Will Smith Drops Off "Brand New Funk" Performance On "Sway’s Universe"

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence have embarked on their Bad Boys For Life press run, meaning that we’ll have several hilarious interviews from the duo over the next week. Smith and Lawrence stopped by Sway’s Universe to promote the new flick, but the host switched things up on The Fresh Prince. Smith was expecting to talk Bad Boys For Life, but Sway slyly brought up his favorite song that Will ever made, “Brand New Funk.”  The 1988 single was a collaboration with DJ Jazzy Jeff and was featured on the multi-platinum album He’s The DJ, I’m The Rapper.

First, Sway starts rapping the single himself before Smith hops in and finishes the lyrics. Then, during the commercial break, Smith ends up lip-synching along to the first verse as the track plays in the background. You can see his energy going up as he continues, and it transforms into Smith rapping the entire second verse in his full Fresh Prince persona. Smith looks like he’s channeling the energy his teenage self as he’s really enjoying the moment. Hopefully, the good moments last for him. Bad Boys For Life is set to hit theaters on January 17. Are you excited about the threequel?

Tyler, The Creator Left Dumbfounded By Fan’s Twitter Question

Tyler, the Creator has had many shifts in his sound over the years. Perhaps the biggest shift was in 2019 when he dropped Igor. The album was a perfect mix R&B and hip-hop, packaged in a concept album that many felt was the best the year. This particular body work was much different than what fans were used to which created a tad bit division within his fanbase. Despite the quality the record, some fans were left wanting more rap verses.

The EARFQUAKE artist was active on Twitter today and even engaged with many his fans. At one point, a curious fan asked Tyler when he was going to start rapping again. Tyler didn’t take too kindly to this line questioning and reminded the fan everything he’s done recently.

Tyler’s fans immediately hopped into the other fan’s Twitter comments and hit him with some quick Ls to remind him that his question was unnecessary. Of course, Tyler’s diehards are always going to take his side so this shouldn’t be all that surprising. Overall, the artist makes a good point as he has been pretty consistent with his verses, even if it doesn’t always seem that way.

What do you think Tyler’s response? Let us know in the comments below.

Sonny Digital On The Difference Between Rappers And Producers In The Game

Sonny Digital had a response to DJ Akademiks’ Twitter question that is so on point about the industry. Akademiks asked his followers to “name 3 producers who fell f in 2019” which is a fair question. Except, Sonny took issue even with the question itself given how listeners interact with producers versus rappers. Sonny Digital’s response was, “this is dumb Akademiks. Unless people hear the tags they usually don’t know who produced what.” Which, is a completely justified thing to say about fans in general.

Sonny posted the Twitter dialogue to his Instagram with a caption that reads, “I don’t understand how a producer can fall f. We already get the shorter side the stick entering the game! Producers don’t fall f they just build up. Producing has no age limit unlike rapping. You can catch your biggest song late In life.” Yet another completely legit point.

While rappers have to be center stage, producers are ten in the background getting less the accolades or spotlight. Some people pay attention to producers more than others, but as far as the majority listeners go, most the downloading is based f the rapper’s name on the track, not the producer’s. Sonny’s remarks are telling about the industry and even give some deep insight into the game.

T-Pain Cancels Tour Over Low Ticket Sales

The show won’t go on for T-Pain.

The singer has canceled his upcoming tour. But instead of lying to his fans about the reason behind the cancelation, T-Pain decided to come clean and reveal that it was due to low ticket sales.

In a video posted Monday, he explained that his upcoming “1UP DLC Tour” didn’t sell as well as he expected. He admitted that “some corners got cut, production went missing,” and he wasn’t as involved because the last tour was a success.

“I’m gonna take it upon myself to cancel the ‘1UP DLC Tour’ because it just would’ve been a bad look for me and it wouldn’t have been entertaining for y’all,” he explained. “I’d rather just leave it for a later time.”

Despite his team telling him otherwise, he disclosed the real reason behind the cancelation. “I was advised to lie about this and say that I needed some time, or I needed some alone time or me time, some shit like that,” he said. “We fucked up. I’ma keep it real with y’all. Most artists lie. Whenever concerts get canceled or tours get canceled, it’s for low ticket sales. It ain’t really about whatever the fuck reason they say.”

The 12-city tour was set to kick off Nov. 1 in Detroit and travel across the country throughout the month, with stops in Philadelphia, Houston, and Seattle, before wrapping Nov. 23 in San Francisco.

T-Pain released his album 1UP in February and launched the first leg of his “1UP Tour,” which ran from March through April.

6ix9ine’s Family Scared for Their Lives, Won’t Appear in Court

6ix9ine will head to trial next week in his federal racketeering case, but his family won’t be in the courtroom.

The rapper’s immediate family members have decided that it’s too risky for them to show their faces because Tekashi will be snitching on the Nine Trey Gangsters Bloods as part of his plea deal and they’re scared of the potential repercussions.

According to TMZ, his family fears that they will be harassed or followed back to their homes, or worst case scenario, attacked by Tekashi’s former crew members.

6ix9ine has already beefed up security to protect his family. The ramifications for testifying could be serious. Sources tell TMZ that Tekashi is “crapping his pants over testifying” and fears for his own life as well as the safety of his mother and brother.

According to court documents, 6ix9ine will reportedly name names when he takes the stand, connecting people to certain incriminating messages and implicating himself and other Nine Trey Bloods in a plot to take down rival rapper Casanova. He will also supposedly reveal how he was bankrolling his fellow gang members.

Just last week, Tekashi’s former manager and high-ranking member of the Nine Trey Bloods, Kifano “Shotti” Jordan, was sentenced to 15 years in prison in connection with a number of crimes committed alongside 6ix9ine and other members of the Nine Trey Bloods.
