As for fans the Insecure, there’s one person Issa would cancel the series over is she proved to a fan and it’s First Lady Melania Trump. “I would be like, ‘Well, I guess it’s canceled. We’re not making this show. It’s not ours anymore,’” she said.

"Insecure" In-Show TV Series "Kev'yn" Gets Real Life Episodes

HBO and Issa Rae are celebrating the return  Insecure, the break-out hit series based on Rae’s internet series Awkward Black Girl. Season three  Insecure debuted on Sunday night, and on the series, the characters watch a fictional television show called Kev’yn. The show within the show now has its own episodes online. 

Two episodes  Kev’yn have been released online. On Insecure‘s website, the actors for Kev’yn are given fake names and attributes. For example, Kev’yn is played by “Jermain Johnson,” who is really played by Bill Bellamy. The meta-series is a nod to Black sitcoms in the 90’s, and is directed by Living Single’s Kim Fields. The intro and setting the show is reminiscent  Martin, while the clothing and hairstyles bring Fresh Prince to mind. 

 The synopsis for the first episode, entitled “The Original” is as follows: “After agreeing to switch gender roles for a day, Kev’yn and Percy realize being a woman isn’t a slice cake.”

Rihanna Announces Childish Gambino & Issa Rae as Diamond Ball Collaborators

Rihanna’s fourth annual Diamond Ball is set to light up NYC this September. The “Wild Thoughts” singer has announced this year’s host and performing guest for her fundraiser. Issa Rae Finally Addresses Comments Made About Asian Men & Black Women Dating

Issa Rae’s 2015 book The Misadventures Awkward Black Girl recently got some backlash three years after it’s release. A certain chapter the book reads Issa’s opinion that Black women and Asian Men are at the bottom the food chain, suggesting they join forces in “love, marriage and procreation.”

Issa never fully responded to the matter, but her fans were quick to defend her explaining how the whole book should be read before dissecting one passage. So there’s your solution black women!”  Issa even added how Black Men and Asian Men have the “worst chances matching with other people” on dating apps.

She added: “Of course it was a joke, but I was like, ‘this is what I’m getting dragged for?’ And I’ve never even dated outside my race, I was like, ‘I stayed loyal to these ashy n*****s all my life!’”

“I was heading to the HBO party, as I should, and Drake] was leaving the HBO party. And so we crossed paths and he said the most magical words ever. He was like ‘I’ve been looking for you all night.’ And I was like ‘You talking about me?’ And he was like ‘I’m about to go to this Netflix party, do you want to go?’ And I was like ‘Oh I have to go stop in the HBO party’ because they’re the network that puts my show on, I couldn’t just ditch the party and go to Netflix party even though that’s what I really wanted to do,” she explained. “So I was like ‘I’ll catch you at that party.’ That was it. Then I went to the party and all a sudden blogs were reporting that I turned him down which would never happen.”
