We Need The TDE Vs Dreamville Competition In 2019

Hip-hop’s tradition has historically been predicated on 4 key components: MC’ing, DJ’ing, Beatboxing and Graffiti Writing. With the latter two extra by-products the renegade motion that originated within the minds the Bronx’s expressive youths quite than being intently aligned with its present guise, it begs the query as as to if there are persisting attributes which might be extra befitting the worldwide phenomenon that it has since turn out to be. First delivered to the fore by the warring factions Boogie Down Productions and The Juice Crew as they sought to claim their respective borough’s pre-eminence over the rap recreation, one defining attribute life on the creative frontlines has been the irrepressible urge to check your prowess in opposition to your fellow inventive minds. Whether it manifests in shows wordplay, a perceived slight or trespass on a fellow MC’s skillset, or within the morbid form violence, the will to check your mettle in opposition to these perched on the style’s highest totem is dyed within the wool hip-hop like little else.

A scholar the artform’s doctrines in each method, the observe pitting the deserves your materials in opposition to your contemporaries has been tantalizingly reignited by Atlanta’s J.I.D. Scarcely various days after he fered a late contender for album the yr with earth-rattling sophomore mission Dicaprio 2, the J. Cole protégé didn’t mince his phrases on his aspirations for the Dreamville collective within the years to come back. Boasting artists similar to Bas, EarthGang, Ari Lennox and Lute amongst others, an interview with Complex noticed the “East Atlanta Playboy” throw the gauntlet all the way down to their Los Angeles based mostly counterparts in Top Dawg Entertainment: “We competing with TDE. That’s what must be identified. Dreamville, we gotta step this shit the fu*okay up. Cause them n***as is fireplace! I do not even know any entities that I fu*okay with, however I fu*okay with TDE.” Derived from admiration quite than animosity, this call-to-arms hasn’t gone unnoticed by the label that comes full with one the best rosters ever to assemble beneath one incorrigibly creative banner.

J.I.D – by HNHH

A scorching prospect in his personal proper with an undeterred self-belief akin to J.I.D’s, TDE signee Reason responded to his light-hearted provocation after the 2 met at Rolling Loud. Comically captioned as “bumped into this random man at @RollingLoud he stated he was half some dream group or one thing idk. Really cool man tho,” the picture the 2 conversing intently despatched a transparent message that the respect he’d proven to the non secular dwelling Kendrick, Schoolboy Q, Jay Rock and extra was reciprocated, however that his problem had been duly famous.

At a time the place many hip-hop heads have been left disenchanted by uniformed passibility appearing because the low barometer for important or business success, the information that two factions revered for thought-provoking output gained’t be banding collectively, however will as an alternative draw the battle strains, has left many clamouring for dream hook-ups quite than hotly-contested square-fs. Despite the truth that any ardent connoisseur theartform would salivate over the announcement the long-gestating collaboration between Kendrick and Cole, to decry these two labels for respectively wanting supremacy is to negate the aggressive spirit that’s an important side hip-hop’s lifeblood. There is a false impression that beef and rivalry are indivisible from each other, however this might not be farther from the reality. Where one is shaped on real; or within the case some right now’s artists, manufactured, hostility, the opposite is extra in keeping with a sporting contest with the clear aim crowning a victor and placing as a lot a deficit between you and your opponents within the course of.

On J.I.D’s half, there was possible no apprehension in sending this jol shot throughout the bow to TDE, contemplating its de-facto chief, Kendrick Lamar, as soon as lobbed an incendiary machine into what he noticed as a wilting and detrimentally harmonious eco-system with “Control.” Alongside stealing all the headlines from a monitor that featured verses from Big Sean and the elusive Jay Electronica, this 2013 fering noticed Ok-Dot proclaim that “I’m normally homeboys with the identical n***s I’m rhyming with, however that is hip-hop and these ‘n***s’ ought to know what time it’s” earlier than offering a laundry checklist MCs that he wished to bloodbath on wax. Cole was among the many stock rappers that Kendrick needed to displace, a frontrunner that might bly protest Ok. Dot’s standing as hip-hop’s kingpin. This pleasant rivalry has merely been inherited by their respective crews.

