After more than 56 years, the city of Shreveport has issued a public apology for the way Sam Cooke was treated.
Cooke wrote ‘A Change Is Gonna Come’ after experiencing injustice at the hands of law enforcement and hotel staff.
Mayor Adrian Perkins of Shreveport awarded the late singer with a key to the city at the Let the Good Times Roll Festival on June 22nd. Cooke’s daughter Carla was on hand to accept the award on behalf of her father, thanking the mayor for the honor.
“I’m so honored that Mayor Perkins took the time to do the apology while I was performing at the festival,” she said.
KSLA pieced together an expose on the late singer’s treatment in the area in 1963 and the role that event played in the Civil Rights movement. Despite having a reservation at the hotel, the staff refused to give Cooke and his wife a room. Cooke’s wife tried to calm him down, fearing for his life.
“They’d just as soon lynch you as look at you,” she’s said to have whispered to her husband when the staff refused to give him a room. The crew left for the Castle Hotel but were greeted by four officers who arrested Sam, his wife Barbara, and his manager, Roy Craine.
Seven hours after his release on a $102 bond, Cooke took the stage at the Municipal Auditorium. Charles was arrested again during the concert, and charged with DWI. After experiencing such racism after touring in the South, Cooke wrote of the change he hoped to see.
‘A Change Is Gonna Come’ wasn’t an instant success, but it was Sam Cooke’s biggest hit. Rolling Stone named the song one of the greatest songs of all time in 2005.
“It not only became an anthem for the civil rights movement, but for every social justice movement since.”

It would that appear that Greedo, or more specifically, his closest kin have not received a penny the proceeds from the “Free Greedo” apparel being sold online. The same can be said for the “Drummer Gang” t-shirts that have been circulating. According to the incarcerated rapper, neither source income has resulted in a stipend for his family, as agreed upon.
After speaking on the particulars the “monetary exchange” that is supposed to be in place, 03 Greedo addressed the would-be fenders with a stern message disapproval. In it, he stated that as a result the miscue, “a lot people are getting cut f” at the soonest convenience.
In turn, the Instagram memo has generated a ton fan support, many whom have taken to the #FREE03 hashtag as a shield solidarity. Greedo is currently persisting through a 20-year prison sentence with the possibility parole. Take this as a lesson in intellectual property rights; a child honors a parent, a servant their master.

LaVar Ball won’t be making any more appearances on ESPN, following the comments he made to “First Take” host Molly Qerim during an episode last week. As seen in the footage embedded below, Qerim made a comment about “switching gears” during the interview when Ball replied, “You can switch gears with me any day.”
Ball’s reps later tried to explain that his comments were not meant to be sexual in nature, but he was still been banned from ESPN as a result his actions. Initially, it didn’t appear that anybody had any issues with ESPN’s decision – do we really need to hear what LaVar has to say, anyway?
That is, until free agent wide receiver Dez Bryant threw in his two cents. Bryant took to twitter over the weekend to call out Qerim, saying that she “dramatically overreacted” to the situation. In fact, Dez believes Qerim owes LaVar an apology.
“I’m late but I just seen the ESPN video you and LaVar Ball,” Dez tweeted. “Just being real… You owe that man an apology straight up… I didn’t even sense foul play from him… You dramatically overreacted… Mature women like Doris Burke need those jobs.”
D’Angelo Russell had a breakout season with the Brooklyn Nets this year and is looking to sign a pretty hefty contract in the fseason. Regardless how you feel about his snitching ways, there is no denying that he is an exceptional talent with a ton potential moving forward in his career. Having said that, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Russell is now making appearances at youth basketball camps. What is surprising though, is the savage ways in which he humiliated some the kids over the weekend.
In this recent Twitter video, Russell can be seen going one-on-one against these kids and crossing them out to the point they fall over. Russell then goes on to put the ball in the basket and even hangs in the rim for a few seconds. There is a second clip from another camp where he shoots a three over a kid who just couldn’t keep up defensively.
