French Montana Hospitalized Over Cardiac Issues

French Montana was rushed to the hospital over cardiovascular issues.

According to TMZ, the 35-year-old rapper was transported ambulance from his home to a Los Angeles hospital on Thursday around 1:30 p.m. Montana, whose real name is Karim Kharbouch, was reportedly experiencing intense nausea, stomach pain, and an elevated heart rate.

Earlier in the day, L.A. County Sheriff’s deputies were called to his Calabasas home for a possible robbery that turned out to be a false alarm. The responding deputies determined French was acting abnormal and seemed “out of it.”

He was taken to a San Fernando Valley hospital and is awake and alert. He underwent treatment that includes IV fluids and was expected to be released late Thursday.

It’s unclear what triggered the hospitalization, but French has been overseas in the Middle East and Europe over the last couple weeks. Those close to him suspect he could have been exposed to contaminated food during his travels.

French has also been busy working on his third studio album Montana, which has spawned the Cardi B and Post Malone-assisted “Writing on the Wall” and “Twisted” featuring Juicy J, Logic, and A$AP Rocky.

For Sale: 10% of Universal Music Group. Price: $3.3 Billion O.B.O.

Universal Music Group is having a very good year, and it might just get better.

For those warning of an industry slowdown, Universal Music Group would beg to differ.   The mega-label just released its year-to-date earnings for the first 9 months of 2019, and the numbers are indeed impressive. The label group earned more than 5 billion euros ($5.6 billion), which represents a 17.5% increase over the same period in 2018.

Now, UMG is striking the iron while it’s hot by closing one equity deal, and opening the door to others.

Driving the sharp increase in earnings was streaming and subscription revenue, which rose by more than 23%. Physical unit sales were also strong, rising nearly 15%. Both revenue streams more than offset the decline in download revenue, which fell by more than 20%.

Many of the company’s artists, which include Taylor Swift, Post Malone, Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, and King & Prince, have had big years. Swift, in particular, has done well with her album Lover, which has sold more than one million copies. Post Malone’s Hollywood’s Bleeding has done well, too. In one week alone, it received over 365 million streams.

Another factor driving Universal’s revenue surge has been merchandising and other revenue.  Those ancillary reserves increased by more than 82% over the same period last year.  This was tied to touring revenue and rapid growth in direct-to-consumer sales as well as retail sales.

In August, Vivendi — which is the parent of Universal Music Group — announced that it was negotiating with Chinese digital music conglomerate Tencent to sell a 10% share of Universal for 3 billion euros ($3.3 billion), with a one-year option to buy another 10% of the company for the same price.

Vivendi now says that the “due diligence process and the finalization of the legal documentation” for this should be completed soon.

Vivendi is also indicating that it might sell additional minority interests in the company to other parties. While they did not indicate who these other parties are, they did say that these entities were interested in buying interests “at a similar price level” as what Tencent is going to pay.

DaBaby’s "Intro" Debuts In Top 10 Of Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart

Just ahead a potential No.1 debut atop the Billboard 200 chart with KIRK, DaBaby‘s “Intro” has cracked the top 10 the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, with the track debuting at No. 10 in its first week.

It marks his highest-ranking debut as a lead act. He’s previously visited such ranks as a supporting act, however, when he hopped on Post Malone‘s “Enemies.” Overall though, his “Suge” track still marks his highest track ever on the chart when it peaked at No. 3 in July.

As for the numbers boosting the debut “Intro,” the track earned 26.3 million U.S. streams, also landing it a No. 6 slot on the R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs chart. In addition, it earned 3,000 downloads in its opening week, placing it at No. 16 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales chart.

Elsewhere, “Intro” debuts at No. 8 on the Hot Rap Songs chart and at No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, marking the highest debut the week on either chart.  It isn’t the only title that DaBaby holds onto either as he currently boasts the most appearances on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart the week with a total seven as listed below:

No. 10, “Intro”
No. 12, “Baby,” with Lil Baby

Post Malone "Hollywood’s Bleeding" Spends 2nd Week In A Row Atop Billboard 200

Post Malone continues to prove that he’s a commercial giant for a second week in a row. According to Billboard, the rapper’s latest opus, Hollywood’s Bleeding secured the top spot on the Billboard 200 for a second week in a row. Although his sales dropped by 59% from the previous week, he still moved 198,000 equivalent album units this week. Considering he was one the highest streaming artists in 2018, it’s not shocking that he’s been #1 for two weeks in a row.

Despite the commercial success, Post Malone admitted in an interview with Zane Lowe that he wasn’t striving to make a radio-friendly record with Hollywood’s Bleeding. After establishing himself as a radio juggernaut with beerbongs & bentleys, he wanted to make an album that was true to himself.

“I wanted to be super organic, I wanted to be the way I wanted to be,” he explained. “Not to separate my fans from me or alienate my fans but at the same time to make something that I think is bitchin’, and that I think other people will think is bitchin’. I’m not trying to make huge smashes. I want to make songs that tell stories that are genuine to me, which I think is really awesome.”

Interestingly enough, the rapper also revealed that the majority the album was created in a matter days.

Lil Wayne Cancels Life Is Beautiful Festival at Last Minute

Lil Wayne was a no show at the Life Is Beautiful festival.

The Young Money boss was scheduled to take the stage at the 7th annual festival in downtown Las Vegas on Saturday night, but 10 minutes into his set, festival organizers announced that he would not be appearing.

The crowd of thousands had gathered for his 9:20 p.m. performance. His “Young Mula, baby!” intro played shortly before a message appeared on screen: “Unfortunately, Lil Wayne will not be able to perform tonight. Sorry for any inconvenience.”

