Kenya Barris is the praised writer known for his hit series Black-ish, Grown-ish, Mixed-ish and the film Girls Trip. Black-ish, that follows a black family navigating their everyday life together living in a beautiful neighbourhood and home is loosely based on Kenya’s life – marriage troubles and all. The Hollywood Reporter now details how Kenya has filed for divorce from his wife 20 years, Dr. Rania “Rainbow” Barris.

Kenya has previously spoken about the importance portraying marital issues in his series, reflecting on times he’d watch sitcoms when he was younger.

“When I was growing up, I never saw couples fight on the family sitcoms I loved to watch,” he said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “Subsequently, when tough times arose in my own relationship, I wasn’t prepared and felt so isolated and alone. Marital issues weren’t a part the narrative that television told me was a ‘working relationship.’”

Mick Jenkins’ "The Waters" Mixtape Turns 5: Stay Hydrated

There are few writers in hip-hop as eloquent as Mick Jenkins. Those who abide by the art lyricism are likely well-aware Mick’s pen game, unique in its poetical nature, at once geek-friendly, introspective, and brutally honest. Last year, he declared that nobody could come for him except Kendrick with a convincing degree authenticity. Though perhaps a little too obscure within the greater mainstream zeitgeist, Mick remains exactly the sort artist that could one day enter a Pulitzer conversation, should he continue to push himself to daring creative heights.

For many, their introduction to Mick Jenkins arrived alongside The Waters, which celebrates its fifth birthday on this very day.  Though Mick had been steadily gaining traction f the strength his Trees & Truths tape, The Waters made for his introduction into the mainstream eye. With production from a trusted collective THEMPEOPLE, High Klassified, Statik Selektah, OnGuad, DJ Dahi, Kirk Knight, and Dream Koala, The Waters featured an appropriately lush soundscape, moving from hard-hitting to romantic to introspective at a moment’s notice. And while the instrumentation helped bring the album’s character to life, Mick’s pen deserves no shortage credit in that department.

Songs like “Jazz,” the 5 Pound Media-shot “Martyrs,” “514,” the Joey Bada$$-assisted “Jerome,” “Black Sheep,” and the genuinely sweet “Healer,” Mick carries himself with the gravitas a leading man. From punchlines to immersive reflections self, Jenkins can and does deliver both sides his persona with conviction. In truth, The Water(s) has aged incredibly well, sounding crisp and lyrically dense in the best possible way. If you have yet to check out one this decade’s essential mixtapes, in Mick’s own words, “don’t lack.”

Adult Film Actress Pleads Guilty To Hiring Hitman To Kill Baby Daddy

A porn actress spent her 32nd birthday behind bars but that will likely be the first many trips around the sun that she’ll spend locked up. Porn actress Katrina Lynn Danforth admitted to the court that she put a hit on the father her children. Danforth, who’s from Idaho, pleaded guilty to illegal use interstate commerce in order to hire a hitman.

Although it’s unclear why she placed a hit on her baby daddy, she told the court that she found a hitman to kill a man who was listed in the plea agreement as R.H. Her plans to have her husband murdered were done through an acquaintance who connected her with the hitman. But there was a major twist in her plans — the man she hired as a hitman was actually an undercover police ficer.

From there, the police ficer began to crack down on her plans slowly. The plea agreement detailed the instructions to him which stated that “she had specific requirements that the hitman was to accomplish.” Clearly, she didn’t have much remorse about murdering him or anyone around him. She asked him to make sure the body was easily found and that she also “did not care if others who lived in the home were harmed,” aside from her own child.

As she continued to plot on R.H.’s death, Danforth sent the ficer $2,500 and a thank you card as a “down payment for the hit.” The $2,500 was half the money she owed for the hit.

Danforth’s sentencing is set to take place on December 2nd.

