The Breakdown | The Quarantine Effect On Hip Hop

Hollywood, CA – Like the rest of the world, Hip Hop is feeling the impact of the coronavirus pandemic as continues its rampage.

For this week’s episode of The Breakdown, current host Page Kennedy takes a look at the effects the virus is having on the industry in an episode called “The Quarantine Effect On Hip Hop.”

“You want the bad news or the good news first?” he begins. From there, he talks about how major festivals such as SXSW and Coachella have been canceled or postponed in the wake of the pandemic.

On the flipside, Kennedy discusses the “good news,” which includes the countless artists who’ve been connecting with their fans and peers on Instagram Live and other social media platforms.

D-Nice, Erykah Badu, Questlove, Statik Selektah, DJ Premier, Lord Finesse, Cut Chemist and MC Eiht are just a sliver of artists who are keeping their fans entertained with intimate performances.

Let’s break it down.

Donovan Mitchell Has Message For Fans After Coronavirus Recovery

Donovan Mitchell and his teammate, Rudy Gobert, both ended up catching the Coronavirus that has been making its way throughout the globe over the past few months. The pandemic is about to reach its peak but for Gobert and Mitchell, the worst is finally over. They were recently told that they have been cleared the virus and will be able to continue their lives as normal.

Mitchell understands just how bad this virus can be. With this in mind, he has decided to educate people and yesterday, he even took to his Twitter account where he had a serious message for everyone at home who is going through quarantine. As he said, it’s important to stay the course because even if you don’t feel sick, you could still be carrying the virus.

“On a more serious note… let’s continue to practice social distancing and remember… even though you may not have symptoms you still may be infected!!” Mitchell wrote. “Let’s keep everyone in our prayers and stay safe.”

Due to COVID-19, the entire NBA season has been put on pause and won’t resume until it is safe to get into large gatherings again. If you’re sad that the NBA is gone and want it back sooner rather than later, you should live by Mitchell’s words wisdom.

Cardi B Calls For "Tiger King" Joe Exotic’s Freedom

It seems like everyone has been tuning into Netflix’s Tiger King this week. Viewers have been hashing out their thoughts surrounding the incarcerated Joe Exotic ever since Netflix debuted the docuseries recently. Joe Exotic’s found some pretty famous supporters, as well, including Cardi B.

Seeing as how she’s been practicing social distancing, Cardi B has clearly had some time to dive into Netflix. Though she admitted on Thursday that she was lost in the second episode because she was having , she clearly caught up on all the details. “Carol you think you slick bitch,” she wrote on Twitter. She later retweeted a fan meme that read, “Carole Baskins fed her husband to the tigers.” That’s been a running theory throughout the series that Carole has denied.

Exotic is currently locked up for allegedly trying to set up the murder Carole Baskin, who serves as the onscreen antagonist in the series. However, Cardi pledged to free the man. She even went as far as vowing to launch a GoFundMe in his honor. “Bout to start a gundme account for Joe .He shall be free,” she wrote. Chances are she’s joking, though, but she clearly got invested in the series.

Joe Exotic has filed a $94M lawsuit against the federal government claiming that they’ve discriminated against and conspired against him to have him locked up.

Steph Curry Reportedly Not Concerned With Basketball Right Now

Steph Curry has been doing his best to keep busy during the NBA’s Coronavirus hiatus. In fact, earlier this week, Curry did a Q&A with Dr. Anthony Fauci who has been one the leading experts in regard to this pandemic. Just like everyone else, Curry has been at home and is looking to stay isolated from the outside world as we try to curb the spread this virus, once and for all.

Many NBA players have been struggling during the pandemic due to the fact that they don’t have workout equipment at home. Curry hasn’t exactly had to worry about this as his home is well-equipped. According to his trainer Brandon Payne, basketball hasn’t really been on Curry’s mind anyway. In fact, he’s more worried about Cam Newton leaving the Panthers.

“To be honest with you, we’ve talked more about the Carolina Panthers’ quarterback situation than we’ve talked about anything else,” Payne said according to Tom Haberstroh NBC Sports. “We talked a little bit about workouts and what he can do, but it’s not a whole lot right now. Stephen is fortunate because he’s got a larger home with a workout area with some pretty nice equipment in it. He’ll be able to maintain things physically pretty well because he’s got the tools to do so. Some the other guys I’ve been talking to? They’re a little bit more challenged.”

