New York, NY – This summer, SAINt JHN unleashed his sophomore effort Ghetto Lenny’s Love Songs which is home to a sultry track titled “Borders” featuring legendary Grammy Award-winning musician Lenny Kravitz.
The music video for “Borders” made its debut on the MTV Billboard in New York City’s historic Time Square November 29 and was also plastered on the YouTube and Staple Center billboards located in Times Square as well.
Dallas, TX – 2019 has upheld the belief that even without label intervention, hits are ultimately in the hands of the people. Nowhere has that been more apparent than TikTok.
Even with larger entities pouring marketing resources into generating hype the bubbling, youthful platform, Lil Nas X strolled along and proved that making good songs is a process that is merely inevitable for some.
Though, as the “Old Town Road” genius relied on his song becoming a meme — putting his subsequent release under a microscope of artistic integrity — Texas singer Kaash Paige blew up on the platform for no other reason than having an incredible track.
In an interview with Above Average Hip Hop nine months ago — just a day after releasing the video for her now-viral, Dream Koala-produced “Love Songs” — she optimistically stated that she felt as though the song had the potential to change her life.
It’s scary how incredibly accurate that statement has proven itself to have been, having since signed to Def Jam, releasing her debut LP Parked Car Convos.
“When I first dropped ‘Love Songs’ on SoundCloud, it was getting recognition … but not like it is now,” she tells HipHopDX. “It was one of those songs that was just growing on everyone.”
The song caught on quickly once TikTok got hold of it — a phenomenon she didn’t fully comprehend at first.
“Everyone was telling me,” Kaash, your song’s blowing up on TikTok. I don’t use it, so I was like, ‘Okay, that’s cool.’ I didn’t care … but they were like, “No Kaash, it’s really blowing up,” she says.
Her team capitalized on the song’s popularity, and things accelerated quickly. “My life just changed after that … ‘Love Songs’ took me right on the math.”
Though she notes her quick rise has brought about a heap of new challenges — such as fake friends — she’s enjoying every moment of the experience. “I’m having fun with it,” she says.
Kaash is far from an overnight success. “I’ve been making music since I was a kid. But I was never consistent … I was more into sports,” she says.
“My sophomore year I dropped my first rap song with my homeboy … after I made that song, I was like, ‘You know, I want to sing,’” she explains.
Though her output wasn’t massive, she did make some impact. Most notably, her three-year-old song “DND,” which has the same instrumental as “Love Songs,” just sped up.
The creation of her debut project came with lots of newfound pressure for the young artist. “It took about five or six months,” she says of the creative process. “Thing is, I focused on the project so much that I couldn’t make music.
“Once I finally learned not to listen to myself and stop thinking about it, I started making great songs,” she adds.
The album’s mantra is, according to Kaash, precisely what the name suggests.
“[Parked Car Convos is] just basically being in the car with whomever — like your friends or your boo — and just having an intimate conversation with them. I say it’s kind of like a therapy session. Talking about something to get it off your mind or whatever. ”
With Kylie Jenner having posted Instagram stories of her herself listening to Kaash Paige no less than five times over the last week of November, her audience is widening by the day. Circling back to her interview nine months ago, she made another prediction.
“You’re going to see the Kaash Paige take over the universe.”
Ever since Lil Durk announced his departure from Def Jam, he’s embraced being the OTF Boss. He’s not only unleashed solo music, from Signed To The Streets 3 to Love Songs 4 The Streets 2, he’s also unleashed a few compilation projects with the OTF clique. The rapper took to Instagram today to announce that he has one more project to drop f before the year ends. Family Over Everything is the new project from Lil Durk. It appears as though it will be more a compilation record with appearances from King Von, Booka600, Jusblow600, Doodie Lo, and more. The album is set to arrive on December 11th so keep your eyes peeled for that.
The album announcement comes a few days after he released, “Blika Blika.” He also recently teamed up with Future, who he’s collaborated with on numerous occasions, for the song, “Last Name.” With the new album dropping on Dec. 11th, perhaps we’ll get a new song before then.
While rap is ten affiliated with gang culture, hyperuality, and violence, the beloved genre has birthed quite a few love songs. There are plenty rappers who use their skills with a pen and a mic to craft hits that have been played at wedding receptions and behind closed doors in the bedroom, but recently, Ebro Darden posed an interesting question to his listeners on the topic.
“Who is the best love poem rapper all time?” Ebro asked on his show. “The rapper who’s made the most love raps all time.” The answers started flowing in including Common and Wale. Of the latter, co-host Peter Rosenberg stated that Wale “drops monster love poem hits.” Common seemed to be a favorite, but they couldn’t last long in this conversation without mentioning LL Cool J.
“Common got so many love songs, man,” Ebro said. Then, Fabolous‘s name was thrown into the mix, but Ebro didn’t agree with that one. Unfortunately, they didn’t come to a clear conclusion who should take the title, but they did go on a bit a hilarious tangent about LL Cool J and why many his love tracks are just a way for him to hate on hard-working men trying to take care their women. Watch below and weigh in with your candidates.
SpaceGhostPurrp is evidently not feeling Tory Lanez’s new Chixtape 5 project. With a gun in his hand and a young boy hopping in and out of the video screen, the Florida-bred rapper threatens Lanez for allegedly making a “whole album” about his girl.
“I got your girl bruh,” he says in the video. “She with a real nigga. You over hear making love songs about her and guess what? She’s over here kicking it with me … You gotta get your mind right, man.”
He later accuses Lanez of “stalking” his girl and adds, “You so much of a bitch, I’ll shoot you in your leg…and have you walk around with one leg.”
Elsewhere in the video, SpaceGhostPurrp pulls the woman’s hand into the screen and points the gun directly at the camera.
“This hand right here got you making songs about it, man,” he says. “You better not ever try to get on some real nigga shit, you understand me? You better not ever try to act like you a real nigga.”
For over 16 minutes, the A$AP Mob affiliate continues clowning Lanez and bragging about how he stole his girl. He also goes in on T-Pain, calling him a “fat koala nigga.”
In a new video uploaded to SpaceGhostPurrp’s YouTube prile, he addresses Canadian rapper Tory Lanez, condemning him for allegedly writing an entire album about his girlfriend. “I got your girl, bruh,” he said. “She with a real n***a. You over here making love songs about her. She’s over here kicking it with me. You gotta get your mind, right.” Throughout the rant, SGP can be seen with a handgun in his grip, pointing it at the camera and threatening to use it on Fargo.
“You so much a bitch I’ll shoot you in your leg…and have you walk around with one leg,” he said to Lanez, according to XXL. Some the remarks being made in this video are very disturbing. Hopefully, Purrp was just joking. So far, Tory has not responded to the criticism.
Prior to Marques Houston becoming a solo artist, the R&B singer was a member the group Immature. The teens primarily sang innocent love songs, but they were a hit and toured the world, performing for their young, and mature, fans. Each them had their own nicknames: Marques was “Batman,” Kelton Kessee was “LDB,” and Jerome Jones was known as “Romeo.”

