas. Who the fuck making up these dumb as challenges? Kick the top off of a fuckin’ bottle.
“This the new challenge. Pick up a muthafuckin’ phone and say, ‘Shut the fuck up, bitch.’ That’s the new challenge muthafucka [laughs].”
This weekend, Disney fans were devastated to hear that Cameron Boyce, a 20-year-old actor, had passed away from natural causes. Regardless whether or not you’re familiar with the man’s filmography, you have to agree that twenty is far too young for somebody to leave this planet. With so much life ahead him, Boyce was remembered by a number his peers who took to social media to remember their favorite moments with the star. His cause death has not yet been ficially revealed but his family issued a statement that said he died during his sleep due to an ongoing medical situation. According to new reports, Cameron reportedly suffered from epilepsy, which triggered a fatal seizure in his sleep.
Matt Winkelmeyer/Getty s
The young Grown Ups and Jessie star was found dead on Saturday night when his roommate noticed he was unresponsive. When paramedics were called to the scene, Boyce could not be revived. The actor had reportedly been dealing with epilepsy and seizures for a while but he was able to put his medical issues to the side so he could focus on levelling up in the movies and on television. That takes a lot guts and dedication. To see a young man who was so focused on achieving greatness be taken away from his fans is truly heartbreaking.
Boyce’s family issued a statement following his death, which reads: “The world is now undoubtedly without one its brightest lights, but his spirit will live on through the kindness and compassion all who knew and loved him.”
Nicki Minaj recently celebrated her twelve-year reign in the rap industry with a lengthy post wherein she blasted her naysayers and proclaimed she would soon be putting them on blast on Queen radio. “12 years ago I dropped my 1st mixtape,” she begins, sharing an image Playtime Is Over. “Wrote every single word on every single song. I was so proud that.” Moreover, the Hip Hop artist also emphasized the importance penning her own songs and paying respect to those who came before you. “I always shouted out my influences in my interviews. Now a days, it’s become cool to pretend u weren’t influenced by other artists,” she writes. “S/O to the ones big enough to do it: Kash, Asian, Cuban, Saweetie, Meg, Malibu, etc.” And upon seeing her post, fans have swarmed to the post and showed support to the rap star by coining and trending the hashtag #WeStandWithNicki.
Of course, not all shared the same sentiments and instead, felt that Nicki had not earned her stripes yet. Considerably, social media split in two halves with those in favour Nicki Minaj’s contributions to the game and those in opposition the rap artist. What are your thoughts, has Nicki earned her stripes?
Just 2 days ago, we reported on the bizzare video that had recently gone viral which showed a young woman pulling a “prank” at a Walmart store in Texas. The video previews the woman – egged on by the man behind the camera – taking a tub Bluebell ice cream out the store’s freezer, lickick all the way across the top, covering it, and proceeding to place it back in the freezer, laughing as she makes a quick exit. The public was rightfully outraged at the clip, and what started as an unsanitary prank has turned into a legal case, with Walmart partnering with Bluebell and authorities to swiftly identify the female suspect. “Food tampering is not a joke,” they stated, “and we will not tolerate tampering with our products.”
Now, the plot has thickened as the woman in question has been identified, and revealed to be a minor. This revelation this information could definitely change the up to 20-year sentence she was originally potentially facing. According to Fox 5 Atlanta, the couple has come forward and “admitted to the act.” After Luftin, Texas authorities allegedly spoke with the suspect and her boyfriend, they discovered that she hails from San Antonio, but is linked to the Lufkin area through her boyfriend. Due to the fact that she is under age, her name will not be released to the public, and her case has been handed over to the Texas Juvenile Justice Department, who will further decide what charges she may face. As for her boyfriend, who is not a minor himself, police are still deciding whether he will face any charges for his role in the incident.