Jadakiss’ Debut Album "Kiss Tha Game Goodbye" Remains Essential

There’s no middle ground here. Either Jadakiss‘ 2001 debut album Kiss Tha Game Goodbye is a universal and undisputable classic or an underrated, integral piece the New York hip-hop canon. It’s only a matter perspective. For those who grew up during an era where The Lox and the Ruff Ryders were gaining traction through releases like We Are The Streets and Ryde Or Die Vol 1, Jadakiss no stranger. Alongside like-minded emcees Styles P and Sheek Louch, Jada blessed the masses with some the hardest lyricism out, beginning a run that would slide him into Top 5 Dead Or Alive contention for years to come. When he first announced his introductory solo project at the onset the millennium, many were curious to see how the raspy-voiced rapper would fare on the major stage.

With production from Swizz Beatz, Timbaland, The Neptunes, DJ Premier, PK, Just Blaze, The Alchemist, and more, Kiss Tha Game Goodbye served as a welcome showcase Jada’ unexpected versatility. It doesn’t take long to seize attention. Off the bat, Jada’s street pedigree held steadfast on the back-to-back assault “Jada’s Got A Gun” and personal highlight “Show Discipline;” the latter finds Kiss going bar for bar with Nas, bodying the ominous instrumental with his signature brand unfazed violence. “Never will it stop, handguns with double-digit shots,” spits Jada, in the introductory bars. “I move work on other n***s blocks.”

Another incredible tandem occurs shortly thereafter, with “We Gon’ Make It” and the chilling Lox collaboration “None Of Ya’ll Better.” Tonally, the pair capture some Jada’s favored aesthetic, representing his “comfort zone” for the day one fans. Plus, is the latter not DJ Premier’s darkest beat ever? That in itself is worth noting. Even when Jada flips the script on the Timbland-produced “Nasty Girl” and the west-coast inspired, Snoop Dogg blessed “Cruisin,” his vivid brand storytelling and effortless flow keep the album moving at a dynamic pace. That’s not to say there aren’t missteps on occasion – “On My Way” and “Fuckin’ Or What” feels like it could have been a “one-or-the-other” type deal – but Kiss Tha Game Goodbye moves into its conclusive stages ready to fire on all cylinders.

To say it ends with a bang feels apropos. We’ve got a Ruff Ryders posse cut with “It’s Time I See You,” followed directly by the project’s hardest-hitting, Southern-homage “What You Ride For?” “Feel Me” finds Jadakiss at his most personal, while “We Gon Make It” proves that inspirational hip-hop doesn’t have to be hampered by cheese. By the time Kiss Tha Game Goodbye concludes at a healthy seventy-six minutes, it somehow feels like Jadakiss is only getting started. The relic a simpler time, Kiss’ debut is one those rare gems that has aged particularly well, gaining even more a following with every passing year. Today, on its eighteenth birthday, why not take a moment to celebrate an integral piece work from one the best lyricists our time?

Jennifer Lopez Didn’t Drive A Car For 20 Years Before Porsche Birthday Gift

Last week Jennifer Lopez turned 50-years-old and without a doubt partied hard for her 50th year that will surely bring about as much success as her 49th year. Her fiance Alex Rodriguez struggled with getting her a birthday gifted so opted for something classic that will likely just grow in value over time and it’s none other than a Porsche. The catch is that JLo hasn’t driven a car in over 20 years, but her streak ended with she got handed new car keys for her born day.

You have to be creative.”

He added: “We’ve been talking about maybe a car. The irony is we’re gonna buy her a car but she hasn’t driven in 25 years.”

Jennifer took a stroll around her Miami block and as it looks, driving a car can be like riding a bike when it comes to muscle memory.

We’re reporting on some good news today. A Louisana man was recently released from prison Thursday, June 27th after serving more than 17 years in jail for a crime he did not commit. Royal Clark Jr.’s road to exoneration commenced after a New Orleans Innocence Project took his case and convinced the Jefferson Parish district attorney’s fice to re-examine the incriminating fingerprint evidence in his case. According to reports from, the IPNO filed a motion to have Clark’s conviction thrown out after he was proven innocent. A Judicial District Court Judge by the name Donald Rowan vacated the conviction after a short hearing on Thursday.

