Moneybagg Yo Reflects On Helping Takeoff After A Brawl

Following the release his new album Time Served, Moneybagg Yo hit the Complex studios to chop it up and swap stories. Around the nineteen minute mark, Moneybagg Yo reflects on the time he and Blac Youngsta helped Takef out a pinch. “It was me and Blac Youngsta,” begins Moneybagg, a gleam in his eye. “A couple more people from Memphis with us too. This was before the “Federal” series. I think Migos] had the “Versace” song out. It was a minute. We was in the streets with it. They had a show in Nashville, and a fight had went on. We had helped them, not that they needed our help or nothin, we just got in there.”

“Blac Youngsta grabbed the bracelet, and we followed the tour bus,” explains Moneybagg. “Pulled it over, and we swapped it out. It goes to show, we were looking at the situation like ‘we can get more out it than just a bracelet. Give the bracelet back, we probably gon’ get a verse. We wasn’t trying to sell the bracelet. This situation like this might put us somewhere else…We didn’t even know them at the time. We got to know each other when we exchanged the bracelet and numbers.”

“They most definitely remember the story,” says Moneybagg. “But we ain’t talked about it in so long. It ain’t really nothing to talk about, it is what is it.” For much more wisdom from Moneybagg, be sure to check out the full interview over at Complex

Mustard & Roddy Ricch’s "Ballin”’ Is No. 1 On Rhythmic Songs Chart

Mustard has ficially landed his second No. 1 on the Billboard Rhythmic Songs Airplay chart as his Roddy Ricch collaboration “Ballin'” finds itself at the top spot after experiencing a 22% increase in plays.

The last time Mustard occupied the space was with his Migos-assisted “Water.” While “Water” led as the single, both tracks appeared on Mustard’s Perfect Ten album the summer, which has remained in the top 10 the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart since its releases, debuting and peaking at No. 5. On other charts, “Ballin'” holds onto its No. 3 spot on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart with 27 million in weekly audience. It also sits at No. 7 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

As for Roddy, the songs marks his first No. 1 on the chart while becoming his third entry on the chart overall. Before then, his highest-charting cut was at No. 28 with Marhmello’s “Project Dreams.” It continues to decorate Roddy’s growing catalog, though, as he spent the last week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with his Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial debut album after pushing 101,000 equivalent album units.

It has since slipped to No. 3 but continues to hold its place atop the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and Top Rap Albums charts.

Metro Boomin & The Neptunes Connect In Legendary Link-Up

When people look back on the early millennium, particularly the era spanning from 2000-2003, the elite producers remain one the standout qualities. Names like Dr. Dre, Kanye West, Just Blaze, Timbaland, Swizz Beatz, and many more come to mind, but no list would be complete without the impeccable work Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo — known by the masses as The Neptunes. Together, Chad and P concocted dozens hits, effectively shaping the Platinum Era with their futuristic and percussive brand banger.

Today, Metro Boomin has put in similar work to solidify himself as a young legend. Having already assembled a discography countless hits, Young Metro has earned the trust pivotal Atlanta rappers like Future, Gucci Mane, Migos, and Young Thug. With an ear for darker production and spooky, atmospheric soundscapes, Metro has breathed new life into the Dark Banger, making him one the most revered producers today’s current age.

Now, it would appear that generations have joined forces. Metro took to Instagram to share an image himself, Chad Hugo, and Pharrell Williams engaging in a meeting the minds, his caption speaking volumes on the dynamic. “Forever the student,” he writes, a testament to his appreciation for his predecessors. Even if we don’t get a collaboration out this, it’s still cool to see this passing the torch.

Migos Gifted Exclusive Air Jordan 1 "Stir Fry" Pack: First Look

Migos members Quavo, Offset and Takef were recently gifted their very own “Stir Fry” Air Jordan 1s, courtesy  Philadelphia-based Garrixon Studio and Gallagher. The group took to instagram this week to share a look at their 1–1 AJ1s, each which was packaged in jumbo-sized takeout containers.

Garrixon Studio and Gallagher also posted some detailed shots the exclusive “Stir Fry” Air Jordan 1 pack, revealing all the Asian inspiration that went into the collab. For instance, Quavo’s red-based pair nods to Asian imperial history, Offset’s ocean-inspired, blue-based colorway is highlighted by fish scale accents, and Takef’s comes equipped with a woven bamboo-textured leather.