On the topic the rosters at their disposal, there has by no means been a time the place they’ve been on such an equal footing on the subject of vitality, creative distinction and relevance as they’re at present. Bolstered by not solely Dicaprio 2, however the globe-trotting sound Bas’ breakout mission Milky Way, in addition to the clear anticipation for EarthGang, Cole’s declare that “Dreamville stacked like the soldiers” appears apt (lest we neglect, Lute, Cozz and Ari Lennox are solely warming up). Coupled with the label mastermind’s engulfing opus KOD, it could possibly be argued that Dreamville goes into 2019 a step forward their West Coast rivals. That’s to not say that TDE has laid dormant in 2018 nonetheless, fering stellar initiatives from SiR, Reason’s debut There You Have It and most notably, Jay Rock’s Redemption. Now that the seeds warfare between the 2 have been sown within the listeners’ thoughts, success upcoming initiatives from each camps might be made all of the extra pivotal resulting from its results on our inner scoreboards.

Jay Rock – by HNHH

While the standing  Kendrick’s new mission stays unclear, the discharge slates each imprints appear greater than succesful besieging the business in 2019. On Dreamville’s beginning line-up, there’s Cole’s The Fall Off, EarthGang’s full-length Mirrorland, a brand new fering from Ari Lennox, whispers a ‘conceptual mission’ between J.I.D & No ID and that’s with out even broaching whether or not the t-teased Revenge Of The Dreamers three will lastly emerge. Meanwhile in Cali, the ever-imposing Schoolboy Q, who purposefully delayed his new file after Mac Miller’s premature passing, might be returning to the fray, possible alongside the enigmatic Ab-Soul, Tennessee import Isiah Rashad and the important darling that’s SZA. With each Dreamville president Imbrahim Hamad and TDE’s patriarch Anthony ‘Top’ Tiffith’ proclaiming 2019 to be a large yr, the looming specter   competitors respiration down their necks ought to lead each artist to hone their new initiatives till they border on perfection.

Harbouring all of the makings essentially the most contentious tug–war over the market share because the days Bad Boy and Death Row, the essential distinction is that every bout might be determined by achieved music quite than bullet wounds, which makes it not a combat to be worrisome over, however one to bask within the sheer brilliance .

At time when numerous stars are criticized for complacently using waves or counting on a well-trodden sound, the problem that J.I.D issued is not going to solely push the events concerned, however encourage hip-hop at giant to succeed in a better plateau. In that sense, this declaration warfare from J.I.D shouldn’t be a trigger for alarm however a time to rejoice, in what has all of the makings a compelling and historic occasion for tradition as we all know it.

To me, that’s an vital factor.” Check out footage from the toy drive under.

Reason Spits Crazy Bars Over TDE Bangers In New Freestyle

Kicking issues f with a reimagined variation Kendrick Lamar’s personal rhyme scheme, Reason takes to “Element” with the arrogance a real wordsmith. “Street good like I am rolling with some students,” he raps, within the opening stanzas, “n***as folding, cash piling, bread older than nostalgia.” From that time on, intelligent bars and punchlines arrive on a nonstop foundation, as Reason delivers an onslaught over his labelmate’s instrumental.

“It’s getting scary, simply see what the West cravin’,” spits Reason, sliding by means of with a Wes Craven reference for the slowpokes. He would not cease there. “Words electrical I got here with an unwell movement, not sick an unwell movement, however electrical, an eel movement,” he raps, his supply on level to the fullest. It would not finish there, because the Leakers queue up Jay Rock’s “Parental Advisory” for him to physique. And relaxation assured, he does precisely that.

Peep the bars, and watch one essentially the most thrilling new lyricists at work.