Concertgoers were seen piling out of the venue. Upset fans took to Twitter to express their disappointment, while others demanded refunds.

“Unbelievable, Lil Wayne cancels last minute at Life is Beautiful. Had a huge crowd waiting for his performance too,” tweeted one fan, while another expressed concern for Wayne’s wellbeing: “I hope Lil Wayne is okay. He been pulling out of a lot of show dates.”

This is just the latest in a series of cancelations for Weezy. He bailed on his St. Louis show with Blink-182 earlier this month, claiming he was kicked out of his hotel after cops showed up. But the police say Wayne and his crew left voluntarily after a verbal dispute with the hotel staff.

While Tunechi was MIA, the three-day Life Is Beautiful festival featured a star-studded lineup including Chance The Rapper, Post Malone, Billie Eilish, Janelle Monáe, Gunna, and Rae Sremmurd.

The duo that is EarthGang might’ve been making a name for themselves on the underground market for over a decade, but the breakout success 2015’s Strays with Rabies brought them the attention J. Last week, after months anticipation, the duo released their debut album under Dreamville called Mirrorland, and we now have the first week sales numbers.

According to HitsDoubleDaily, Mirrorland moved 11,856 units in its first week, 2,090 which were pure album sales and 9,607 were streaming equivalent albums. While many people might brush f 11K as a bad week, one must remember these guys don’t have any radio support or huge singles and features.

For what its worth, Post Malone ended up landing the #1 album this week, selling 492K units his new album Hollywood’s Bleeding.

Post Malone & Young Thug Might Have A Massive Hit On Deck

Post Malone‘s Beerbongs & Bentleys came and went, bringing forth no shortage hit singles, from “Rockstar” to “Better Now.” And while he took a little bit well deserved time f, it would appear that Posty is gearing up for another proverbial keg-stand. As tomorrow, he’ll be delivering a new single with none other than Young Thug, known by many as “Jeffery.” And while Thugger has briefly enjoyed stints on the charts, largely in part to Camila Cabello’s “Havana” and his own “The London,” teaming up with a bonafide hitmaker like Post might be exactly what the doctor ordered.

Today, the man that also goes by “SEX” took a moment to tease the new single “Goodbyes,” sharing a clip from the upcoming video. The visuals look to go heavy on the “Greaser” motif, and from the look it, Thug is doing his part in laying down the hook. As now, it’s still too early to tell whether Jeff will be limited to the chorus, or play a greater role in the process. Either way, it looks to be another surefire hit for Posty, while ushering in the eclectic talents Young Thug to an audience that may otherwise prove unfamiliar.

Are you looking forward to tomorrow? It’s shaping up to be one hell a day.

Report Suggests Live Nation Is Now the Sole Owner of Bonnaroo

According to a new report, Live Nation plans on exercising a buyout clause to purchase the rest of Bonnaroo. Live Nation bought a controlling interest in the festival back in 2015.

Billboard reports that the transaction will take place before next year’s festival.

Bonnaroo 2019 was the last year Superfly Entertainment produced the festival.  Now, a limited role for Superfly going forward is currently being discussed.

AC Entertainment and C3 Presents will produce future Bonnaroo events. Live Nation purchased C3 Presents back in 2014.

As part of the original 2015 agreement, Superfly and Ashley Capps Entertainment were retained as operators. Organizers purchased the Great Park Stage site — also known as the Farm — in 2007. Bonnaroo is an annual gathering for jam bands but has expanded its lineup for multiple genres.

Live Nation booked U2 for the festival in 2016 as the only festival stop for the Joshua Tree tour.  This year’s festival was headlined by Phish, Childish Gambino, Post Malone, Odesza, the Lumineers and more.

Bonnaroo has had as many as 80,000 daily attendees but usually averages around 60,000.

Superfly was hired to produce the event at Watkins Glen, but the company pulled out over a disagreement with the organizers.  Woodstock 50 has been left without a producer or the iconic Watkins Glen location after the festival failed to meet milestone goals.

Superfly co-founder Rick Farman will also be departing and won’t have a role in organizing future Bonnaroo events going forward.

Just recently, four paramedics working the 2018 Bonnaroo festival were . At least 37 attendees were hospitalized with links to CO poisoning from the festival.

On the somewhat-less-toxic front: the festival also experimented with tackling body odor by for those with severe BO.

Post Malone’s "Congratulations" Hits Coveted Diamond Status

In case you haven’t noticed, Post Malone‘s commercial prowess has reached Juggernaut levels. With damn near everything he drops finding some degree chart success, it’s no wonder he’s been one the top-selling artists the past few years. In that sense, it was only a matter time before he joined the elusive Diamond club, a place enjoyed by a select few within the hip-hop community; while Post’s status there is debatable to some, “Congratulations” arguably skews closer to hip-hop in aesthetic than it does to comparable genres. Now, his manager Dre London has chimed in with some reflection on the long road to the top.

“Only 30+ songs in history have ever gone Diamond,” he pens, IG. “Now an idea that came f my crazy laugh/word is 1 them! I remember the uphill battle trying to push this song in beginning!! The results is what matters it’s what’s cared about!! I remember paying for video at beginning the year out my own pocket not waiting for label budget knowing timing was very important for this song! & guess what ? now they ALL say congrat-u-fuckinlations!”

Here’s a rather appropriate “congratulations” to Posty and Dre, who can be seen enjoying his plaque all plaques Instagram below. Look for more to come from the beloved sensation, who has been keeping it relatively low key since dropping f “Wow.” Are you looking forward to seeing his next move?