Both instances demonstrate just how little regard for human life Russell has. We always knew he had no regard for other men’s relationships, but the way he treated these kids is just egregious.
While the treatment is harsh, now these kids will go the rest their lives determined to play great defense which is definitely a positive.
Lil Durk is currently in a legal conundrum as he waits for the proceedings relating to his attempted murder case to unfold. Durk was involved in a drive-by shooting earlier this year and the latter left one man with non-fatal injuries. Existing video footage is believed to have captured Lil Durk allegedly pulling the trigger on a man in February and this was what was keeping the rapper jailed. When he turned himself in, fans did not know what to expect, but he was released out on bond shortly afterward. Though Durkio was forced to follow a court-appointed curfew and wear an ankle monitor.
Unfortunately for Durk, the curfew was set from 11 pm to 7 am and considering a lot artists get their money from late night shows, it is beginning to toy with his bag. According to TMZ, Durk has been getting numerous calls and fers to perform and make appearances, but a lot these are way past his curfew. Although he can only reschedule, for now, it is fair to say the former is playing with his money. Lil Durk usually charges $30k per show hence that is some serious coin to step out on. And his GSP-tracking ankle bracelet also does not allow him to sneak out and attend his shows. Hopefully, the legal scuffle resolves soon so the rapper can get back to the money.
Moments later, Wu-Tang Clan luminary Method Man made an appearance to perform their iconic 1995 duet, “”I’ll Be There for You/You’re All I Need to Get By.” Although it was brief, the crowd erupted with applause as the two industry vets did their thing.
Director and screenwriter Lena Waithe shared some interesting thoughts as late. The creative has been on the rise in the past few years with budding projects in film and television. In an interview with the New York Times, the producer emphasized that the success movies like Moonlight and Get Out stems from the unique and unmatched skill Black creatives, which she believes was ignored for a long time. “I think black people in this industry are making art that is so specific and unique and good that the studio heads have no choice but to throw money at us. They’re saying, ‘How can we support you and stand next to you?’ The tricky part is that they want to be allies and they want to be inclusive, but they also want to make money,” added Waithe.
Waithe believes it all comes back to money and the creative encouraged Black folks in the industry to invest their coins to spread the wealth and finance smaller projects. “And don’t get me started on black financiers! How many those do we have? I’m not going to name] names because I know better, but there are some very big black movie stars out there, and they could pay for two or three or even five small independent movies to get made by black directors and black writers.” Waithe’s comments were met by either support or rivalry on social media. While some encouraged the investment Black dollars into Black movies, others condemned the creator The Chi and emphasized that folks should be able to spend their money wherever they want. Some even brought in the recent controversy surrounding Lena Waithe’s show The Chi and the sexual assault allegations tied to its recurring actor, Jason Mitchell.
The final Netflix/Marvel show has taken its final bow. Jessica Jones is the last Marvel show on Netflix to air, after all five series were canceled. Iron Fist was the first to get the ax, then Luke Cage, Daredevil, and The Punisher followed. Krysten Ritter did an immaculate job bringing the stubborn and moody Jones to life, fering a complex take on the superpowered detective. Now that the third and final season has aired, one lingering question remains. Will Hulu or another streaming service save any the Netflix/Marvel shows? If so, can we expect to see Ritter as Jones again? She doesn’t think so.
“Do I think I’ll play her again? I don’t think so,” Ritter told TVLine. “I feel like I’ve played her, you know? I feel really good about it. I feel good about closing the door.” Ritter has expressed her love for Jessica Jones, but also her need to switch things up. Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg echoed Ritter’s views, stating, “I feel like this is a really complete, closed chapter. I mean, never say never. But I feel ready to tell all new stories.” With Disney launching their own streaming service later this year, it’s unlikely that Netflix’s Marvel shows will be continued.
