A$AP Rocky Is The Victim Of Serious Human Rights Violations

A$AP Rocky’s arrest has been upsetting for a variety reasons. Not only did footage clearly point to an act self-defense, but reports his sordid jail conditions have made matters all the more troubling. Yesterday, TMZ issued a disturbing report on the facilities where Rocky is being held. Apparently, Flacko has been forced to sleep on a yoga mat without blankets, all while a nearby prisoner takes to throwing feces. With inedible food and water, Rocky has been resigned to an apple a day.

TMZ also notes that a clear violation the Vienna Convention for Consular Relations has transpired, making the situation all the more dubious. As the treaty states, when a United States citizen is arrested on foreign soil, he or she must be granted a meeting with a U.S. Consulate. Apparently, when Rocky requested the meeting, the Consulate was denied access by Swedish authorities. That in itself is a massive human rights violation, especially given the suspected reason put forth by the publication’s findings: the Consulate believes that the conditions are so deplorable, the Swedish authorities refused the meeting as a precaution. While the Consulate was eventually granted access to Rocky two days later, they were unable to have a private meeting, being shadowed by a pair Swedish guards.

At this point, one has to wonder what’s going to happen to Flacko. Should they indeed let him walk at the end his two-week detainment, what was the point this macabre dog-and-pony show? And worse, if they do decide to move forward with the charges, what’s stopping them from throwing the book at the rapper, whom they’ve already failed to treat with basic human decency. Awareness this predicament has never been more important, and while a few boycott ideas have been thrown around Twitter, the spotlight needs to be turned to max intensity.

Considering the clear violations human rights going on, you’d expect many the major news outlets to be raising awareness for Rocky’s plight. Yet aside from the music-based publications, many news outlets have neglected to shine a light on the situation. CNN reported about it on July 3rd, in a story that covered his initial detainment. MSNBC has yet to cover the story at all. You already know Fox News didn’t say anything. The New York Times did their due diligence to an extent, but the Wall Street Journal hasn’t said a peep. At the end the day, all signs point to a severe injustice being done to an American citizen who acted out in self-defense, who is currently facing the possibility six years in a Swedish prison. We almost lost Gangsta Gibbs to this business. Let’s not lose another one.

A$AP Rocky Living In Deplorable Jail Conditions: Report

Friends and family A$AP Rocky are doing their best to fight for the rapper’s freedom, but he remains in a Swedish jail. Rocky’s arrest and incarceration stem from a recent incident where the rapper was visiting Sweden and was walking the streets with his entourage. The group was stalked and harassed by two men who not only became violent and threw headphones at one Rocky’s security guards, but also continued to grab and grope at the group as they attempted, and failed, to dodge the two men.

Eventually, the incident became physical and one the two men was beaten. He was reportedly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, and even though there is video footage showing Rocky saying he doesn’t want problems and trying to avoid confrontation, he was taken into custody. There have been reports that he will be held for two weeks, and friend A$AP Ferg shared on social media that Rocky is facing six years in prison for defending himself.

TMZ claims that they have information regarding the jail where Rocky is being held. According to the outlet, the facility is intolerable as there is human waste strewn about and inedible food and water for inmates. The publication reports that Rocky has only had one apple to eat per day. In the meantime, rappers have banded together for a call to boycott Sweden. Free A$AP Rocky.

João Gilberto, the Father of Bossa Nova, Passes Away at 88

Beloved Brazilian musician João Gilberto has passed away. He was 88 years old.

Gilberto’s family members and friends confirmed the unfortunate news. The acclaimed performer, who many referred to as ‘O Mito’ (The Legend), was found in need of medical assistance at his Rio de Janeiro apartment. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was soon pronounced dead.

Gilberto’s wife was by his side when he passed, per a statement from Gilberto’s lawyer. At this stage, the cause of death remains unknown, though Gilberto was 88.

