We’re halfway through 2019 and there have already been some record-breaking music moments that have gone down in history. As we approach the hot, summer months, artists are sure to crank out jams that they hope will be a staple throughout the remainder the year, but until then, Billboard‘s staff has compiled their “The 50 Best Songs 2019 (So Far)” list.

Making our way from 50 to number one, here are some noteworthy artists: Mustard and Migos‘ hit song “Pure Water” snagged the 40th spot on the list. Maxo Kream climbed three spots above them at #37 with his track “Meet Again.” Avant-garde artist Tierra Wack continues to shine and her single “Only Child” was placed at #33. DaBaby has certainly had a breakout year in 2019, and his single “Suge” sits at #29. Tyler The Creator’s “I Think” took #22, Kehlani and Ty Dolla $ign‘s “Nights Like This” made it to #14, 21 Savage’s “A Lot” was placed at #12, and  Swae Lee and Post Malone‘s “Sunflower (Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse)” collaboration was one above at #11.

The Megan Thee Stallion takeover has been real throughout 2019 so it isn’t surprising that Billboard chose her single “Big Ole Freak” for #9. One the catchiest songs the year (so far) has been Blueface’s “Thotiana” which made it all the way up to #6 on the list. Ariana Grande‘s “7 Rings” was one above at #5. No one has seen a greater come up in 2019 more than Lil Nas X who, along with Billy Ray Cyrus, sits at the #3 spot with “Old Town Road (Remix).”

The top two spots? Number two was reserved for Billie Eilish’s “Bad Guy” while the #1 song 2019 (so far) according to Billboard belongs to the Jonas Brothers for “Sucker.” Check out the entire list here and let us know who your top picks are for the year.

Her R&B group Xscape had a successful return that included a tour and reality television show, but Tiny Harris has been slowly easing her way into dropping her solo project. In May, Tiny released her single “I F*CKIN <3 YOU” and she recently held a listening party for her forthcoming album. For decades, fans have known her as the pint-sized member a girl group, rapper T.I.‘s wife, or as a hip hop reality star, but now she’s ready to solidify herself as a solo artist.

“Sometimes it’s harder to branch out from what they the fans] know…I thought, maybe if I create something different with this new music, maybe they’ll get into it,” Harris said when she screened her new album. “In the songs, I’m addressing things and at the same time, you’ll be able to understand and actually feel it.”

What keeps her 19-year relationship with T.I. solid? “You just gotta keep working at it every day. Love though. It’s all love.”

Apple Shuttering iTunes

Cupertino, CA – When Apple unveils its new operating system this fall, one beloved feature will be noticeably absent — iTunes. But fear not, the technology giant is splitting it into three separate media streaming apps: Apple Music, Apple Podcasts and Apple TV, according to MSN.

Many iTunes users were concerned they’d lose their entire music libraries but a press release states otherwise.

“Users will have access to their entire music library, whether they downloaded the songs, purchased them or ripped them from a CD,” Apple said.

Apple insists the new Music app for Mac is “lightning fast, fun and easy to use.” It will have over 50 million songs, playlists and music videos.

The new MacOS, Catalina, will be available this fall as a free software update.

In other Apple-related news, the company recently announced they are bringing the iPod Touch back. The new 7th-generation version starts at $199 for the 32 GB option and maxes out at $399 for the 256 GB selection.

Viceland Renews Action Bronson’s TV Shows "Fuck, That’s Delicious" & "Traveling The Stars"

Action Bronson is returning to Viceland’s airwaves. The network has announced the renewals of his food documentary series Fuck, That’s Delicious and his comedy show Traveling The Stars: Action Bronson and Friends Watch Ancient Aliens.

“We couldn’t be happier to have more Action on the channel,” Viceland president Guy Slattery said in a press release. “He’s a singular talent whose passion, knowledge and energy leap off the screen.”

Bronson added, “I’m happy to continue my life’s work.”

The renewals of both series come after some friction emerged between Bronson and the network in 2018. Last October, he criticized Viceland after it compared him to chef Nusret Gökçe, a.k.a. “Salt Bae,” on Twitter.

Later that month, Bronson said he was unofficially done working for Vice Media — the parent company of Viceland — during an appearance on Complex’s Open Late With Peter Rosenberg. But, the two sides have ironed out their issues to proceed with new seasons of his TV shows.

Fuck, That’s Delicious originally began as a Vice web series but moved to Viceland when the network launched in 2016. Traveling The Stars, which features Bronson and guests watching episodes of the History Channel series Ancient Aliens, premiered that same year but only ran for one season.