All the “Stir Fry” Air Jordan 1s feature a velvety suede and leather construction with each artists name imprinted on the forefoot and tassels on the heel. Take a closer look at each the three “Stir Fry” Air Jordan 1s in the IG posts embedded below.

Quavo Has Officially Produced His First Horror Film

Money moves come in all shapes and sizes, and Quavo recently came through with an unexpected one. Today, the Migos rapper took to Twitter to unveil his latest endeavor, serving as the producer an upcoming horror flick called The Resort. Though ultimately revealing very little about the project itself, other than its existence, it seems as if Huncho is excited about his involvement all the same. “Wow Jus WATCH MY FIRST HORROR FILM I PRODUCED,” he wrote, before teasing the movie would be “coming soon.”

At this rate, all we can do is really speculate. For one, is The Resort set to be a big-budget endeavor, or a short-film? And who is William Meldman, the man Quavo is thanking in the announcement? Not to mention, since when is Quavo a horror movie buff? Perhaps these questions and more will soon be answered, though given the ambiguous announcement, all bets remain f for the time being.

Either way, congratulations to Quavo for securing the bag, as well as contributing further to the glorious horror cinematic canon.

Offset Reflects On His Rags To Riches Story: "Nobody Knows Your Destiny"

This year has been a prosperous one for Offset, who kicked things f with the release his underrated Father Of 4 album. Perhaps as the result  an overwhelming 2018 Migos overdose, Offset’s debut album seemed to fly under the radar, being received with mixed reviews and lukewarm audience response. Still, time has been kind to the project, which finds Offset at his most lyrically focused and mature as we’ve ever seen him. Clearly, people are still showing love to the Migos lyricist, who has long cemented himself among the game’s most consistent flexers.

Today, Offset took a moment to slide through with the rare inspirational flex. Showing f his brand new Ferrari, the spoils a Grammy-nomination well earned, Offset reflected on his own “rags to riches” story, channeling Shia Laboef with some serious “don’t let your dreams be dreams” type energy. “MY JUDGE WOULD HAVE NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD BECOME THE MAN I AM!!!” writes Offset, sitting atop his latest whip. “Long story short nobody knows your destiny but you!!!”

Congratulations to Offset for taking control his life in a major way, and may those feeling down find inspiration in the truth his words. Essentially, do what you want to do and be the change you want to see. Maybe you’ll find yourself sitting atop your own luxury car one day.

Migos Win 'Walk It Talk It' Copyright Infringement Case

The hip-hop group Migos has a copyright suit filed by an artist from North Carolina who claimed that their song “Walk It Talk it” infringed on his own.

In October of 2018, rapper M.O.S. — whose real name is Leander Pickett — insisted that the hit single from Migos infringed on a 2008 song that he released called “Walk It Like I Talk It.”

But U.S. District Court Judge Analisa Torre disagreed. She indicated that the only similarity between the two songs was the lyric “walk it like I talk it,” which she says is a “short and commonplace phrase” and hence not protectable by copyright law. The judge further indicated that the phrase had been used in a number of other songs prior to the one by M.O.S., such as:

  • “March ‘n’ Step” by Paul Wall
  • “3 A.M.” by Young Jeezy
  • “Be Easy” by Wiz Khalifa

Another reason the judge gave for dismissing the suit was that M.O.S. had not registered the copyright of his song before initiating the suit, which would have been necessary for the complaint to move forward.

Dana Whitfield, who is a lawyer for M.O.S., told Billboard that he and other members of the rapper’s legal team are “exploring options for an appeal” of the judge’s decision.

The lawsuit named more than just Migos, which includes Quavo (Quavious Marshall), Offset (Kiari Cephus) and Takeoff (Kirsnick Ball). It also named Quality Control Music, Capitol Records and Migos Touring Inc. as well as the producers of “Walk It Talk It”: OG Parker (Joshua Parker) and Deko (Grant Decouto).

Migos was founded in Lawrenceville, Georgia back in 2008. Their debut album Yung Rich Nation came out in 2015, and their follow-up albums Culture and Culture II both reached No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart in 2017 and 2018.

“Walk It Talk It,” which included vocals from Drake, reached No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2018.

The Christian Grammy Awards Sued by the Actual Grammy Awards

On October 31, the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences a lawsuit in a California federal court against an event billing itself as the “Christian Grammy Awards.”

According to the suit, the Christian Grammy Awards have been extensively promoting themselves online and infringing on the Grammy trademark. The academy is further accusing the event of prominently using the word “GRAMMY” in its marketing efforts, which they believe constitutes an attempt on the event’s part to affiliate themselves with the academy.