The expansive career of João Gilberto began in 1950 when the Bahia-born musician signed a major record deal. After that, the pioneer of bossa nova released over 35 albums and performed in destinations around the globe. He received numerous awards and honors, including Latin Grammys, a spot in the International Latin Music Hall of Fame, and an honorary doctorate from Columbia University.

Gilberto remained musically active until a decade or so before his death, when his health began to decline.

João Gilberto is survived by three children, including Bebel Giberto, who has enjoyed a successful music career of her own. She played Eva in the first two Rio films (with her part in the third series entry confirmed). Gilberto’s funeral took place at the Rio de Janeiro Municipal Theater on the afternoon of July 8th.

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro received a bit of criticism for what some believed was an unsympathetic acknowledgment of Giberto’s passing. Bolsonaro is conservative, and though João Gilberto was mostly apolitical, some of his statements and stances did contradict those of President Bolsonaro.

It’s never easy to cope with the passing of musicians whose works have brought joy to many, but the good news — the positive — is that Gilberto’s songs will continue to be enjoyed for many, many additional years. In this way, he will never leave his fans.

Lil Nas X’s "Old Town Road" Is Now The #1 Song In The Country For 14 Weeks Straight

It’s going to be hard for Lil Nas X to top the success “Old Town Road.” The song’s become the biggest record the year, and at this point, is inching towards being the biggest song the millennium so far. Billboard’s initial decision to nix the song from the Country charts helped create a larger buzz for the song which helped it soar to the top the Billboard Hot 100. It’s been an inescapable song ever since and now, it continues its stretch at the top the Billboard Hot 100 for yet another week.

Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” has now spent 14 weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 straight. The single earned its 14th week this week which now ties it with Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk” with Bruno Mars and “I Got A Feeling” by the Black Eyed Peas for longest consecutive streak at #1 in the past 10 years. If the song manages to land two more weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100, “Old Town Road” will tie Mariah Carey & Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day” and Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito” ft. Justin Bieber for longest-leading #1 record on the Hot 100’s history.

Lil Nas X recently released his EP which included his hit single with Billy Ray Cyrus as well as “Rodeo” with Cardi B. Cardi recently bought out Lil Nas X during her set at Wireless Festival in the U.K.

Raptors Superfan Honors Kawhi Leonard With Touching IG Post

Kawhi Leonard was the missing piece the Toronto Raptors needed in order to take home their first NBA championship. Leonard cemented himself as one the best players in the league while on the Raptors and with the help Danny Green, they were able to win it all. Unfortunately for Raptors fans, Leonard announced over the weekend that he would be signing with the Los Angeles Clippers, while Danny Green revealed he would become a member the Los Angeles Lakers. This was especially heartbreaking new for Nav Bhatia, the Raptors superfan who became famous during their run through the postseason.

Bhatia took to Instagram yesterday where he thanked Leonard and Green for their service to the team.

Per @navbhatiasuperfan:

“To both them: you will both be missed. The heart you both played with. How you both embraced this city, this country and all the fans. The highlights you gave us that will be etched forever in our memories…that game 7 shot, that steal from lowry and following dunk, the many clutch 3’s, the 18 points in game 3, the comeback defence, so many memories.”

While Bhatia might be sad that it’s over, at least he was able to experience such an incredible championship run from his team. Very few people in Toronto seem to be mad at Kawhi’s decision which just goes to show how appreciative they are what he was able to accomplish.

DaBaby Impresses In His 2019 Freshman Freestyle & Interview

One the strongest albums to have released this year came from DaBaby. The North Carolina spitter made his grand introduction to the world with Baby On Baby, which put a lot people onto his original style rapping. He was considered one the shoo-ins for this year’s XXL Freshman list and, as expected, he was named to the class a few weeks ago. He joins Blueface, Megan Thee Stallion, Tierra Whack, and other rookies on this year’s iteration and finally, the first freestyle session from the respected group has arrived.

