#BandTogether Musicians Reach Tentative Deal with Film and TV Studios

Musicians have reached a tentative deal with film and television studios, despite not getting their most pressing demand: residuals for streaming, which they had fought for through their #BandTogether campaign.

Negotiations between the American Federation of Musicians (AFM) and the studios lasted over two years, but while the former did receive significant improvements in their contract with the latter, their members still will not be getting residuals for TV shows and movies that are streamed online.

Studios participating in the new deal include:

  • Disney
  • CBS
  • MGM
  • Paramount
  • NBCUniversal
  • Sony
  • Warner Brothers

In their new contract, AFM musicians will from now on receive screen credits whenever they perform on scores, however productions are released, including streaming. The new contract also improves wages by 3% every year and establishes conditions for high-budget productions that are streamed.

The deal further includes a provision that increases residual payments for productions that are either rented or bought online.

Notably, the AFM also successfully resisted concessions that the studios sought from them. This included the ability to score more productions overseas without their participation.

Despite not receiving streaming residuals in this contract, the AFM insisted that they will continue the fight for them.

Ray Hair, who is the president of the AFM, said, “The campaign for fairness in our contract with the studios, particularly on the issue of compensation and residuals for content made for streaming, has energized not only our film and television musicians in Los Angeles, New York and Nashville, but musicians throughout the country.”

He went on to say that “the tentative agreement, if ratified, will be viewed as a short-term truce,” while adding, “[O]ur musicians’ concerted activity will continue as the backdrop to our ongoing efforts to obtain fair residual terms whenever we are engaged to score content made for streaming.”

This past year, the AFM launched #BandTogether, which is a grassroots campaign to raise awareness of their fight for residuals on new media productions.

Mark Ruffalo Wants The Hulk To Have A Cameo In "She-Hulk"

Mark Ruffalo is ficially the only Avenger that doesn’t get his own entertainment venture. When The Incredible Hulk  movie dropped, Edward Norton was still playing Bruce Banner. Imagine if he had stayed in the MCU? Either way, Ruffalo picked up the role for The Avengers and has played The Hulk ever since. Captain America had a trilogy, Thor has a fourth film coming out, Iron-Man had a trilogy, and now Black Widow is getting a film and Hawkeye is getting a show. That leaves Ruffalo as the odd man out. Marvel will be bringing a She-Hulk series to Disney +, and since in the comics Hulk and She-Hulk are related, it makes sense to include Mark Ruffalo on the TV show.

Talking with People, Ruffalo was asked about Marvel’s She-Hulk series. “I don’t know,” he said when asked if he would make an appearance.  “I’m supposed to go talk to Kevin Feige] to see if there’s someplace for me].” He was then asked if he would “want to” cameo in She-Hulk, or anywhere else in the MCU, and course Ruffalo said yes. “Sure. Why not?,” he responded. It appeared as if he was gingerly trying not to spoil anything. Do you want to see The Hulk in more MCU content?

"South Park" Uses Randy Savage’s Likeness To Mock Trans Athletes

Matt Stone and Trey Parker have been at the center various controversies over the years thanks to their animated TV show South Park. The show has made fun anybody and everybody over the years and they haven’t held back on the comedy. It seems like no topic is f-limits to them and in a brand new episode called “Board Girls,” the show tackles one the growing conversations in the sports community.

The transgender community has seen an increase in visibility over the years and while this is a great thing, there have certainly been those with some negative viewpoints. One the topics that people seem to be ignorant is trans women competing with other women in sports. With this latest episode, South Park fers up an exaggerated view this topic by putting it in the context a weightlifting competition.

As you can see from the clip above, one the female characters is confident about winning the competition until a person who looks like Randy Savage appears on the screen. The Macho Man lookalike claims to be a woman and immediately takes control the entire event.

For a couple years now, some women have expressed concern in something like this happening although if you’ve been paying attention, cases like this never actually happen. Regardless, South Park is a comedy show and this is what they’re supposed to do, even if their facts may just be a tad f.

8 Different Illegal Streaming Site Operators Now Face Grand Jury Charges

A federal grand jury has charged eight men behind two of the largest illegal streaming operations in the US.

Illegal streaming sites Jetflicks and iStreamitAll were two subscription-based streaming sites. Thousands of movies and TV shows were available for subscribers to watch.