Ice Cube Plays Gatekeeper To The "New West Coast Flavour"

While we have beforehand seen installments with Fat Joe and Swizz Beatz, the latest effort discover Ice Cube taking part in gatekeeper to some the west coast’s subsequent up, together with Reason, Saweetie, Lil Mosey, and course, BlueFace.

“If I may give any recommendation to up-and-coming west coast artists,” says Cube, “it is cool to rep the place you from, however do not let that change into a cage. Look to rock any crowd wherever on any stage.” Naturally, the primary to come back throughout Cube’s desk is the ever-present Blueface, the person whom Daylyt as soon as described as follows: “He file his verse Monday, they bring about the beat Friday.” Upon queuing up “Respect My Crypn,” Cube wastes little time in praising the skillset. “I like his confidence. I positively know this dude can rap,” he explains, although he does point out that such reliance on gang affiliation appears like a crutch.

“He not fbeat,” says Cube. “He not all the way in which hitting those on a regular basis, he is falling f and falling again on. It’s one these types that is an acquired style, however if you get it, it is hearth.”

Reason Provides Excellent Analysis Of Ab-Soul & ScHoolboy Q's Bars

TDE’s Reason, is, like his labelmates Soulo, ScHoolboy, Kendrick, and JayRock, a superb lyricist. As such, it is no marvel that his look on BET’s Rate The Bars is one the extra memorable installments.

The phase kicks f with a fellow west-coaster, Snoop Dogg. Reason makes positive to reward these using multi-syllabic rhyme schemes, citing Snoop Dogg’s “Gucci Flip Flops Remix” verse for example. “Pools and saunas and a few blue iguanas. That’s three syllables at one time,” he explains, although he does admit it is troublesome to completely endorse with out listening to the chosen cadence.

Upon listening to lyrics from his labelmate Ab-Soul, Reason cannot fairly keep in mind the supply the bars. “Who is that? That’s loopy. I do know precisely what that’s. That’s fireplace although!” Soon, the reply arrives, and he proceeds to reward Soulo’s lyrical prowess. “That’s Soulo! I am buggin! that is a ten, Carson in the home!” Next up is Kurupt, who guarantees to unleash utter violation upon a listener’s household tree; Reason respects the agression, although it isn’t fairly sufficient to land the coveted 5 on 5.

Upon reciting ScHoolboy Q’s insane “Blind Threats” bars, Reason instantly dubs it “fireplace.” He factors out ScHoolboy’s use juxtaposition, through which he strategically makes use of each “worst” and “finest” to convey a way duality. He additionally has variety phrases for Russ, praising his “directness,” in addition to A$AP Rocky’s slept on technical prowess. Throughout all the clip, Reason is refreshingly analytical, offering a grounded tackle the craft. For anybody within the artwork lyricism, this one is unquestionably value your whereas.

Reason "There You Have It" Review

Reason’s ficial debut as a member TDE, There You Have It, is a soulful and tight-knit introduction the Del Amo rapper to a worldwide viewers. Perhaps greatest recognized for his highly effective verse on the Kendrick Lamar curated Black Panther soundtrack, Reason has quietly been working very arduous, most lately in assist Jay Rock on the 30-city Big Redemption Tour.

Although that is his first full launch with TDE, older followers will possible acknowledge that this isn’t a brand new venture; it is really a remixed and remastered model his 2017 mixtape the identical title. In addition to some tweaked sonics and up to date cowl artwork, the brand new launch is three tracks shorter than the unique. In a current interview with Ambrosia For Heads Reason stated that the re-release was a strategic transfer by label head Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith. “The plan was to place out a brand new venture below TDE,” he explains. “But as an alternative, Top felt like he needed to indicate the world why they signed me…Top needed to maintain it very, very uncooked.”

