In its first year, Pismocean is making waves in the boutique festival space by bringing an absolutely unreal lineup to play in the sand this weekend, November 4-6, at Pismo State Beach in Central California. With three days of house, techno, live bands and more, there are so many acts spread across two stages that will be ideal for a sunny afternoon, evening or sunrise on the beach.
With a beautiful list of names that will grace the beach’s presence this weekend, we had to pick a few of our favorites we’re looking forward to seeing.
Lee Burridge, a DJ hailing from the UK, has been mixing since 1984. Since then, he has grown to be one of the most well-known artists in the house and techno music scene. His first big break came in 1987, when he was turned on acid house music; from there, the rest is history. His label, All Day I Dream, was created in partnership with Matthew Dekay in 2011 and is known as for its prolific explorations in house and techno music. Burridge’s sunrise sets are one of the most captivating few hours of sound you’ll experience, so be sure to be ready to watch the sun come up with him on Sunday morning.
Also originally hailing from England, Lee Reynolds is one of the founding fathers of tech house label Desert Hearts and a prolific DJ that keeps listeners grooving for hours. He is known for bringing the weird and the wonderful to the dancefloor and is truly one of the most magical live performers we’ve seen yet, mixing in an eclectic balance of house, techno, acid and breaks to his tunes. He plays Friday night from midnight to 2am.
The Naven Twins
The Naven Twins are a Los Angeles-based duo, Kym and Alexis McKay, that not only make music, but also are major girl bosses and entrepreneurs. New to the scene (their Soundcloud only dates to about a year ago), these two have dived into tech house with the perfect feminine touch.
David “DAVI” Khanjian is another Los Angeles-based artist that has been hailed as “LA’s best kept secret.” As a DJ and producer, he began making music at the young age of 17 and has made a name for himself in the house and techno music worlds ever since. He became a resident DJ for Insomniac Events in Los Angeles in 2010 and can be found on labels including Rebellion,
Nico Stojan, an artist originally from Berlin, has his roots in hip hop music. Over time, however, the Berlin techno scene and a residency at bar25 shifted his music taste and track selection to house music, a genre in which he thrives today. His music today inserts influences and melodies of jazz and soul music as a result, creating an intriguingly beautiful sound appealing to house music loves looking for something to enjoy.
Kevin Gates is currently serving 180 days in jail for kicking a woman and his wife is not happy about the sentence.
Gates, real name Kevin Jerome Gilyard, kicked a woman in her chest during a performance last year. He was found guilty assault and was sentenced to six months behind bars. His wife Dreka was furious about the sentence as evident in a lengthy Instagram post. She also posted a video the incident showing the Baton Rouge rapper kicking in the direction the female.
“You mean to tell me that@iamkevingates kicked the girl in the red jumpsuit and knocked the breathe out her?” she wrote in the caption a video the incident. “Because that’s what she’s been claiming and testified today in court. If anything her friend choked the f**k out her.”
There are still some doubts as to whether or not the kick did landed on the female.
“She claims she fainted, but yet she and her friend stayed at the club at the front the stage even after this incident,” Dreka added. “She also acquired a civil attorney early on…what does that tell you? She also touched him FIRST (more than once) without his consent but yet he was the one sentenced to jail today for the same crime.”
Drake’s 30th birthday is tomorrow, and all his fans are already celebrating, as he just announced a new project, More Life, and premiered four new tracks on OVO Sound Radio. He began with a track called “Two Birds One Stone,” which will appear on More Life. The song will be welcomed fare for those longing for Drake at his most lyrical. He raps nonstop for the better part four minutes, alternating crafty metaphors and similes with layered, reflective storytelling.
Over lo-fi, sample-heavy R&B production — the classic OVO formula, likely involving 40 — Drake’s main focus with “Two Birds One Stone” is to address those who question his status in the rap game because his background isn’t in the streets. He defends his own story while also attempting to expose rappers who cling to dope boy fantasies when they’ve really only engaged in low-level street activity.
“Two Birds One Stone” will join “Sneakin’,” a collab with 21 Savage, and “Fake Love” — the pop-leaning record with the most hit potential — on More Life, which Drake says is arriving in December.
UPDATE: Looks like a shot at Kid Cudi, who’s currently in rehab for severe depression, in the lyrics below.
You were the Man on the Moon, now you go through your phases
Life the angry and famous
Rap like I know I’m the greatest and give you the tropical flavors
Still never been on hiatus
You stay xan and perked up so when reality set in you don’t gotta face it