DaBaby starts f the festivities with his freestyle today, spitting for just over a minute and coming through with some memorable bars. His approach is generally pretty braggadocious, telling his haters that he can’t quite think somebody who can flow exactly like him. He goes on to state that “hoes go crazy” when his song comes on, revelling over the success “Suge.” As the owner one the biggest rap songs in the country, Baby is on an upward trajectory. He spoke about his unique approach to music in his interview, speaking about how he’s bringing the street sound back to hip-hop through his Charlotte upbringing.

Trey Songz Snaps At Fans Asking Who His Son’s Mother Is

When Trey Songz posted a photo himself holding a newborn baby’s foot a few weeks ago, fans were curious to find out what was happening. Was Trey a new father or was he simply embracing one his friend’s children? It turned out that Trey had indeed welcomed his first baby boy into the world, announcing the news to the world and revealing his name to his fans. “My son Noah. We are blessed and overjoyed. Peace,” wrote the singer on social media. The following weeks have been all about Trey and his son with the artist sharing moments they have together all over his pages. On the latest photo the tyke, several fans urged Trey to reveal the identity his baby mama, to which he vehemently refused by clapping back ferociously.

“Who is Noah’s mom.. we needa talk,” wrote one woman in the comments section. Trey Songz saw that and decided to get a little snippy in his reply, informing the fan that it likely wasn’t the best idea to slide into the comments at all. “Noah’s mom and you don’t have shit to talk about,” wrote Trey. “And the rest y’all either mind ya fuckin business.”

A note for anybody trying to gauge information out Trey Songz in his comments: don’t even try. He will clap back at you with a pretty fierce reply.

Mariah Carey Has The Best Bottle Cap Challenge Watch

The latest craze to have taken social media by storm this year is the Bottle Cap Challenge, which sees competitors vying to remove the cap from a bottle in the most creative way possible. So far, we’ve seen Swae Lee complete the challenge with Justin Bieber entering his own submission overnight by calling out Tom Cruise a second time. The winner the fight has already been crowned though and the Queen is no other than Mariah Carey.

Sharing her own Bottle Cap Challenge video this weekend, Mariah Carey turned on diva mode when she decided that she would remove the cap from its bottle using the sheer force her vocals. Unlike her counterparts, Mimi did not kick the cap loose. Instead, she used her powerful, vibrant voice to remove the seal from a bottle champagne, leaving her entire audience stunned and astounded. How can one woman have such a strong range that she can literally get a bottle cap out its bottle using only her vocal cords? The mere thought that is insane.

Mariah Carey is a generational talent and she’s somebody that isn’t celebrated nearly enough. Watch her video below and let us know if you think anybody can top her submission to the challenge.

Trippie Redd Confirms New EP With Playboi Carti Will Arrive "Sooner" Than We Think

This past Thursday, we reported that 19 year-old Texan, Iann Dior, had employed the help “Topanga” rapper, Trippie Redd, for his new single “Gone Girl.” Redd took to Instagram to share news the brand new track alongside the cover art for the single, “me and my bro @ianndior gunna be applying pressure for a lot more years to come,” he wrote in the caption. “COMMENT ‘gone’ if u want us to release a EP together.” But one fan was not too impressed, commenting with his preference for another collab idea, saying: “Nah we want that EP with Carti first.” Probably not even expecting a response from the Ohio rapper, Redd surprisingly actually did reply, and we’re sure his response left the fan more pleased than he could’ve foreseen.

“Sooner than later,” Redd responded. Fans Carti will surely be delighted to hear the news, as the 22 year-old Atlanta native has been pretty lowkey in terms his musical releases lately, not counting the few songs his which were mysteriously leaked on his Apple Music page, or the song he collaborated on with Tyler, The Creator“Earfquake” for Tyler’s IGOR album back in May. But, seeing as recent rumours have us believing the young rapper has recently gotten engaged to his girlfriend some time, Iggy Azalea, he could just be occupying a little bit more his time with his new fiancé.