Hopefully, we can see Curry back on the court, sooner than later. He was just starting to get back with the Warriors when this pandemic hit and now, we have been deprived his infamous shot.

Drake & Popcaan Have New Collaboration In The Works

Popcaan made his ficial OVO debut in December with Vanquish. Surprisingly, there was no Drake feature on the project but that doesn’t mean they don’t have a few songs in the cut. We heard the “Controlla” leak which, let’s be real, should’ve made the final cut  Views but we haven’t heard anything from the two them as recently. Thankfully, that could change very soon.

Even though the summer is uncertain, it looks like Popcaan and Drake are getting ready to have the summer on lock. Tapping in with each other on Instagram Live, the two artists promised to send each other new music to collaborate on, even though they can’t physically lock into the studio together. “Yo, alright, watch. I’mma make a tune tonight. I’mma fawad it,” Drake promised before Popcaan stated that he too would make a song and send it back to Drake.

Drake did compliment another song that Popcaan sent over to him prior. Perhaps that might be something that Drake ends up on, maybe for his own album. He did recently confirm that he was in the studio working on a new project, though he hasn’t shared many details about it. It seems like there’s a good chance he waits until the Coronavirus pandemic to die down before he does that, though.

Hit-Boy & Boi-1da Drop New Drake, Big Sean & Nipsey Hussle Tracks During Instagram Live Battle

The ‘Gram – On Thursday (March 26), Grammy award-winning producer Boi-1da posted a promo of his Friday night beat battle against fellow producer Hit-Boy slated for Friday night on Instagram Live.

The epic duel lasted over two hours and stunned its audience that peaked at over 17,000 viewers as Hit-Boy and Boi-1da dug deep into their bags and leaked new songs that they crafted in collaboration with Tee Grizzley, Drake, Roddy Ricch, Nas, Big Sean and Nipsey Hussle.

Several high profile viewers who tuned in simultaneously were Drake, Joe Budden, Kevin Durant, Russ, Timbaland, Swizz Beatz.

Hit-Boy also reached back into his back catalog of production credits including A$AP Rocky’s “Goldie,” Kendrick Lamar’s “Backseat Freestyle,” and “Bow Down/I Been On” by Beyoncé.

But as the battle intensified, Boi-1da swung back some hard moves by putting out new tracks such as Big Sean featuring the late Nipsey Hussle on their song possibly titled “Street Legend.”

Boi-1da Explains His Participation In Rémy Martin’s Producer Competition

Big Sean even suddenly appeared for a short tag team with Boi-1da to surprise the viewers, much to Boi-1da’s chagrin.

“Yo, Sean, why’d you snap like that? Relax, bro,” Boi-1da said.

Hit-Boy also dropped an untitled new Nas cut, which Hit-Boy had to admit “that’s nasty.”

Just as several viewers thought Boi-1da was on the ropes, he struck back with his own heat with an earnest warning.

“You remember when Trump and Kim Jong-Un were beefing and talking about nukes and shit? You know all that shit? I gotta press the red button. I’m not even playing with you, Hit-Boy,” Boi-1da said before he released Drake and Roddy Ricch’s new song.

Boi-1da doubled down for Drake fans by releasing his other new track with 6ix god’s which is speculatively called “I Did.”

The Twittersphere and Instagram realm was on fire as viewers chimed in about who they believe was the victor.

But Boi-1da was respectful to his opponent by tweeting about the competitive fun following the battle.

“Hit-Boy is one of the greatest of our generation. DON’T AT ME… That was epic, love to everyone that tuned in,” Boi-1da said.

Britney Spears Was Only Joking About Beating Usain Bolt’s World Record

Britney Spears was “obviously joking” about being faster than Usain Bolt, when she claimed to have beat the world-renowned sprinter’s 100 metre dash world record time. The super fit former pop star is constantly documenting her workouts on social media, and on Wednesday, Britney shared a fitness update with her followers  Instagram. In a since-deleted post, Brit had shared a screenshot her stopwatch app, which had a “00:05.97” timestamp on it, and claimed in the caption to have sprinted 100 metres in that short time, beating her previous attempts. Many fans doubted the validity Brit’s supposed time, considering how absurdly fast she’d have to be to do the 100 metre dash in less than 6 seconds. Many them pointed out that it was highly unlikely she was telling the truth, since Usain Bolt currently holds the world record for running that same distance in 9.58 seconds. Did Britney really think we’d believe she was faster than the fastest person on earth?