Interestingly, also according to the suit, the organizers of the Christian Grammy Awards are even trying to trademark the term “Christian Grammy Awards.” Last month, they reportedly filed an application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for the purposes of “promoting artistic progress and achievement in the field of recording artist and or musicians in the Christian faith.”

The academy further accuses the event of using a logo that is very close to that of the Grammy Awards. This includes using the same exact platform while replacing the Grammy Awards’ gramophone horn on top of it with a treble clef symbol. The academy insists that this “serves no purpose in the design except to call to mind the GRAMMY brand.”

Before filing the suit, the academy says that it tried to contact the organizers of the event numerous times to get them to cease their infringement but that they received no response.

The lawsuit is seeking treble and punitive damages against the organizers of the event, and the academy is further asking the court to permanently prevent them from infringing on the academy’s trademarks.

In addition to the Christian Grammy Awards, which is a California corporation, the suit names Amigos Unidos Transformando Vidas Inc., which is allegedly planning the event, and Karina Castro Garcia, who has been listed as the CEO of Amigos Unidos Transformando Vidas Inc.

So far, none of the defendants have responded to the lawsuit.

Offset Announces Mysterious Release Date On Instagram

What on earth is Offset planning for us? At the top this year, the Migos star made his ficial solo debut by dropping Father Of 4, a body work that dove deep into the soul and psyche the Atlanta rapper. Since then, the recording artist has been relatively quiet on the music front, appearing here and there for features and seemingly working with the rest his team on the next Migos album. Taking to Instagram on Wednesday this week, Offset told the world that he would be coming through with a major announcement soon. A video upload shows him confidently rubbing his hands together while wearing an American flag hooded sweatshirt. A date then flashes before our very eyes, signalling the fact that something will be arriving on October 27, 2019. What could he have in store for us, though? If it were a Friday, we could confidently say that a new single or project would be surprising us on streaming services but since the twenty-seventh is a Sunday this month, your guess is as good as mine.

Offset will clear up the confusion later today. What do you think he’s hitting us with?

Justin Bieber Paints Offset A Dope New Art Piece

Who knew Justin Bieber had artistic skills like this? Sure, we’re all aware that the young man can perform and write music with the best them. Ever since he was a kid, he’s been praised as one the strongest modern-day pop stars. Breaking records and selling out arenas comes naturally for the Biebs and, surprisingly enough, it turns out that he’s quite a talented visual artist too.

Even if you’re multi-talented, it’s ten a good idea to hone in on one area your expertise so that you can perfect that, mastering your craft before moving onto new avenues. Look at Kanye West for example. The Chicago legend started f as a music producer before diving into the world rap. Once he got settled in, he took fashion design seriously. While Biebervelli isn’t necessarily teasing a full-time move into the world visual art, he is showing the world how multi-faceted his creativity is.

According to the newly-married superstar, Migos rapper Offset asked him to create a piece art for his fice and Justin came through. Flexing the finishing touches his artwork, many Biebs’ peers are going crazy for the piece. It makes sense why everyone is so impressed too. The work is actually solid.

What do you think it? Would you cop some Bieber artwork for your crib?

Quavo Pleas With Falcons To Make Him Their Starting QB: Watch

Being a fan the Atlanta Falcons hasn’t been fruitful this season as they are 1-5 through the first six games. Quarterback Matt Ryant hasn’t been his MVP-self and fans are starting to get fed up with the team’s performance on the field. Considering who they have on the roster, you would think the team could pull f some much more inspiring results. One the fans who is getting frustrated with the team is none other than Quavo Migos.

Quavo has always proven himself to be a huge Falcons fan and during an interview with TMZ, he let his feelings be known. Essentially, Quavo is putting much the blame on Ryan and believes that he himself should get a chance to start at QB for the Falcons. If you’re a Quavo fan, then you know he was a pretty good quarterback in high school.

“Matt Ryan is making me mad right now,” Quavo said. “If the Falcons start me, I’ll play and I’ll throw to Julio Jones every play.”

Quavo also spoke on his good friend Jalen Ramsey who was recently traded to the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams and Falcons play each other this weekend and Quavo is adamant that despite his talent, he’ll get out-run by the likes Jones.

If you’re a Falcons fan, you have to figure Quavo couldn’t be any worse than what’s happening now.

Rolling Loud Hong Kong Canceled Because a Lot Could Possibly Go Wrong

The Rolling Loud Hong Kong festival, which was to feature musical artists such as Wiz Khalifa and Migos on October 19-20, has been canceled because of safety concerns relating to the anti-government protests that have been rocking the city.