La La Anthony Kicks Off City Girl Summer With PSA On Not Needing A Man

Despite being reportedly devastated over the news that her man Carmelo Anthony was cheating on her (again), it appears La La Anthony has recently made a statement her own. We previously reported on heavy speculations Carmelo cheating after photos popped up not long ago showing the former basketball players chilling with a woman on a yacht in France. Many speculated that Carmelo was cheating on his wife La La although he quickly hit up TMZ so he could deny all the rumors. Either way, things quickly unravelled after new reports emerged and indicated that La La was in “legal discussions” to figure out the next steps with Carmelo and the latter heavily hinted at a permanent split. Nevertheless, we only could rely on reports for now until a recent event gave us a bit insight into the situation. In fact, La La made quite a statement at a club appearance lately.

Prior to kicking f the now platinum-certified hit-single “Act Up” by the City Girls, the former radio personality turned actress introduced the song and threw slight shade at her man: “All my ladies who don’t give a f*ck bout a n*gga make some noise,” she starts in the clip above. “I really don’t though,” she giggles, throwing slight shade. Now we’re pretty sure that is a statement that certainly won’t go unnoticed. City girls summer activated.

Interview: YFN Lucci Talks The Evolution Of Southern Hip Hop

New York, NY – The Golden Mixtape Era owes nearly its entire existence to DJ Drama. Thanks to his uber-successful Gangsta Grillz mixtape series, Drama — who started the best-of music series on the streets of Atlanta, long before the Internet was even a thing — helped single-handedly define the “Southern Hip Hop” sound. Certainly, Atlanta’s rebranding as a hotbed for pure Black talent across the creative spectrum owes more than a slight debt to the man born Tyree Simmons.

So it makes sense that YFN Lucci — he of the new guard of so-called Southern Hip Hop — would team up with this legendary hitmaker to release 650Luc, the latest mixtape entry into the Gangsta Grillz series.

“My goal is ‘legendary and longevity,’” the Atlanta native told HipHopDX exclusively. “By this, I mean that not only do I want to be looked at as one of the greatest rappers of all time, but I want to have a long career in the Hip Hop game. You see, I took my time and I put a lot of work into this shit. All the shit that I’ve gone through — all the shit that I’ve done for this project — I worked extremely hard, and for a long time, to make this all pay off. And I’m not going to take it for granted.”

Lucci, better known as Rayshawn Bennett, has certainly done his fair share of “work” over the years. In 2014, when he was just 23 years old, he dropped his first mixtape, Wish Me Well, on Think It’s A Game Entertainment. Just two years later, the follow-up mixtape Wish Me Well 2 hit No. 183 on the Billboard 200 chart, and its premiere single, “Key To The Streets,” peaked at No. 70 on the Billboard Hot 100 (and also featured Migos before the group became as omnipresent as it is today).

It was his lyrical skill that attracted the future rap superstars back in the day, and it’s his continued commitment to quality Hip Hop that attracts the genre’s legends today. Like all of his previous work — and as the Gangsta Grillz mixtape series has done since time immemorial — YFN Lucci’s 650Luc features a veritable who’s who of rap’s chart-toppers, including Fabolous, Young Dolph, Jeezy, and of course, Trey Songz, with whom he’s created a veritable hit with “All Night Long.”

But while any other artist would be overwhelmed by the presence of such a strong cadre of talent, YFN Lucci takes it all in stride, though he noticeably perks up when T.I.’s name is mentioned as both a collaborator and a fan of his music. “You know, these people are people that I’ve listened to for the longest time,” he said. “But it was so interesting to me that I was just able to hit them up and ask them to work with me. T.I., especially, was very receptive — but they all were — and I’m glad to have them on board.”