Although Marvel has yet to announce the line-up for their slate Phase 4 movies, everyone is aware that Black Widow is currently filming. It’s hard to keep anything a complete secret these days, especially with the amount Marvel fans in each country. Black Widow is busy filming outside the country, but still, photos from the set taken by curious on-lookers keep hitting the web. A recent leaked set photo appears to reveal a new hero that will be entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Black Widow will star Scarlett Johansson and Florence Pugh, the latter which appears in an undisclosed role. Her role has now been discerned. The leaked set photos show a shot Johansson and Pugh’s characters riding a bike, but the lifelike heroes are actually dummies being used for an action sequence. The dummies look real, but what is more intriguing is the boxes they came in. One box in labeled “Natasha” for Black Widow while the other is labeled “Yelena.”
For those who may not read the comic books, Yelena is a spy that takes on the mantle Black Widow when Natasha steps down from the role. They start f as enemies, but become close friends. It is possible that the MCU is setting things up to introduce a new Black Widow to replace Natasha since she died in Avengers: Endgame.
If you noticed you’ve got some fresh horn-like growths growing on your head, you should probably give your doctor a call. However, you’re likely not alone because according to a new report, young people around the world are developing growths on their skulls and it’s all because the way they’re holding their cell phones.
There’s a pretty decent chance that you’re reading this article right now on your phone. If you are, pay attention because you don’t wanna wake up in the morning looking like an antelope. The Washington Post is reporting that more and more people are complaining about their skulls forming incorrectly, leaving youths with bumps on their heads. If you were curious and wanted to see people walking around with devil horns implanted on their temples, you’ll be disappointed because the growths are actually near the back the skull. The reported reason why this is happening was medically explained in the original report. “Bone spurs are] caused by the forward tilt the head, which shifts weight from the spine to the muscles at the back the head, causing bone growth in the connecting tendons and ligaments.”
Apparently, bone growth can be halted by simply improving your posture. So, if you’re one the people who’s got horns on your skull, sit straight and spend less time on your phone if you can.
The moral the story is that if you’re always on your phone, fix your posture! You don’t want to wake up with spikes on your head…
The Game was quick to remind a TMZreporter that America was built on the backs slaves when asked about reparations. Although the nation acknowledges that America prospered due to hundreds years free labor, it has been impossible for politicians to find a proper replacement for the once promised 40 acres and a mule. Although reparations are highly unlikely, Democrats with their eye on the 2020 election are using the idea reparations to stir up the press and earn votes. Talk reparations have bounced around Congress for decades without any real progress on the topic. The Game believes he has found the answer though.
“It look like 40 acres and a Lamborghini,” answers The Game when asked what reparations should look like in 2019. From there, the Compton rapper begins to speak on politics. When asked if he would vote for a politician that fered 40 acres and a Lamborghini, Game thinks for a minute before barking, “I don’t even think I can vote, I’m a felon bro.” He then devotes himself to the idea allowing felons who have served their time to vote, which is allowed in some places in the US. While it’s unlikely Congress will find a resolution to reparations anytime soon, I think they should at least consider The Game’s idea. Couldn’t hurt.

“I did meet the love my life sooner than I’d planned and kind thought I was going to in my life,” she continued. “In my mind, I thought I would be single for four years, and I met him actually when my son was 10 months old. And that was a very special moment because he came into our lives and was ready to love the both us with everything. He was changing diapers. When our son — I say our son — when Baby] Future made his first steps, he was just as excited as I was. God is good because I really didn’t know that would happen. I really was like, ‘I’m gonna be single for four years. I’m sitting still. I’m gonna just be still for a second. Lemme just figure this out.’ And he came in our lives way sooner than I even thought would happen.”
“Once you have a child, the level responsibility just goes up to a whole ‘nother level,” she said. “There’s no room to experiment. I’m not experimenting with my son’s life. That’s how I was looking at it.”
Ciara and Future’s romance initially sparked sometime in 2012 or 2013 after working together. They got each other’s initials inked and by October 2013, they were engaged.