Earlier this week, the DoJ disclosed that eight individuals were indicted in a grand jury trial on Tuesday. The indictment says the men were running “two of the largest unauthorized streaming services in the United States.”

The charges in the case include conspiracy, criminal copyright infringement, and money laundering, with eight different individuals charged.

The operators are accused of running an unlicensed subscription-based service including live broadcast IPTV services. The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) asked the Department of Justice to criminally prosecute these pirate streaming services.  The names of these services were handed off to DoJ officials and this case is part of those efforts.

The indictment lists the following men as defendants in the case: Kristopher Lee Dallmann, 36; Darryl Julius Polo, aka djppimp, 36; Douglas M. Courson, 59; Felipe Garcia, 37; Jared Edward Jaurequi, aka Jared Edwards, 38; Peter H. Huber, 61; Yoany Vaillant, aka Yoany Vaillant Fajardo, 38; and Luis Angel Villarino, 40.

The DoJ’s announcement says these men reproduced thousands of copyright television shows without authorization.

One of the defendants left Jetflicks to create a rival streaming service, iStreamItAll. Darryl Polo was also charged with two counts of criminal copyright infringement by distribution and four counts of money laundering.

Much of the content the services featured — over 115,849 television episodes and 10,511 movies — came from other pirate sources. The indictment cites , RARBG and Usenet, and Torrentz as sources for the pirated content.  Torrentz shut down in 2016 and was only a search engine with no direct links to infringing content.

iStreamItAll boasted that it had more content than Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, and Amazon Prime combined.

These unlicensed services often sell for accessing the illegal content. Thus they generate money from a subscription service tied to a hardware box.  The difference is the content streamed to the box is unlicensed and obtained from already illegal sources.

Ronda Rousey Nearly Severs Finger Filming TV Show: Graphic Photo

UFC Hall Famer and WWE superstar Ronda Rousey posted an update on her instagram account on Tuesday – and if you caught it without warning you may have passed out.

Rousey shocked her 12.5 million followers with an absolutely horrifying photo a finger injury she sustained while filming an episode the FOX tv show “9-1-1.” And when I say “finger injury” I really mean “her left middle finger was hanging on by a thread.”

According to Rousey, a boat door fell on her hand during the first take the day and she just went about her business because she’s one tough SOB. That is, until she looked down and recognized the severity the injury, after which she was rushed to the hospital.

She posted the following caption on instagram moments ago, along with the graphic photo that you’ll find at the bottom this post.

“So the word is out I nearly lost my finger shooting@911onfox. Freak accident, first take the day a boat door fell on my hand, I thought I just jammed my fingers so I finished the take before looking (I know it sounds crazy, but I’m used to live audiences and never showing pain unless I’m supposed to) after a break in the action I told our director the situation and was rushed ambulance to the hospital where they promptly reattached my bone and tendon with a plate and screws. I returned to filming the next day and finished my scenes before returning home to recover. Modern medicine amazes me, I already had 50% range motion back in 3 days. There’s so much more than I can write here, stayed tuned  @rondarouseydotcom for the full story. And course tune in to see how well I can act like my finger didn’t just fall f in this upcoming season @911onfox

Quentin Tarantino Speaks On MCU Referencing His Work In Their Films

Did you miss the Pulp Fiction reference in Captain America: The Winter Soldier? Samuel L. Jackson stars in both films, and he is the connection between the MCU and the Quentin Tarantino classic. How so? Well, back in Winter Soldier, Nick Fury is forced to fake his own death. When Captain America and Falcon visit his grave,  the Bible passage Ezekiel 25:17 is etched on the tombstone. The famous Bible quote goes, “The path the righteous man…” If that sounds familiar, it’s because it’s the speech Jackson’s character Jules Winnfield uses in Pulp Fiction before killing his opponents.

Winter Soldier directors Joe and Anthony Russo revealed to SlashFilm that they struggled to figure out what should be on Fury’s tombstone. Joe believes it was their visual effects supervisor Dan Deleeuw that came up with the idea. “I think it was,” Russo stated. “But again, you know, we’re always because we’re geeks and we love that kind stuff, when we make movies, we’re always trying to put it in the movies, our movies for other people, our TV shows. So it’s better to put something in there that is a wink and a smile and excites people than just something bland, you know?”