Following an official visual for “All Night Long” with Trey Songz — which Lucci says is set to drop at the end of August — he’ll be going on a mini-tour in support of his mixtape. Then, he’ll be heading back home to Atlanta to put the finishing touches on his album.

But Lucci also says that we, the listeners, can expect to hear a more evolved sound from him in the coming weeks. “There are a lot of new artists today that are inspired by my sound and my swag,” he said. “I look around, and I see a lot of people today doing what I did so many years ago. And that’s how you know that you’ve evolved as an artist. But you know, the whole scene, the whole sound, has evolved, even over the course of these past five years. And that gives me a lot of hope, as an artist — that I’ll have the ability to grow and evolve with the times.”

Arizona Man Allegedly Murdered Teen Because He Was "Listening To Rap Music"

PEORIA, AZ – In a crime eerily reminscent of murder of Jordan Davis , 17-year-old Elijah Alamin was stabbed Thursday morning outside at a Circle K by 27-year-old Michael Adams because he heard the victim listening to rap music in the parking lot.

According to Fox 10 Phoenix, police say Elijah was inside the store when Adams came from behind and stabbed him.

Once authorities found Adams near the Circle K and noticed a pocket knife and blood on his clothing, he allegedly told detectives “rap music made him feel unsafe because, in the past, he was attacked by people who listened to that music genre.”

Adams reportedly also told detectives that he “needed to be proactive than reactive and protect himself and the community from the victim.”

The purported murder happened two days after the suspect was released from prison and Adams had a history of mental illness. Jacie Cotterell, Adams’ attorney, says that the Arizona Department of Corrections released him without medication or courtesy ride to mental health services despite knowing he had a problem.

The ADC counteracted said in a statement that Adams wasn’t designed as seriously mentally ill and “had no further legal authority over him.”

Cotterell told reporters that Adams shouldn’t get prison but treatment for his illness.

Adams was later charged with one count of first-degree murder. He remains in custody of the Arizona Department of Corrections.

Amazon’s Alexa Still Keeps Your Voice Files After You Delete Them

Despite being a truly ingenious idea which continues to be a great help to folks, Amazon’s Alexa has only managed to raise suspicion amongst many us. We previously reported on the digital voice assistant device recording a couple’s private conversation. Moreover, the same couple reported that the voice-controlled device even laughed at them while they were having a confidential discussion. Evidently, there remain a few things about Alexa that raises the hairs on the skin. And now, reports by HYPEBEAST have only increased the level suspicion surrounding the Amazon product by indicating that the voice assistant still retains your recorded audio files after you delete them. According to the aforementioned news outlet, the news came after the billion dollar company sent a letter to Senator Chris Coons.

Herein, the latter delved into the company’s privacy practices when it comes to Alexa. They addressed the question posed by Coons on how long the company held recordings and transcripts from the Echo. “We retain customers’ voice recordings and transcripts until the customer chooses to delete them.” Yet in another instance, they confirmed that they “do not store the audio  Alexa’s response. However, we may still retain other records customers’ Alexa interactions, including records actions Alexa took in response to the customer’s request.” Croons addressed the urging matter and pressed the company to let users know that “user voice interactions with Alexa are not deleted from all Amazon’s servers, even after a user has deleted a recording his or her voice.” Senator Croons believed it was a service owed to the American people. T.I. Tasked By Atlanta Mayor To Repurpose City’s Jailhouse

Atlanta, GA – T.I. is continuing his work with Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms as part of a 25-member task force employed to repurpose the Atlanta City Detention Center, according to CNN.

On Tuesday (July 2), Bottoms issued a press release explaining the objective is to convert the jail into a “multi-faceted use center for wellness and healing, skills-building, economic mobility and crime prevention.”

She added, “This Task Force reflects strong local leadership, willing to help us progress towards a safer, and just city. It is my hope this building will serve as an epicenter for resources, education, and training for the community.

“With the help of these members, I am optimistic that what is reimagined will be the future of One Atlanta.”