The latter stood out from the other two because he sported a black eye patch, and while some thought it was a fashion statement, Jerome shared years ago that it stemmed from an incident that happened with fellow singer Brandy Norwood. Rumors circulated that the Moesha actress was responsible for Romeo’s eye injury, but while the gossip made it seem as if it was a purposeful move, Jerome confirmed in a recent interview with Nick Cannon that it was all an accident.
Cannon asked about the patch and the rumors about Brandy, and Jerome explained, “Yeah, her and Half Pint had got into it. She had a book in her hand, just tossed it back, not thinking anyone or I was that close. Cut my retina. Detached it. And the lens to the eye had fell out and Brandon Adams caught it. He was there with us. So, he’s standing there holding my lens. He’s not knowing what’s going on. Marq come in and we were trying to hide it.”
Marques chimed in that no one wanted to say anything because they wanted to make sure Brandy didn’t get scolded. “I was like ‘What’s going on?’ Rome is on the bed,” Marques said. “I’m like, ‘What’s going on?’ Rome is like, ‘Nothing. Nothing.’ Brandy’s like, ‘He don’t want to get me in trouble. Nothing, nothing.'” When he found out, he immediate ran for Chris Stokes and rushed Jerome to the hospital. Unfortunately, he became blind in that eye. Check out the clip below.
Last week Malika Haqq came through with a major announcement telling her 4.5 million Instagram followers that she’s pregnant with her first child. “I listen to my heart, and I’ve decided that the rest my life will be the best my life. I’m pregnant! I didn’t know when, I just knew one day. God said it’s my turn, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the little spirit that grows inside me,” she wrote.
At the time, the father Malika’s baby was unknown but many assumed O.T. Genasis was the dad since the duo broke up in June this year. US Weeklynow reports that the “CoCo” rapper is indeed the father meaning the exes will have at least 18 years having to stay in contact for the sake their child.
“I’m counting steps, reading, praying, planning, looking like I ate too much,” Malika captioned an image next to her twin sister. “And she’s with me everyday because @foreverkhadijah LOVES it. But I love her so much more.”
Exactly one year ago when Genasis and Malika was in the midst their romance the rapper posted a loving tribute for his girlfriend detailing just how much he loved her. “To the world you may be one person but to me You’ve become my world. My life has changed with you in it,” he wrote. “Before you I was lost and confused and didn’t know how to let my guard down. You know I always play you love songs but now I know what the songs actually mean.”
Love like that doesn’t go away so we’re foreshadowing a positive co-parenting experience.
Congratulations are in order for O.T. Genasis and Malika Haqq.
The rapper and his ex-girlfriend are expecting a baby together, according to Us Weekly.
Last week, the reality star announced that she was pregnant with her first child, who is due next year. The father’s identity was a mystery until now. “I listen to my heart, and I’ve decided that the rest of my life will be the best of my life. I’m pregnant!” Haqq captioned a photo of herself holding a positive pregnancy test. “I didn’t know when, I just knew one day. God said it’s my turn, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the little spirit that grows inside of me. I am yours, baby, and you are mine.”
In June, Haqq confirmed that she split from the 32-year-old rapper after dating on and off for two years. “Single,” Haqq wrote at the time.
Genasis has yet to confirm the baby news. Last October, he penned an “open love letter” to Haqq. “To the world you may be one person but to me You’ve become my world. My life has changed with you in it,” he said. “Before you I was lost and confused and didn’t know how to let my guard down. You know I always play you love songs but now I know what the songs actually mean. I came in thinking I had it figured all out but you gave me the structure I needed to stay balanced. As men we often have PRIDE that makes us not wanna do certain things. I would do anything in this world for you. YOU and only YOU made me a better man and want to be a better man.. You’re not only my partner but my best friend.”
Haqq’s BFF Khloé Kardashian also celebrated the mom-to-be. “My baby is having a baby!!!!!!!!” wrote the “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star. “I am literally so so so excited!!!! Congratulations Mika!!! I love you!!!!”
This will be Haqq’s first child. O.T. already has a 9-year-old son from a previous relationship.