Clark walked out Lousiana’s Angola prison exactly a day after his 42nd birthday and was greeted by his mother, father, sister, and his son. Clark was wrongfully convicted back in 2001 after eyewitness falsely identified him as the suspect in a Burger King robbery. The guilty verdict was handed down when Clark turned 25. Although Clark maintained his innocence throughout the trial and during his time in jail, it was only through the Innocence Project that he was able to acquire the justice he deserved. The organization asked the D.A. to take another look at the fingerprint found on a cup used by the suspect prior to the robbery and it led back to the DNA Jessie Perry, a 54-year-old man serving a 30-year sentence in prison.

Lesandro "Junior" Guzman-Feliz Murder: All Five Defendants Found Guilty

The five defendants that were accused horrific slaying 15-year-old boy Junior Guzman-Feliz have been found guilty on all counts. A Bronx jury convicted all five men on all counts including first-degree murder, second-degree murder, second-degree conspiracy and second-degree gang assault. Jonaiki Martinez Estrella, who prosecutors said was the one that fatally stabbed him in the neck, is among the five men convicted Guzman-Feliz’ death. Prosecutors said video surveillance revealed Martinez Estrella as the culprit who actually murdered the Guzman-Feliz.

Junior’s murder case gained national attention last year after the video footage emerged online. Bronx natives such as Cardi B and Jennifer Lopez called for his justice. His horrifying murder video surfaced online which showed Guzman-Felix getting dragged out a Bodega before being attacked with a machete. The murder Guzman-Felix was the case a mistaken identity. The defendants, who were identified as members the Trinitarios subset “Los Sures,” believed Junior, who police said has no gang ties whatsoever, was a member a rival gang. Unfortunately, by the time they realized they had the wrong person it was too late.

Following Junior’s murder, the NYPD launched a scholarship in his name. Bathgate Ave. and 183rd Street, the corner where he was murdered, was renamed “Lesandro Junior Guzman-Feliz Way” in February on his mother’s birthday.

21 Savage Shares What It Was Like Being Detained By ICE

Whether he’s singing ’90s R&B slow jams in his Instagram videos or cranking out trap hits that top the charts, there is an undeniable appeal to 21 Savage. Fans thought they knew everything about the 26-year-old rapper, but when he was arrested earlier this year by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) while driving around Atlanta, it came as a surprise that he wasn’t the ATL star that everyone thought. We learned that the British-born artist was accused overstaying his Visa and was taken into custody, a move that prompted many to question whether or not he was targeted because his philanthropic and community building moves with his charity, the “21 Savage Bank Account Campaign.”

The rapper covers the latest issue  Paper magazine where they detail Savage’s experience and legal hurdles surrounding his arrest. Savage was advised by his counsel not to go into speak about his troubles, but the Issa Album hitmaker did talk about what it was like being separated from his family.

“I didn’t see my kids for almost two weeks,” 21 says his time in detainment. “There are people in detention centers just sitting for months and even years not being able to see their families. Then some those people just end up being sent f overnight to a place they ain’t never really lived and they don’t ever see their family after that.”

Savage has endured quite a bit during his short life on earth, including being shot six times on his 21st birthday back in 2013. His best friend was also shot during the incident, but he didn’t make it out alive. “I stay focused on moving forward and not letting stuff put me in a hole or make me feel depressed,” he says the tragedy. “I don’t really dwell, but I think about the people I’ve lost. At the same time, I think the moments I had with them versus them not being there.”

Check out more from Savage’s Paper interview here.

Colin Farrell Was Once So Hungover It Took 56 Takes To Say One Line

Colin Farrell has been sober for many years now but before his days staying clear drugs and alcohol, he would party real hard. For Colin’s 25th birthday he, course, turned up and tried to get out a shooting day for 2002’s Minority Report on June 1st, he told  UK Mirror. The producers and directors didn’t seem to care too much, forcing Colin to head to work quite hungover.

“I thought a $100 million film would at least listen to that request … but I worked. It was a rough night and I didn’t get any sleep,” he explained. “The line was, ‘I’m sure you’ve all grasped the fundamental paradoxical pre-crime methodology.’”

Colin says he remembers the line now because “it caused so much panic and anxiety. It should be on my tombstone.” Apparently, on that particular day, Colin’s sister came to watch him at work and had to walk out after he was having such trouble remembering his line. “She had to leave the set after 56 takes,” he added. “I was a disaster.”