The festival, which was backed by Live Nation, announced the cancelation in a Facebook post.  In it, the festival expressed regret over the cancellation but added that — after discussing the situation with security experts — it would not be possible to hold the festival “without endangering the safety and well-being of our fans, artists and staff.”

The Rolling Loud Hong Kong site is still live, but ticketing has been disabled.

This doesn’t necessarily mean that the festival will never have a Hong Kong edition, however.  The organizers indicated that they hope to one day “celebrate the city’s rich culture and buzzing hip-hop scene.”

Those who purchased tickets directly from the festival’s ticketing platform will automatically receive a refund within the next 45 business days.

Back in the U.S., the New York edition of Rolling Loud, which took place this past weekend, also faced serious security concerns.  In response to issues posed by a number of performing rappers, the New York Police Department forced the festival to remove a number of acts from the festival’s lineup.

Of course, rap festivals aren’t yoga retreats, and mayhem is a looming risk.  Coupled with the chaos of Hong Kong, and it’s hard to imagine Live Nation not cancelling the festival.

Hong Kong was a British colony for many years until control over it reverted back to China in 1997.

Since then, the people living in the city have generally enjoyed more freedom than those who live in the communist-controlled mainland. But in recent years the Chinese government has been exerting more and more control over Hong Kong, which culminated in an extradition bill that many thought would lead to unfair trials in the mainland.

While the bill was ultimately withdrawn, it spawned a movement, especially among young people in Hong Kong, who are calling for the city to become a true democracy.  Initially, the rallies were peaceful, but protestors have been steadily clashing with police and sparking a wave of violence.  This has led the Chinese government to threaten a harsh response to further unrest, with the music industry and its performers already getting sucked into the maelstrom

That includes Zedd, who is now banned from performing in China after .

"Rolling Loud" Hong Kong Cancelled Over Security Reasons Amid Protests

Rolling Loud is currently the biggest hip-hop festival in the world. After launching in Miami, it’s expanded to New York, California, and now, it’s going global with dates in Europe and Asia. Now, China’s hip-hop scene has been blowing up in the past few years, especially with acts like Higher Brothers. So, Rolling Loud was supposed to head to Hong Kong later this week — Oct. 19th and 20th — but that doesn’t seem to be happening.

Due to increasing security concerns, Rolling Loud has canceled they’re festival in Hong Kong in wake the protests. “After consulting with security experts, it has been determined that it is not possible to organize the upcoming Rolling Loud Hong Kong edition as we had hoped without endangering the safety and well-being our fans, artists, and staff,” a statement posted to Rolling Loud’s Facebook page read. “While we regret having to cancel the festival, this is not a decision that has been taken lightly and we look forward to bringing the Rolling Loud festival experience to Hong Kong in the future to celebrate the city’s rich culture and buzzing hip-hop music scene.”

The protests in Hong Kong between the government and young pro-democracy advocates have escalated to violent levels in recent times. Police have responded with live rounds, tear gas, rubber bullets and more.

Tyga Signs Multi-Million Dollar Deal With Columbia Records

New York, NY – Tyga has found a new home for his music.

According to a press release, the Grammy Award-nominated rapper has secured a multi-million dollar deal with Columbia Records and officially joined the label’s extensive roster. He’s expected to release fresh material in the very near future.

In a recent interview with Variety, Tyga explained his intentions with the longstanding imprint.

“They definitely understand the global brand,” he explained. “I have a lot of fans worldwide — in places I’ve never been like South America, and in places I have been like Asia and Europe. They can help bring that to a larger scale. Doing it independently, you don’t really have those teams to help worldwide.

“Sony, if you look at the history from what they’ve done from Pharrell to Beyoncé to Adele — then you look at Lil Nas X, one of their new artists that’s blown up this year — they’ve done a lot for artists globally, for their brand.”

Tyga Signs Multi-Million Dollar Deal With Columbia Records

Tyga’s career reached epic heights after releasing his major label debut, Careless World: Rise of the Last King, in 2011. The 21-track album contained the quadruple-platinum single “Rack City” and triple-platinum “Faded” featuring Lil Wayne, among others.

Last year, he unleashed his most successful single to date, “Taste” featuring Migos rapper Offset. It not only went six-times platinum, peaking at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100, but it also generated over 1 billion cumulative streams.

The 29-year-old’s most recent album, Legendary, dropped in June.