Blasting the track in the car with his homies in the backseat, Trippie Redd gave everyone a taste what’s to come. The song has him exploring new heights with his voice, singing a powerful hook before NBA YoungBoy enters with his street-savvy bars. We’ve got to admit, it’s nice to hear YB back on record. After spending a few months behind bars, he’s still laying low on house arrest. For the next year, YoungBoy will likely be very quiet but he is allowed to drop music, hence why we’re hearing this snippet.
Are you feeling this? If so, keep an eye out for A Love Letter To You 4.
It’s safe to say SAINt JHN has been having quite the resurgence this year. From signing with Kareem Burke’s management company to dropping hits like “Trap” & most recently “Anything Can Happen” with Meek Mill, the fast-rising Brooklyn artist has quickly become one the hottest new artist in the game. Today, the Guyanese-American rapper decided to come through and give fans something to look forward to by announcing that he’s releasing a new album this Friday called Ghetto Lenny’s Love Songs.
Announced Instagram, the Brooklyn artist also shared the project’s artwork as well, which shows a drawing a skeleton on a motorcycle riding through a burning cross. “Ghetto Lenny’s Love Songs, August 23rd ✝️,” he captioned the post, while confirming its Friday release.
There’s no other information at this time, but we can assume recently released songs like “All I Want Is A Yacht” & “Anything Can Happen” will be on there. Peep the artwork (below) and be sure to check back this Friday to hear the long awaited album.
Rick Ross wasn’t able to secure the sixth No. 1 album of his career with Port Of Miami 2. The Maybach Music Group boss had to settle for No. 2 after selling 79,587 total album equivalent units compared to Slipknot’s 117,655 units for the week.
Although Rozay couldn’t match his previous peak, Port Of Miami 2 is his seventh Top 5 LP. He also had the week’s second-best pure album sales, moving 24,684 copies.
An Exclamation Point For Trippie Redd
Trippie Redd’s latest album ! helped him match his career-high mark on the Billboard 200 by debuting at No. 3. The Caroline Records artist previously peaked at No. 3 with last year’s A Love Letter To You 3 mixtape.
Redd scored another Top 3 release by selling 50,508 total album equivalent units. Only 6,652 of those copies came from pure album sales.
The Blueface Blues
Blueface’s hit single “Thotiana” cracked the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 earlier this year, but he wasn’t able to replicate that success with his first studio project for Cash Money Records. The West Coast rapper’s Dirt Bag EP entered the chart at No. 48.
Without a hit like “Thotiana” featured on the release, the EP only moved 12,314 total album equivalent units. Blueface didn’t get much support from pure album sales either, selling just 370 copies.