The music industry consolidations continue as Live Nation has made yet another purchase. This time Live Nation has acquired a majority stake in AC Entertainment, which is a co-founder of Bonnaroo. The festival’s other co-producer, Superfly, is reportedly not involved in this deal and is involved in festivals such as the Okeechobee Festival in Florida. A year ago Live National acquired a majority stake in the festival itself, but not the producer AC Entertainment. This gives Live Nation a bigger footprint in the South East, as Bonnarroo takes place in Tennessee. The founder and CEO Ashley Capps remarked on the deal saying
As we got to know the Live Nation team better, especially working on Bonnaroo, it became clear that our teams could complement one another very well. It seemed like a great fit for AC, for where we are as a company now and how we expect to grow in the future.
Besides Bonnaroo, AC Entertainment includes Forecastle and Big Ears in Kentucky as well as Sloss Music and Arts in Birmingham, Alabama. AC’s management will stay in place and the staff is also slated to remain as is.
RIP Vine: June 2012 to October 2016
Yesterday, Twitter, announced that they would be discontinuing the Vine mobile app. In a press release via Medium, Twitter assured users that the website would be available forevermore for people to view Vines, and that the app was not going anywhere immediately. Twitter did not announce why they were shutting it down, but some hypotheses have been floating around.
One proposed reason for Vine’s demise is a decline in content and usage. People have been leaving the service at a rapid pace and if they don’t leave, they simply aren’t posting.
“Our data shows that more than half (52%) of the platform’s top users (those with 15,000 followers or more) have left the platform as of January 1, 2016. There are 9,725 users on Vine that have more than 15,000 followers, putting them in the 99th percentile, and 5,094 of them have not posted on the platform since the beginning of this year” according to a study from Markely.
Reasons for this decline range from Instagram’s inclusion of video into the platform, which effectively stole Vine’s social market, and then Snapchat’s rise took its market of celebrities offering quick glimpses into their lives. These two apps effectively replaced most of the good things that Vine has to offer.
Some mourn the loss, while others say that mobile apps come and go. My question for the people is, “What’s next?”

Every year around this time, RL Grime debuts a Halloween mix – this being the 5th in the series – and always unleashes a few surprises. Aside from an intro by Pharrell and a handful of IDs, the long-awaited collaboration between RL, Skrillex, and What So Not made its first studio version appearance at the very end of the mix. “Waiting”, as it now has been identified via Shazam, is allegedly set to release on November 3rd according to Amazon.
“Waiting” was first played during a What So Not set in Los Angeles this past September, after RL Grime was brought up on stage by Emoh as a surprise guest. Fans were floored when Emoh mentioned ”this is a brand new one with RL and Skrill.” The track was knowingly in the works since earlier this summer and acts as a spiritual continuation to their first collaboration, “Tell Me”, back in 2014, although without the inclusion of Sonny.
Check out the Halloween mix below.
What was an original acoustic cover of Fetty Wap’s Ubiquitous ‘Trap Queen’ by Will Gittens is now given an electronic makeover by Enzo Bennett. The result is a smooth, level headed take on the hit. The interpolation is a far cry from the certifiable banger levels of the original, but that’s the point – it’s a marvelous interpretation. Enzo is a French producer still cutting his teeth in the scene. He’s been picked up by deadmau5’s Mau5Trap label, where his last release, ‘Naga’, lives.

Those 6 seconds videos that we all come to love are going to be a thing the past because Vine is shutting down.
The company decides to close its doors following a steep decline in popularity over the last year thanks to the rise Snapchat. Since around 2013, Vine gave rise to many stars including pop-rap duo Jack & Jack and many others who went viral making six seconds video clips. We will sure miss those endless loops funny videos and females twerking.
In a message posted on the company website, Team Vine & Twitter announced that the old videos will not be deleted and the website will not be taken down, they will just put a pause on the service. Which opens up the door for Vine to make a comeback or do a complete revamp the app.
In the end seems Vine couldn’t compete with the likes Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat who found creative ways to share videos.
Kris Connor/Getty sPusha T recently sat down with Senator and Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine at the Liberty City block party in Miami, Florida to talk about several key issues affecting Americans today, including the criminal justice system.
A video clip the conversation was posted to Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton‘s YouTube channel.
“My biggest concern is the criminal justice system. We’re definitely on the same page, in regards to knowing that it’s flawed and it needs to be fixed,” said Pusha.
“There’s a lot reforms that are necessary,” responded Kaine. “There’s policing reforms to make sure that we have communities where everybody respects the law, but people have to be respected by the law too. That’s really important and in some our communities that’s not the case,” he added.
Pusha also brought up the topic moving forward in a country where systemic racism appears to remain in place, to which Kaine replied, “There’s just more progress to achieve, but we keep moving forward.”
The politician also detailed his ticket’s plans for education, which include a proposal to make college tuition affordable and debt-free in various circumstances.
“We want to expand early childhood education and then we want to make higher education more affordable. We want to make college debt-free for everybody. If your family makes less than $125,000 a year and then if you’re already out college, we want to help people be able to re-finance their debt,” said Kaine.
Kaine also answered Pusha T’s question about health-care reform.
“We’re gonna keep what’s working and then we will find ways to improve how we cover people and the cost health insurance,” he said.
In the end, Pusha T urged people to vote, saying, “We need to be heard. Voting is the best way to express that vote.”