In an interview with BBC Radio 1, Quentin Tarantino comments on the universe sharing moment. “I knew it was coming because I ended up watching Sam Jackson on the Jimmy Fallon show, and Jimmy Fallon mentioned it,” Tarantino stated on the topic Fury’s tombstone. “Well, the fact that I grew up with Marvel comic books, and you know, the Marvel universe, before it was a cinematic universe. When it was just basically Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, and Roy Thomas’s web-spinning…enough said.”

Salt-N-Pepa Claim DJ Spinderella Is Just Suing Because She "Feels Left Out"

Just yesterday, we reported that DJ Spinderella was suing her groupmates nearly 35 years, on claims trademark infringement, fraud and breach contract. She claimed that Salt-N-Pepa were continuing to use her to promote their performances, despite the fact  that she only recently opened up about her “termination” from the group, and explained that she would “not be performing on the #NKOTB Mixtape Tour.” She also claimed to have not seen a dime out the $600k royalties that had reportedly received in the past decade, and not been given any compensation for her guest appearance on the VH1 TV show centered around the group’s rise to stardom , despite being promised a third the cut. Now however, Sal and Pepa have reportedly fired back, claiming that she doesn’t have her facts right, and is in fact, just suing them because her own insecurities about feeling left out from the group.

Sources connected with the group have come forward to talk to TMZ, that she has “felt like a third wheel” ever since VH1s 2007 Salt-N-Pepa show, where she was only featured as a guest. However, sources say that the contract doesn’t actually specify that Spin is entitled to any royalties (including the $125k she says she’s owed from the 1999 Best  album). They alleged that she was always paid as an independent contractor, and that the duo still made sure she always got “the finest accommodations” to go along with her paycheck. In regards to the show, sources claim that it was, in fact, the TV producers who limited her involvement, meaning it was out Salt and Pepa’s hands. They detailed that they thought Spin was just petty about the fact that talk shows regularly only request the two leading ladies for interviews. Finally, the sources explained that the Salt-N-Pepa brand is owned by Salt and Pepa, and not Spinderella, meaning that her “trademark infringement” claims hold no base, adding that the duo “haven’t used her name or likeness once since her departure from the group.” What do y’all think?

The home includes four bedroom and full bathrooms along with a powder room, two two-car garages and a separate garage which links to a bedroom guesthouse. Additionally, the house sits on a 1.5-acre lot and incurs roughly $34K in property taxes. Although the price is quite ambitious with consideration the neighborhood where similar homes are sold for much less ($1.5-$2 million), its television history makes it a rare gem. “I don’t think you can quantify the intrinsic value this home,” added Mr. Recchia, who built and owns the house. The house has also undergone a series cosmetic changes but still retains its character and charm. We wonder which Sopranos fan will grab that.

Odell Beckham Jr., Baker Mayfield Fire Back At Colin Cowherd

Fox Sports host Colin Cowherd has created a twitter feud with Baker Mayfield and Odell Beckham Jr. – and his show, “The Herd,” is surely seeing a jump in the ratings as a result.

It all started on Thursday afternoon when Cowherd shared his version the “10 Biggest Moments Odell Beckham’s Career.” The list was topped by OBJ’s epic one-handed catch against the Dallas Cowboys, but it also included lowlights such as the infamous Miami boat trip, fighting the kicking net, and the “meltdown in the tunnel.”

Says Cowherd, “When you go back, it’s one great catch, one great commercial and a lot nonsense. I mean, that’s my problem.’’

Both Beckham and Mayfield took issue with the video. The Browns QB called Cowherd a clown, adding, “Wisdom didn’t come with age for you did it?.” In defense his teammate, Mayfield tweeted, “You forget the kids and people he inspires. That goes much further than football.”

Beckham posted a slightly longer response, which included the following:

“NOWWWW UVE GONE TOOOO FAR…. bro I understand nobody listens to ur show but stop using my name to get clout bro, I let u say and do whatever u want but uve gone to far now. So heres the attention U wanted and desperately needed i see. I had respect for u after talkin on the ph.”

“But I honestly I really hate to even give u this spotlight. Just put some respect on my name as ur talkin bout me and my family to booost ur TV shows and ratings. If I was GREAT then u and others wouldn’t talk about me this much. I DONT hear much talk bout anybody else at All.”

Check out the string tweets, including Cowherd’s response to both Beckham and Mayfield, below.