Jussie Smollett Likely To Return For "Empire" Season 6: Report

Shortly after news broke out about Jussie Smollett’s alleged attack, he received an outpour support until police flipped the script and said they believe Smollett staged the whole thing. They even allege that his motive was to increase his celebrity prile. That clearly didn’t work out for him and many believed that there wouldn’t be a chance his career would be able to be revamped. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case as the Empire writers are reportedly plotting on his return.

In late April, Empire was renewed for a sixth season but it was reported that Smollett’s return was unlikely. “By mutual agreement, the studio has negotiated an extension to Jussie Smollett’s option for season 6, but at this time there are no plans for the character Jamal to return to Empire,” Fox said in a statement. Immediately afterward, his castmates rallied for his return and it appears to have worked. According to Variety, writers for the show are plotting on Smollett’s character’s return to the show with an expectation that he’ll be back towards the second half the season.

Sources close to the production said that the Smollett controversy sparked tension among the predominantly Black cast, who believe that Smollett is innocent, and the predominantly white below-the-line crew, who think that Smollett is guilty. There’s hope that the tension will die down between seasons, given Smollett returns. No final decision has ficially been made.

Teairra Mari Tells The Court She’s "Broke Broke" In Legal Battle With 50 Cent: Report

Teairra Mari‘s been doing her best to avoid paying 50 Cent in the revenge porn case she filed against him. Since the judgment was made, Fif’s hounded the singer-turned-reality show star on social media and in court to get his money. She’s made it quite clear that she doesn’t have any intention on paying 50 Cent back, even launching a campaign called “I Ain’t Got It” to further her point. Unfortunately, it appears as though she really ain’t got it since she admits that she’s broke to the court.

According to The Blast, Teairra Mari is broke, like, broke broke, and that’s the reason why she can’t cough up any money to 50 Cent. Fty’s previously demanded a judge intervene and force the reality show star to pay him the $30K in legal fees as well as an additional $25K for the trouble she’s caused.

Last month, she finally turned over her financial documents. After further examination, Mari allegedly claimed that she’s “broke broke” and not able to cough up the judgment. The judge then asked about her sources income, as well as her property and assets. She said that she made $8K per episode  Love & Hip Hip and made $100K last season. She also claimed that her boyfriend’s covered her rent for a while and that she recently moved in with him. Additionally, she claimed that with the exception her phone bill, she’s had to rely on other people to cover her rent.

50 Cent responded, claiming that she’s either careless with money or “actively hiding her assets” to avoid payment.” He’s begging the judge to not believe Mari’s story and force her to cough up the additional $25K on top the $30K she already owes him.

Chief Keef Reportedly Owes His Baby Mama $500K In Child Support

We’ve learned a lot about Chief Keef through his child support battles. The Chicago rapper has been fighting his children’s mothers in court for what seems like forever at this point. Back in 2013, it was reported that Keef refused to pay $3,000 in monthly child support. He doesn’t seem to have gotten any easier to work with because at the end last year, Erica Early, one his children’s mothers, was on a mission to get him jailed for ignoring his payments. Now, she’s making further claims by saying that in total, Keef has kept half a million dollars from her in back child support payments.

According to The Blast, new legal documents filed by Early claim that the rapper is in civil contempt for violating a court order. Since 2013, Keef’s payments have been upped to over $10K per month and he’s still refusing to pay. The 43-year-old woman who has a daughter with 23-year-old Keef is demanding that the artist appears in court to explain why he owes her $500K in back payments.

Chief Keef has previously admitted to having nine children with nine different mothers. A hearing has been set for this month. Chief Keef has not yet commented on the claims.

Madonna Loses Appeal To Block Sale Of Tupac Letter: Report

TMZ reports shared an update with regards to Madonna‘s attempts to halt the selling an old letter penned by rap-legend, Tupac. According to the news outlet, the famed singer filed an appeal to put a break on the sale the letter. However, a New York State Appeals Court rejected the appeal and claimed that Madonna could not pursue claims against Darlene Lutz, a former friend who acted as her art consultant. Lutz is behind the deal with the auction house where she cosigned the items for sale. The court ruling will permit the sale Madonna’s intimate and personal items which include the sacred break-up letter from Tupac Shakur.

Moreover, last year, a judge rejected Madonna’s lawsuit to halt the sale the letter. The justification fered at the time was that the “Like A Virgin” pop star had signed a release back in 2004 which prohibited her from suing over the letter’s sale. The famous Tupac letter to Madonna states that the late rapper ended his relationship with the icon because she was white. And next month, the letter will be in the hands the highest bidder. TMZ reached out to Madonna’s reps, but no comments were fered as yet.