Colin headed to rehab in 2005 after previously admitting that he’d “basically been drunk or high” since he was 14.

Dame Dash Accused Of Drug Use Around Children By Rachel Roy In Custody Battle

The custody battle between Dame Dash and his ex-wife Rachel Roy continues to unravel.

It was in April that the music mogul filed a request for more custodial time for his 11-year-old daughter, Tallulah, one two children that Dash shares with Roy. According to Dame, a less demanding work schedule allowed for more time to see his child, going on to allege that he feared that Roy’s alleged excessive drinking could pose a risk to Tallulah’s life.

The Blastreports that Dame Dash cites an incident at a Christmas party last year when his ex became “very intoxicated to the point she could not drive herself or our daughter” back home.

Dash goes on to assert that his current wife eventually drove Roy and Tallulah home. According to Dash, if he had not been at the party, he fears that Roy would have tried to drive under the influence with their daughter in the car. The filing includes text message screenshots where Roy appears to apologize for the evening’s circumstances.

In response to the filing, Roy allegedly filed her own complaints against Dash, arguing that the current custody deal should remain intact as Dash has demonstrated abusive and negligent behavior around Tallulah and the couple’s older daughter, 19-year-old Ava. She alleges that Dash smokes marijuana around their children and that he once shamed Tallulah for not getting him a birthday gift.

Roy suggests that Dash attend anger management courses in her filing. In addition, Ava Dash has also filed court documents in which she asserts that she is fearful her father due to his drug and alcohol use.

Dame’s response is that he has tried to “rehabilitate” his past.

Future Gives 5 Year Old Son A Rolex For His Birthday & People Are Confused

Remember when you were a kid, and were blessed with those presents you would long for now but seemed useless back then? This may be one those instances. Future took to social media to show the world his expensive birthday gift for his son Baby Future, and the internet is confused. Future bought his son a new Rolex, and in the video, Baby Future gives one those nonchalant “thanks” that kids give adults when they’re just being polite. It didn’t seem like he cared about the fancy watch, and why should he. He’s five. Although this is a gift that will mature with Baby Future and undoubtedly be a prized possession once he gets older, Future could have just copped the watch when his son was older. At least, that’s how the internet feels.

The general consensus is that Baby Future probably just wanted some toys. Still, the youngen looked like he knew what he was doing when he put the piece on. Maybe we should trust family members to know what’s best for their child and leave them be? DJ Khaled blessed his infant son with a luxurious watch for his birthday as well, maybe it’s a trend for wealthy families.

Young Thug Says The Phrase "Clout Chasing" Is Dead: "You Really Bullying A N***a"

Thugger is calling for the term “clout chasing” to die a miserable death, as the rapper recently expressed his dislike for the phrase. Young Thug uploaded a series video clips on his Instagram Story where he shared his thoughts about how people are misusing “clout chasing.” The 27-year-old rapper says that the people being accused “clout chasing” may actually be inspired by someone, so calling them anything less is a form bullying.

“Y’all n*ggas who are firm believers in that ‘clout chasing’ word…let me tell y’all buster asses something,” Thugger begins. “Stop saying a n*gga clout chasing. That’s some bullying sh*t. You really bullying a n*gga. Some n*ggas don’t even be clout chasing. Some n*ggas be inspired by sh*t they see. All that ‘Aw, n*ggas wanna stand behind rappers.’ This n*gga might look up to me…he might be inspired by me. The way I got-damn carry myself, n*gga. This n*gga wanna get some money and carry himself the same way.”

He continues, “I’m doing this sh*t for all the right reasons. Y’all fake bully asses some b*tches anyway. Every n*gga running around talking about clout chasing, y’all n*ggas b*tches.” He goes on to say that he’s ending the term altogether. “Every n*gga that say that clout chasing word, y’all n*gga lames. Clout chasing, that word gone. From now on, ain’t no such thing as clout chasing. ‘Cause I damn sure run behind Jay Z but I know I ain’t no clout chasing n*gga. I’m rich as a motherf*cker. So all that clout chasing, y’all n*ggas b*tches.” Should the world shun the term “clout chasing” from now on?