Apparently, no. In another since-deleted post, Britney cleared the air about the whole “I beat the world record for fastest sprinter” thing, indicating that, course, she was kidding. “Obviously I was joking about running the 100 meter dash in 5.97 seconds,” she wrote on the post. “The world record is held by Usain Bolt which is 9.58 seconds …. but you better believe I’m coming for the world record 😂 !!!! #joking #workbitch.” We’d honestly love to see Britney actually beat Usain’s world record. Anything is possible!

Giannis Antetokounmpo Reveals Who Annoys Him The Most

Giannis Antetokounmpo has been proving himself to be one the best players in the entire NBA and prior to the NBA hiatus, he was in the discussion to win his second-straight NBA MVP award. Now, he spends most his time on IG Live where he answers fan questions. Recently, Giannis was talking about who he hatest to play in front the most. Giannis even mentioned the Toronto Raptors and how Drake is pretty up there. However, Giannis immediately retracted his Drake statement and claimed that Raptors Superfan Nav is the one who annoys him the most because the way he is constantly talking trash.

Nav saw the clip Giannis’ admission and immediately took to Twitter where he noted that everything he says is all fun and games. The superfan even fered Giannis a meal for the next time he comes to Toronto.

Hahaha @Giannis_An34 love you like family before and after the game but during those 48 minutes I have to do whatever it takes to give my boys the edge! You have to know when you visit Toronto you get the 1-2 punch @Drake then the superfan 🙂 dinner on me next time #staysafe,” Nav wrote.

Clearly, these two have a friendly rivalry that is all in good fun. For Nav, the rivalry has been just a tad one-sided so far. Perhaps that will change when the Bucks beat the Raptors in a playf series.

Stephen “Thundercat” Bruner has contributed to a few of Kendrick Lamar albums over the years, including the 2015 masterpiece To Pimp A Butterfly and 2017’s Pulitzer Prize-winning album DAMN. So it comes as no surprise the talented bassist has worked on K. Dot’s forthcoming, yet-to-be-titled album.

During a video interview with Japanese fashion brand Neet Tokyo, Thundercat confirmed his involvement, saying, “I think I worked on the new one a little bit. But not as much.” From there, he pivoted to Kendrick’s overall career.

Wendy Williams Shook About "Saggy Boobs" After Elective Surgeries Suspended

It was recently declared that America has the highest number Coronavirus cases in the world, recently topping 101K, according to CNN. The majority people are staying inside their homes while others are working the frontlines this pandemic. That being said, health workers have been working tirelessly as the number cases COVID-19 rises which means that unless your health conditions are dire, hospital services should predominantly be used for emergencies.

Unfortunately for Wendy Williams, that means that her forthcoming surgery on her breasts has been put on hold. Appearing on The Dr. Oz Show, Wendy Williams detailed how Coronavirus has been affecting her on a personal level, as well as the rest Hollywood. She did reiterate that she’s entirely supportive the health system putting an emphasis about the emergency matters with Coronavirus, she explained that she might have to deal with some “saggy boobs” for the next little while.

“It’s just that, as a surgery girl, when you save your money and you’ve been planning for years, and then you have your appointment and all a sudden the corona pops up, and I got to deal with these saggy boobs,” she said.

I presume that dealing with saggy boobs for a few more months might be easier than dealing with saggy breasts but what do I know?

Floyd Mayweather Schools Antonio Brown On Not Paying Taxes

Floyd Mayweather is one the most legendary boxers all time and has made millions dollars throughout his career. In fact, Mayweather’s fights can make him upwards hundreds millions dollars simply because his name draws a massive crowd. When you make a lot money, the taxman frequently comes knocking at your door. If you don’t pay these taxes, the IRS could come after you which would end up being a pretty scary sight.

Mayweather was recently on Instagram live with Antonio Brown and in the middle their conversation, Mayweather lamented about the concept taxes and how we have no clue where our hard-earned money goes. In fact, Mayweather claims there is no law that says we need to pay taxes. Brown seemed to agree with this notion although if they went to google, they would understand that there are harsh penalties for not paying taxes, including jail time.

When you’re as rich as Brown or Mayweather, paying your taxes shouldn’t be that big an issue although, for them, it seems like a really big hassle. As for us common folk, we will have to continue paying our taxes without raising a single finger to the powers that be.

As they say, such is life.