Despite them proving that they love each other dearly on so many different occasions, fans always speculate the worst in their relationship. Perhaps, that has to do with how they’re seen every week on their reality show. 50 Cent Has A Laugh Over Tracy Morgan’s Scuffed Bugatti

Even when 50 Cent is expressing sympathy, it’s hard to hear anything over than the echoes his villainous laughter. Of course, we’ve long loved the legendary rapper for his antagonistic persona, whether he was obliterating the game on “How To Rob” or dismantling his enemies on the appropriately titled “Death To My Enemies.” Yet in this Instagram age, 50 Cent has developed a newfound passion for cultural commentary, ten delivered by way hilarious memes and captions. Naturally, when fu*kery is afoot, the man they call Fty is seldom far behind.

Such was indeed the case after Tracy Morgan found himself on the receiving end a horrendously annoying accident, in which his fifteen-minute-old Bugatti was sideswiped by a Honda CR-V. To add insult to injury, Morgan’s pristine new whip still sported the dealership plates, so perhaps consider reevaluating your own recent spell luck. Yet somehow, 50 was able to find glee in the situation, taking to Instagram to empathize with Morgan in his own unique fashion.

“yo why this fool hit Tracey Morgan Bugatti wit a Uber upTown,” writes 50, beside a mischevious emoji. “LOL I know he tight right now, all the fun over today. Hahahaha.” Perhaps this is one those “you have to laugh or else you’ll cry” type deals. After all, a scratched Bugatti is better than no Bugatti at all, is it not? One thing is for certain – it’s a good thing that Honda driver didn’t end up scuffing Fty’s whip, lest the kneecapper come a knockin’

Madonna Fails To Block Tupac Shakur Love Letter Sale

New York, NY – Madonna was once romantically linked to the late, great Tupac Shakur. While he was in prison, the Hip Hop icon penned a letter to the pop matriarch and it’s finally going up for auction. While Madge tried to block the sale, TMZ reports her efforts were futile.

According to new legal documents, the platinum-selling singer just lost her appeal to halt the sale.

A New York State Appeals Court ruled Madonna can’t pursue claims against her former friend and art consultant Darlene Lutz or Gotta Have Rock and Roll, the online auction house Lutz consigned the items to last year.

Madonna Fails To Block Tupac Shakur Love Letter Sale

A judge threw out Madonna’s lawsuit last year after it was revealed she’d signed a release form in 2004. On Tuesday (June 4), the appellate court upheld the judge’s ruling in a 5-0 decision, explaining Madonna’s claims are blocked by the “very broad” release.

The letter in question, which was written in 1995, served as ‘Pac’s breakup letter to the ’80s superstar. He ended their sexual relationship essentially because of her skin color and concerns over what dating a white woman would do to his “image.”

The item goes up for auction next month. Read the full letter here.

Meek Mill Granted New Hearing In Front Of Superior Court Judges — Not Judge Brinkley

Philadelphia, PA – Meek Mill was granted an appellate court hearing with the Superior Court in Philadelphia on Tuesday (June 4), according to a statement obtained by HipHopDX.

The Philly rapper’s legal team will have the chance to advocate for Meek’s original conviction to be overturned in front of the Pennsylvania Superior Court – not Judge Genece Brinkley, the controversial judge who’s been accused of having a personal vendetta against the Championships artist.

The Philly D.A. advocated for a new trial just last month.

Throughout Meek’s legal ordeal, it was discovered Meek’s 2007 original arresting officer Reginald Graham was entangled in corruption scandals and provided false testimony, including on Meek’s case.

Graham testified Meek was selling drugs and pointing a gun at police officers at the time of his arrest, but Meek insists that isn’t true. Graham’s fellow officer, Jerold Gibson, submitted a sworn affidavit that corroborated Meek’s story.

In June 2018, Brinkley denied Meek’s effort to get another trial and overturn the conviction — despite the overwhelming evidence in Meek’s favor. Now, Meek’s legal team can finally present their case in front of the Superior Court in an effort to finally clear Meek’s name so he can resume life with no bail restrictions

One of Meek’s attorneys, Jordan Siev, is more than ready to present their case.

“We’re looking forward to the oral argument before the Superior Court of Pennsylvania and to, hopefully, having Meek’s conviction vacated. In light of the District Attorney’s recent filing, where he supports the granting of a new trial to Meek and the recusal of Judge Brinkley, we hope to have this injustice rectified once and for all.”

The hearing is scheduled for July 16 at 3:30 p.m. local time.
