ZHU made his Coachella debut this past weekend, and while the enigmatic producer’s live appearances are few and far between, his set was undoubtedly one of the most highly-anticipated performances of Coachella’s first weekend. Taking on a primetime Saturday evening slot, ZHU pushed his brooding blend of house and hip-hop from the biggest stage he’s played yet.
ZHU’s opening sequence perfectly captured the mystique of his performance. Shrouding the Sahara tent in a moody, dark ambiance, ZHU introduced himself with a dreamy, cinematic cut, before laying down a hit-filled set with tracks like his Skrillex-assisted “Working For It,” to “In The Morning,” and an obligatory “Faded.” Eerie, funky, and inescapable all at once, ZHU’s aesthetic introduced a new level of depth to the electronic programming at the festival.