This explains the shortage appearances by different artists on the label, however given his palpable work ethic, it’s solely a matter time earlier than we hear him collaborating with the remainder the TDE roster. On this outing, Reason is as an alternative supported by visitor appearances from Xian Bell, Space 600 and D Beezy and manufacturing from myriad beat makers, the bulk whom Reason found by means of Youtube.  Somehow, regardless of the range beat kinds and rhythmic approaches, the album maintains an unbelievable quantity cohesiveness. The manufacturing is full soul samples, making a darkish and moody environment for Reason to rhyme on. Content teeters between hopelessness and breakneck willpower; the world that Reason paints is bleak and full justifiable paranoia. “Gotta go more durable nigga I do not want new Lamborghinis or wheel stuntin’,” he raps. “All I spit is actual, the followers gon’ really feel from it/ I’ll make it, you’ll know me, you’ll like it/ So a lot, will in these raps you suppose Uncle Phil like it.”

The first portion the album is steeped in anger and aggression. From the opening lyrics the title monitor “There You Have It,” Reason examines his circumstances, whereupon he’s turning into hole and singularly centered on attaining success in his work. “It’s arduous to deal with the tragedy God has given me/ I combine revenge with apple juice and Hennessy,” he raps. “Combine that with a misplaced good friend and recollections/ And there you have got it created a lethal savage.” The starvation in his voice is clear to the purpose being caustic, as if he had been pleading with the listener to listen to his story.

The manner through which the second half the album shifts into its smoother second gear nearly seems like Reason went by means of a brand new stage progress in the course of the recording phases; it by some means feels as if the tales are extra vivid and the rapping is extra dynamic. The ache and need stay simply as evident however as an alternative, they’re relayed by means of lyrical vignettes, just like the nightclub scene described in “Taste,” or “Colored Dreams/ The Killers Pt. 2” which is formatted as a prisoner’s suicide word to his mom. Even the seemingly celebratory “Summer Up” comprises references to the worry time operating out and associates misplaced too quickly.

Although there are some exceptions, the bulk the lyrics depict in a roundabout way the stark realities and tragedies the Black American expertise and the methods through which trauma modifications folks and communities. On “The State We In,” Reason raps, “Tryin’ to remain robust, my largest worry is my future son bein’ Trayvon/ Or me Eric Garner, they homicide me, then blame him for not havin’ a father/ And now his mom caught, he go to highschool whereas she wrestle to maintain the fundin’ up/ He miss his dad, no marvel his grades fuckin’ up.” The worry demise is a powerful motivator for Reason as it might come at any time from any angle. The police, outdated associates, strangers, even his personal palms, is likely to be the devices his destruction and Reason spends a lot the work considering the methods through which demise impacts these it touches.

This album is completely satisfying, and past some occasional rigidity in his voice, Reason sounds at residence within the sales space. More ten than not he raps with the urgency a person making an attempt to maintain his head above water and given the content material the music he creates it is smart. Not solely is his music about surviving the wrestle, but it surely’s concurrently straightforward on the ear, which isn’t all the time a straightforward feat to perform. All that being stated, it’s fascinating to notice that though it has been pruned down and spruced up, this tape is a yr outdated and isn’t essentially even reflective the music he’s making at present. With the brand new assets at his disposal and Top Dawg’s steerage, Reason is bound to be crafting a slew new music and I’m wanting ahead to listening to what his correct first album below the TDE banner will sound like.

Top Dawg Announces Release Date For Reason's TDE Debut "There You Have It"

Top Dawg Entertainment continues to construct a robust roster every year. The California label already has bonafide stars like Kendrick Lamar and SZA whereas nonetheless sustaining their status as having some the very best MC’s within the recreation. Just a few weeks a go, Reason was introduced as the most recent signee to the label. He’s launched a number of tracks since however in the present day, Top Dawg has revealed the discharge date for Reason’s debut TDE launch.

Reason’s new album, There You Have It is coming in precisely every week, Top Dawg introduced on Twitter. The label’s CEO revealed that Reason’s upcoming mission will drop on September 28th.

It appeared as if ScHoolboy Q was on monitor to launch the mission within the coming months. Unfortunately, the rapper revealed final week that he was pushing the mission again to 2019 because of the premature passing one his good pals and collaborators, Mac Miller, earlier this month.

