G-Eazy aka Young Gerald aka Gerald Ri has been having a bountiful run. Last December, the rapper dropped f his F. Scott Fitzgerald inspired album The Beautiful & Damned, which borrows a title from one America’s classic novels. With stacked features from A$AP Rocky, Cardi B, Kehlani, Halsey, and more, Gerald’s project has helped establish him as one hip-hop’s more commercially ble, radio friendly artist. In fact, it’s not uncommon for “Him And I” to play upward seventeen times a day on any given pop channel. And that’s not even counting the infectious sexually charged banger “No Limit.”
Suffice it to say, a plaque seemed inevitable for the Oakland rapper. Evidently, the album recently hit a pivotal milestone; as April 4th, 2018, The Beautiful & Damned is ficially a gold record. It’s a good look for G-Eazy, who will no doubt continue to rise in both status and sales. It’s always interesting when an artist goes platinum in this new era, as the system is so drastically different; Cardi B’s Invasion Of Privacy technically went gold in a day, f the strength previously released singles alone.
As for the numbers, The Beautiful & Damned managed to sell a respectable 122,000 album-equivalent units in its first week, peaking at number three on the Billboard charts. As now, it seems as if Platinum will be in reach for Young Gerald, provided he continues to release commercially ble singles. Congrats are in order.
Birdman, like a proud father figure, reflected fondly over the achievements his greatest pupil. He posted on Instagram displaying the shiny Billboard plaque given to Nicki Minaj to commemorate her topping the All-Time Top 100 for Woman Artists. One year to the day, Nicki passed Aretha Franklin, who had held the distinction for 40 g**d*** years. One can’t help but notice the minor concession being made.
“Frauds,” “Regret,” and “Changed” all burst into the Top 100 at the same time. Here is an updated look at this historical document Billboard. The hit count is in parentheses.
(76) Nicki Minaj
(73) Aretha Franklin
(70) Taylor Swift
(56) Dionne Warwick
(53) Connie Francis
(48) Mariah Carey
(48) Brenda Lee
(43) Miley Cyrus
(41) Barbra Streisand
(40) Mary J. Blige
(40) Janet Jackson
(40) Diana Ross
That’s Godlike company for the most part. Birdman seems to be taking credit where it is due. With respect to her dire transformation as an emcee, the hunger in her voice is literally traced back to her humble beginnings and is only emboldened by the friendly competition at Cash Money. Here’s to more success along the way.
Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow” put a lot pressure on her. The song’s rise in popularity happened relatively abruptly and many wondered if she’ll be able to do it again. Mind you, “Bodak Yellow” is a rare occasion an artist’s first major single shooting up to the top the Billboard charts and going multi-platinum. She followed up the single with “Bartier Cardi” in December. The song wasn’t nearly as popular as “Bodak” but it was still a strong effort by her. Two months later and the song is ficially certified gold by RIAA standards.

Cardi B hit her Instagram earlier today to reveal that “Bartier Cardi” featuring 21 Savage has ficially gone gold. She thanked her fans and her followers for helping move 500K equivalent movements and promised a music video is coming soon.
“Thank you everybody ❤️❤️ Music Video coming soon..You know you wanna party with Cardi,” she wrote.
While “Bodak” is currently four times platinum, it took roughly the same amount time for that song to hit gold status. Both songs took a little over two months to move the .5M units. “Bodak” then took another three months after going gold to hit Platinum. The amount plays it’ll receive will likely boost with the release the music video.