His Care Package compilation debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 109,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending Aug. 8. Of that amount, 16,000 were in album sales.

He also joins some legendary company, tying Garth Brooks, Eminem, Madonna, and The Rolling Stones for most No. 1s on the Billboard 200 with nine each. Only The Beatles (19), JAY-Z (14), Bruce Springsteen and Barbra Streisand (11), and Elvis Presley (10) have more.
Additionally, Care Package marks the first No. 1 album on Drake’s OVO Sound label. All of his previous albums were released Young Money/Cash Money/Republic.
Coming in at No. 4 is Lil Durk, who earns his first top 10 album with Love Songs 4 the Streets 2, which moved 44,000 equivalent album units (4,000 in album sales). The Chicago rapper has five previous entries on the Billboard 200 and previously peaked at No. 14 with 2015’s Remember My Name.

Billboard 200 Top 10
1. Drake – Care Package – 109,000

3. Billie Eilish – When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? – 47,000

8. Lizzo – Cuz I Love You – 34,000
9. Chance the Rapper – The Big Day – 33,000
10. Tool – Ænima – 33,000
Lil Durk just hit a personal best this past week, as Love Songs 4 the Streets 2 succeeded in placing 4th on Billboard’s Weekly Album Chart, no small feat for a rapper from such humble beginnings. Only Drake, Ed Sheeran, and Billie Eilish fared better than the 26-year-old vet at the box fice – a gulf nearly 50,000 units sold standing between Drake and Durkio in 4th place.
Ilya S. Savenok/Getty s
Of the 44,000 units equivalent sold between the project’s debut (August 2nd) and the weekly cut f date, 4,000 figure as “traditional sales.” Lil Durk’s previous high occurred in 2015 when Remember My Name peaked at number fifteen. Rounding out the Top 5 was Chris Brownstanding pat for the second week in a row.
Trickling down the list were a series companion projects and soundtracks. Oddly enough, Tool stole away with number ten on the list, for an album released back in 1996. The reason for the sudden upshot: their project wasn’t available on streaming platforms up until last week. The band was long considered to be Luddites for resisting the changing conventions the streaming age. A top ten placement is a good way to mitigate the shame. Kudos to Durkio and Tool, you’ve really outdone yourselves this time.