Isaiah Rashad Claims New Kendrick Lamar Album Is "Damn Near" Finished

It feels like anything can happen. We’ve already received a surprise album from one hip-hop’s biggest superstars; is another really too much to ask for? Perhaps we have to wait and see. This weekend, Top Dawg hit the studio with Isaiah Rashad, and the pair proceeded to take their session to Instagram live. Rashad went on to tease some TDE’s upcoming repertoire, including the anticipated drop from ScHoolboy Q, a possible project from SZA, and perhaps most surprisingly, a “damn near” finished Kendrick Lamar album.

After assuring fans he is, in fact, “still doing his] thing, being lazy,” Rashad opens up about some his colleagues. “Got a little Reason, got a little SiR,” he teases. “Q finna drop, SZA hair green so you know it’s finna be fire. You never know what’s going to happen.” Case in point, Rashad reveals that Top actually played him a “whole dot album, damn near,” leading to speculation an unexpected Kendrick Lamar drop. Recall, Top Dawg previously teased four potential albums dropping in 2018.

If Rashad is indeed being “lazy,” maybe he’ll be coming in 2019 instead. That opens the door for Q, SiR, Reason, Ab-Soul, SZA, and Kendrick. Yet Ab-Soul seems to have recently started working, and it would be surprising to find SZA ready to drop after losing time due to vocal chord issues. Is it wishful thinking to imagine Kendrick wanting to stake his claim on 2018, given so many his contemporaries have dropped solid projects?

Peep the video below.

Top Dawg Is Trying To Get Us Four Albums By Year's End

As they say, the best laid plans ten run the risk coming up short. Yet that hasn’t stopped TDE CEO Top Dawg from reaching for the stars. While he’s already been enjoying a solid 2019 campaign, with the acclaimed Black Panther Soundtrack and Jay Rock’s Redemption in the mix expanding his impressive repertoire. Many could be content to put feet on desk and leave it at that. Yet Top has all intentions on putting a stamp on 2018 before year’s end; recall last year, when Kendrick’s DAMN. and SZA’s CTRL propelled the label to a dominant state. Is it possible for him to top the 2017 grind?

It would appear he’s doing his best. Taking to Twitter, Top Dawg responded a curious fan asking about the remaining calendar year. “I have 2 more for y’all now,” he admitted, “I’m trying for 4.” Naturally, speculation ensued. We’ve already seen ScHoolboy Q return from a long break, hellbent on stirring up some hype for some upcoming music. If Q is dropping, perhaps we can also expect something from Reason, who has been putting out content late. Isaiah Rashad is forever in the mix, destined to arrive at his own pace, but what the fourth? Could it be Ab-Soul, who we last heard on the excellent Do What Thou Wilt? We can only hope.

Sound f below. Which the TDE roster are you expecting by 2018? Shout out to Top Dawg for this one.

TDE Announces Reason As New Signee

Top Dawg Entertainment has a new artist: Reason. While we don’t know a whole lot about the emcee, who released his first song through the label today along with the announcement, we do know that he made an appearance on the Kendrick Lamar and Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith executive-curated Black Panther soundtrack, adding a verse to “Seasons.”

Around that time, Reason did an interview with Rolling Out in which he discussed how he landed the placement. “My team and I worked extremely hard last year, but it was actually a mix being in the right place at the right time,” he said. “Another rapper I won’t mention was supposed to have that verse. They were taking a while to get it over to Kendrick and he reached out through a mutual connection and told me to give it a try. He loved what I did so much that he ran with the verse I wrote and moved it to the end the song.”

Later in the conversation, he described his sound. “I think my music is extremely soulful. Top Dawg] used that word when I first met him and it was ironic because I’ve always marketed my music as such,” he said. “I think it speaks to you and paints pictures as you listen.” With that being said, it is no surprise that his first release for the label is titled “The Soul.”

Reason joins more recent signees to the label like Zacari, SiR, and Lance Skiiiwalker. The label also holds the talents Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock, Ab-Soul, ScHoolboy Q, SZA, and Isaiah Rashad.
